I had this same issue....You need to send it back to pioneer. They repaired mine and had to replace a few parts in the unit. Its not your gps ant for sure. They charge you a flat rate of $200 but you get a 90 day warranty.

Thanks for the reply. That was what I thought may be the prob. I took it out of the trim panel and it is still not oprning. Maybe the rails are bent?? Funny thing is that it goes back into place fine but only after a reset or shutting off the car.

Just spoke to Pioneer! You have no warranty if you buy new or refurbished avic-z1 UNLESS its an authorized dealer from Pioneers website!!

So if you buy a new Z1 from an unauthorized dealer you lose the 1 year warranty. The refurb offers a 90 day warranty. Does this mean the refurb has to be sold by an authorized dealer also for the warranty?

right. Can the screws interfere with the opening and closing?

I am wondering if anyone else has expirienced this situation... Before sending in my Z1 for service to Pioneer my screen opened and closed fine. After getting it back and installing it this time it seems like the screen will open 3/4 the way and go back up and stop right under the hard drive. Before I try to uninstall the unit as its a pain in with my car...Would the length of the screws effect the opening and closing?

Woah...I wonder if this will allow another mobile HD to connect with all my MP3's. Luckily I work for a HD manufacturer now I just need this unit to test!

I would recommend painting the speaker covers black. They look way to NEW for a car this old. Otherwise nice pics.

So Pioneer received my Z1 on Tuesthe 6th. I called on the 12th as I have not heard anything. The repair dept places me on hold for 15 minutes and states "oh we were going to call you today" For some reason I don't believe her I ask if its possible for me to pay for overnite shipping when the repair is complete? I am told no they only will ship ground. I can't believe what a pain in the a$$ this is to have a unit repaired when I am paying for the repair to begin with! Rant over!

I sent my Z1 off for repair. They show it delivered. How long did it take anyone to hear from Pioneer regarding repair authorization?

Ok pulled the radio out yesterday...Seems the secret wire that is from connector 2 to ground has broke the pin connector of the wire and this wire was laying on the top of the back of the deck. The othre end was connected to the ground so I am wondering if this created a ground loop and screwed up my gyro... From the symptoms I am getting I am thinking the gyro or something may have opened a circuit on the board possibly???

they have a 70 evaulation fee...Anyone know what a typical repair may be? I may not get the warranty repair as I dont have the receipt to prove where I bought it from.

Spoke wit pioneer today. They doubt its the antenna. I am just not "seeing" a gps signal. When I got to connection status is see the following: Speed Signal = Nok GPS Ant = Nok Install Position = Nok Power Volt = Nok Back Signal = nok (I have not connected the reverse light) I am wondering if maybe the gyro is screwed. I have completed a level 3 and attempted a level 4 whick erased the drive of my files...Although I cannot reset the 3D calibration as it is greyed out... Any suggestions?

Everything worked fine the night before. Got in the car today an GPS is aying it cant find a signal do to hardware? This mean my antenna is dead? Also its not reading any info from my speed sensor or (VSS).
