  1. from the comments at Engadget, here is one that is already on sale for $10. http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASApp/o ... geNumber=0 Seems like a good idea. I'd like to try one out once the new iPhone 3.0 firmware is out. Can you have the bluetooth handsfree function of the AVIC connected at the same time as these dongles? I'm not sure it's worth it if you'd lose that ability in order to connect to the A2DP streamer.
  2. If you link like this: [www.url.com This Title Will Appear] you'll see "This Title Will Appear" on the wiki, but the link will be to http://www.url.com alternately, you could just copy/paste the contents of the old page into a new page with the new title that you want
  3. The parking brake wire usually sends an on/off signal from the parking brake to the Head Unit. By grounding it you are telling the unit that the parking brake is always off. If you don't ground this wire you get an error saying the unit is wired incorrectly. The other pin (the one that we are using the MUTE wire to ground) is a safety bypass signal. Grounding this signal is what actualy bypasses the parking brake safety measures so you can use the unit while in motion. At least that is my understanding.
  4. I think you also have to ground the parking break wire to something, I could be wrong though
  5. I've discovered another way to get Live TV on the AVIC, and it only costs $10 IF you already have 1. An iphone with data plan, and the AV cable for your AVIC 2. A computer with a TV Tuner If you have these things, you can use a program called ORBlive to stream Live TV, as well as any movie files and music on your computer, to the iphone, and use TVOut to get the picture on the AVIC display. I set it all up last night and tried it out in the car this morning, streaming to the iphone works great but the program I was using to get the video output on the screen, screensplitr, was very slow
  6. What do you mean? Both wires should be grounded.
  7. Does the green/white wire go into the radio somewhere?
  8. I tried my 2.5" external hard drive and the USB port didn't have enough juice to power it up. Does your drive have any lights on it? If they aren't lighting up then you might have the same problem.
  9. Works fine now, maybe it was because I hadn't confirmed my email or something. Thanks.
  10. Any chance you could make it so we can upload pictures/files?
  11. ok, introducing... the F Series Wiki!!!! www.avic411.com/wiki old site: http://fseries.wikia.com/ obviously still needs a ton of work, but feel free to start editing it
  12. Hm, well I'll try attaching my gigabeat and see what happens. Maybe the AVIC doesn't like the way Rockbox handles USB.
  13. You have to boot Rockbox with the USB cable attached. That will put it into USB Mass Storage Mode (it will say so on the iPod screen), then it will show up like a USB thumb drive on the AVIC. At least that's the way it is for my Toshiba Gigabeat, I think it would be the same for the iPod.
  14. I was just looking through the FAQ's to see if there was any info about themes and I found another thread with some more themes in it http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=122072
  15. yeah it is a pain to search through this forum though, and the thread with the replacement icons isn't listed in any of the FAQ's as far as I know. It took me a few tries to find that thread even though I had read it several times before... I guess my point is you have to be patient with people, everyone starts out knowing nothing about this forum, so you can't really expect them to know that this mod exists. If you don't feel like answering their question, just pass over it and let someone else do it.
  16. Here's some more info about Zune with the F series viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23217 There's also a good review here: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23229
  17. I submitted a request to wikia to get this started. You can see my request here: http://requests.wikia.com/index.php?tit ... tion=purge
  18. I just had a thought that a wiki would be a much better way to organize the information here for the noobs (myself included). Something that walks you through all the mods that are available, and how to do them, as well as how to get started making your own. I think that this would eliminate the questions that keep being asked over and over again, and would be a heck of a lot easier than having to use the awful search on this forum to find any information. I thought I'd see how much interest there is in this.
  19. wow people are mean on this forum viewtopic.php?f=34&t=21840&hilit=icons
  20. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe you have a bad ground on the wiring harness, and a good ground on the wire that the installers put in. This would make it so that when you attached the parking brake wire (from the radio) to the installer's wire, it would grounded and the bypass would work, but when you attached the parking brake wire to the ground from your car's wiring harness, it wouldn't be grounded so the bypass wouldn't work. It could also just be a bad connection between the parking brake wire and the ground wire that's causing it. Also, just to make sure I'm under
  21. Yeah I also agree with what you say, especially the sound quality. I find myself fiddling with the EQ trying to get it to sound right constantly, but it just never seems to sound right to me. Also the sound is different for every source, I need to adjust the EQ when going between my iPod, iPhone, and FM radio. I'm going to get a sub and amp the speakers in my car though, so hopefully that will fix all my sound quality issues. Also I've given up on voice commands in general, it's slow and not accurate enough for it to be useful for me. To be perfectly honest it usually just ends up piss
  22. Just make sure that the box doesn't lose the stored channels when you take away power. It would be a pain to have to scan for channels every time you get in the truck. Definitely post pics/video if you can do that, I'm tempted to do this... if there was a tv tuner that had a built in dvd player I'd be all over it.
  23. Are you referring to the really long one, like the one that goes off to the left in this picture? That one should be grounded, either by splicing in a chassis ground like in the picture or just splicing it into the common ground from the wire harness. If there is another cable that the installers ran from the parking brake, that one shouldn't be attached to the radio. Basically the 3 requirements for the bypass are 1. Ground the parking brake wire 2. Move the mute wire 3. Ground the mute wire If you've done all this, it should act as though the parking brake is always on... c
  24. Do not ground the parking brake wire while it is attached to the other wire. That will cause your car's "brake" light to be on indefinitely, and the nav system still won't work. You probably just need to move the mute wire, that is the other step of the installation. Just grounding the parking brake wire isn't enough. Here's the best walk-through, basically use a small flathead screwdriver or a pick to press down on the metal of the yellow mute wire that is exposed through the connector, then it should slide right out. Snap it back into the new location and reinstall. viewtopic.p
