1. You might be right. But I think everybody should have a backup of their HDD. But even if we only get 100 then it would be $25 each.
2. The service people are using to unlock their hard drives offers unlimited unlocking for one year. The cost is $2500. I emailed them and they said it is OK to share the license. Here is the quote: "Hello, According to our TOS available at http://hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/licenses/tos/ : " You can share your Repair Station account with any third party; however, you agree to take responsibility for all usage of your account. We also reserve the right to limit simultaneous sessions at our discretion. " So yes, you can share the license with other people. Should y
3. Swapping hard drives and getting each unit to work is probably bigger news than just trying to find a bypass. I think this is huge. It means that we can clone a Z2 HDD and put it in a Z1 and the Z1 becomes a Z2. Once the bypass is figured out then we don't have to buy an upgrade. Good work.
4. Put it in "album" mode. It cant delete in "artist" mode.
5. Looks like that USB thing will work on Z1 (according to the owners manual) Click on the link above and go to owners manual and it mentions the Z1 in head unit group 4.
6. Maybe he'll give you a refund if you return it.

One crappy workaround is to press the P-list button and it will change to the next album or artist. .
That's weird, i don't have that problem - when i press next track i get a random song, not the next song in the
8. I was hoping for this update to fix some CDs that were wrong or unknown. It didn't work. Same old mistakes and unknown CDs. I wonder what when this "snapshot" of the Gracenote database was taken.
9. I was checking out that unlocking website and I noticed that they have different prices depending on the amount of "recoveries". The cheapest one before the "$2400 unlimited" was 36 for $640 that comes out to $18 each. Is there any way we can share the license?
10. Dang those things (automotive HDDs) might be cost-prohibitive. I might practice on some regular ones before trying an automotive HDD.
11.
No one has bought an automotive drive and copied the stock drive to it.
That is on my to do list. Gotta let the wife know to erase all that other crap she keeps writing on that white board. Gonna start tinkering around with this thing. Wish it wasn't so damn cold outside.

Z2 Announced

Not that many. Just about 500. I know people with thousands of the damn things.
13. Once the Pioneer startup screen goes away then you hear music from your library. Since you don't use the library, can I have your 10GB?
14. I dont own an Ipod. I just figured (correctly) that Ipods would play immediately because you are not accessing the Z1 hard drive.

Hey I dont get a McDonald's logo. I just get a generic hamburger indicating fast food restaurant. I think I just get Subway and Arby's. I did see that McDonalds logo on the cnet review.
16. Actually I just checked my Z1 music library and it only took about 200 cds before I got to 99% full and had to start deleting tracks. I also noticed that it would take 2 cds before a one percentage went down on the hard drive space screen. So 200 cds makes sense. I now have 206 albums and 6% left (after I deleted a crap-load of tracks). I also read in the manual that the maximum artists and albums you can register is 400 (pg 116). That doesn't seem to jibe with the 1000 number you guys saw. I was thinking that it might be pulp_fiction's Z1 installation and not his actua
17. OK. I just found this forum and I've been reading a lot. Wish I found it before I bought my Z1. I've had one for about 6 months. What happened to this thread? From what I have read there has been only one person who swapped a hard drive and had it work!? I've also gathered that he increased the music partition, but was limited to 1000 albums. That still sounds pretty damn good. Only about 250-300 fit on 10GB before I had to start deleting tracks. Did he check the space left percentage after loading a number of albums? I'm ready to start messing with the thing because

So if you want to find the next gas station it would tell you the next one on your route and not just wit
19. if it's from the hard drive then the music won't play until after boot up. Radio and CDs play immediatlely. Probably Ipods too, but I dont own one. -mk

Why can't Pioneer put a bigger hard drive in the thing? 10GB fills up way to quickly. I'd buy a new 50GB Z2 hard drive and pop it in my Z1.
