  1. So I got the official apple adapter and my f700bt is refusing to register that an iPod is connected. It will charge and I can listen to music by switching to av1 but I can't switch to the iPod on the av sources screen. I'm not sure what else to try, after reading this thread I figured it would work. I have the official apple av cable as well. Maybe I need to update the avic fw?
  2. Just wanted to share an app I found that lets you control Pandora, Spotify, and other music apps with your Avic. It is called Music Controls Pro and is $6 in the Cydia app store (have to be jailbroken). I have used it in the past and it was alright, but the latest version now displays the track title, artist, and album art on the Avic screen. It is really cool. Here is the official page, but the easiest way to get it is by searching for "music controls" in the Cydia store. http://phoenix-dev.com/index.php?cat=Music_Controls_Pro
  3. I came here looking for the same thing. Maybe since we can't hack the Avic we can hack the iphone instead? There is this app on Cydia called Music Controls which lets you control Pandora (and other apps) using the built in iPod controls, and even using iPod docks and headphones with the iPod button. Essentially this app tricks the iphone into thinking the music is being played by the ipod app. All the commands that are supposed to be sent for the ipod app are routed into Pandora and vice versa. Unfortunately the controls from the Avic don't work with Music Controls. http://forum.tipb.c
  4. The purpose of the EQ is to correct imbalances in the frequency response of your speakers due to the properties of your speakers, the enclosures they're in, and your car's cabin. There is no universally correct EQ settings, but if you find someone with the same speakers as you they might be able to help you out. In general, most people prefer a "smile" EQ for rock music. This means that the midrange is turned down a bit and the bass and treble are turned up a bit. My usual technique for adjusting the EQ: 1)Set everything to 0 (flat) 2)Go to each frequency and turn it all the way do
  5. I also hate the signs, and I would appreciate a script to make them show up only when you need to take the exit. Just my $.02
  6. I think you can just search for it on Cydia and install it like you'd install any other jailbroken app.
  7. I disovered the other day that when you play a Youtube video on the iPhone when it's attached to the radio it plays the video on the radio screen. I've tried screensplitr and TVOut in the past, but neither of them worked very well. The Youtube videos were pretty good quality though, and the controls are still on the phone screen so it's easy to control. There may be other apps that do this, Youtube is the only one I've tried so far. One more tip, doubletap the phone screen once the video has started playing to zoom the video so it fills the radio screen.
  8. this post might help you viewtopic.php?f=34&t=17490&start=45#p116696 I tried changing the 2D arrow to a bmp by just replacing the files but it doesn't seem to work. I rezipped the DATA.zip file and put it on my head unit, and now when I hit map, it just reboots. These are my files: http://myfiles.neu.edu/willard.mi/avic4 ... daycar.bmp http://myfiles.neu.edu/willard.mi/avic4 ... rghost.bmp http://myfiles.neu.edu/willard.mi/avic4 ... ghtcar.bmp http://myfiles.neu.edu/willard.mi/avic4 ... rghost.bmp
  9. My iPhone has the blurry artwork issue. I used the iTunes "get album artwork" option to get most of my album art, maybe that's the cause?
  10. Here is what the batch file should look like, I think. Hopefully someone can try it out and let me know if it works. this assumes your sd card is organized in the following way here's one I made http://myfiles.neu.edu/willard.mi/avic411/copy.bat you should run this from testmode, after you do the WinCE update. It will copy the files required for the 3.0 firmware. If you want to use a customized DATA.zip, put that into the \My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo folder on your SD card while it is in your computer. I put another version of the how-to in the wiki http://avic411.com/wiki/
  11. when it starts up normally it goes away but i left it on for a good 10 min and it still said it and it wont let me do anything else I just did mine and I also had a hard time hitting edit. I did a recalibration before I did anything, too, so that probably wouldn't help you. I think if you just keep trying you'll get it eventually. Another idea I had for you is that you could create a batch file (.bat extension) to copy the files and run that, instead of hitting copy-paste. I'm going to work on one now and I'll post up instructions in a bit.
  12. the DATA file is the one that gets overwritten. It IS a zip file, but it is just not displayed as such. If you notice, the DATA.zip file on your SD card is also just displayed as DATA. Go ahead and copy the DATA file from your sd card onto the one in the iGo folder on the "My Flash Drive" and it will work. Don't unzip anything
  13. Does that go away eventually? Maybe someone knows a way to hit the edit button without needing to do the recalibration, or else you might have to figure out a way to go back to the 2.0 software.
  14. You probably have to recalibrate your screen. Boot it normally and do the screen calibration in the settings.

    GPS view

3.0 fixed this. There is now a heading-up view for 2D mode. For now, you can use 3D mode which always follows your direction. here is how to update to 3.0: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=25751
  16. If you jailbreak your phone there is an app called screensplitr that will display the iphone's screen on the AVIC screen. It's not great quality though (fuzzy and low fps) and you still need to use the phone to control it, but it's good for things like pandora and the MLB at bat app where you just want to see what's playing, who's at bat, etc. Also there is another app, I forget that name, that has much better quality but it blacks out the iphone screen and doesn't support portrait mode, so it's hard to use. Hopefully they'll update screensplitr eventually.
  17. I just ordered my update. I just think of it as a free firmware update and $60 for the new maps. I guess if I didn't want the new maps I'd be pissed, but the maps that are on there now are terrible so I'm glad to fork over the cash (same reason I bought Tom's knob). If you want the perfect Nav unit, go ahead and pay thousands of dollars for one. My F700 was close enough BEFORE the update to make spending more on a different Nav seem silly, and with these updates--if the videos and Pioneer hype are to be believed--it's pretty much as nice as those $1000+ units, and I still only paid $500 fo
  18. The only port is a female ipod dock port like you'd find on an ipod. It gets its power from the usb port. There's also a blue light that is solid when the device is looking for a phone to connect to and flashes once every 6 seconds once connected. Other than that, it's just a white plastic box about the size of the ipod plug on the apple cable but a little bit wider. If you search for Anycom FIPO you can find some more information on it. Here's what it will look like: http://www.wired.com/listening_post/200 ... luetooth_/ This link has a picture of it in an ipod speaker doc: http
  19. For me it's just nice to have the option. Since I need to take my phone with me every time I leave the car lots of times I won't bother plugging it in and just listen to the radio. Now I just hit play on my phone and it starts playing. The sound quality isn't great but it's good enough for me. If I decide to turn up the music and want better sound all I have to do is plug in the cable, so you don't lose anything there. Sure you lose a lot of functionality when using the bluetooth instead of pluggin in, but I think it's worth $16 to have the option to go wireless when I want to.
  20. I just confirmed that this works great. The sound is not perfect, but it's not any worse than using an ipod through the same cable. It seems like the phone's connection to the head unit continues to work, I didn't try making any calls but the light was still on and I could see the battery level and signal strength fine. I did get some breakups in the signal for some reason when it was just starting up, maybe cause by interference? It went away on its own. My phone connects up really quickly once I turn the car on, couldn't be any easier. Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth the $16 or
  21. Thank you sooooo much. You just made my night. I had given up on this. 0000 DUH
  22. Got one of these in the mail today, I'll try it out tomorrow (or maybe later tonight, I'm bored) edit... didn't work (yet). It got power, but did not show up as an ipod on the AVIC. My phone did "discover" it, but it asked for a password, and I'm not sure what the default password is. I tried 1111 and the last 4 digits of the hardware address, neither worked. Wish I had an ipod dock to test it with.
  23. Here's da thread, you don't even have to scroll down viewtopic.php?t=25031
  24. It is also just as possible that with the upgrade AVIC will brew coffee for you... What if we booted in testmode, but had the updates on a USB thumb drive? I would think that you could just put the files on the SD card along with the testmode files. The problem is that it seems like they've built in a way to make it so that your copy of the firmware only works on a system with your serial number. "It will also have a security code linked to your AVIC serial number." Someone will have to hack that system before we can just pass the files around and load them onto our F-Series.
  25. that looks really good. I like the idea of having 2 antennas. How is the reception?
