  1. I have tested/owned almost every GPS/NAV unit ever made at one time or another & the Pioneer has the absolute worst routing engine I have ever used period (Garmin is the best hands down). The last Pioneer I owned was a Z1 (sold it on ebay). It was an awesome entertainment system but a simply terrible NAV unit. ~John
  2. I don't know who's responsible for the Pioneer routing, but it is hands down the worst I have ever used. I sold a Z1 on ebay after using it for 3 weeks because the routing was so bad it made the unit virtually useless if good NAV operation is important to you (there are $200 NAV units available that are WAY better) I have owned NAV/GPS units for years & the Pioneer was the biggest POS I have ever owned although it did provide some nice eye candy.......... ~John

  4. I would like to have voice control myself, but I also want a NAV that works correctly & the Z1 sure ain't it. I had a Z1 for 3 weeks before I sold it in disgust on ebay & replaced it with an Eclipse 5510. ~John
  5. This is the kind of stuff that's inexcesable & why I dumped mine. I mean come on, are you kidding me?? The cheapest GPS out there doesn't make mistakes like that & this POS cost me $2200. Any NAV unit will make an occasional mistake sure, but not ones like that & the Pioneer does stuff like that routinely. None of my 3 Garmin units or my Eclipse has ever said to make a u-turn, you buy NAV units so you don't get into situations where you HAVE to make a u-turn. ~John
  6. That is partly true, there is no display on my H/U but I'm curious as to why you need one?? Mine dials any phone # with a voice command(if it is in my address book I just say the name, if it's not I say the phone #), it works perfectly without ever taking my eyes off the road so why would I need to look at a display?? You can answer with a voice command also if you want. Any function that you would use a display for is available to me by voice command & it works perfectly without ever looking at a display so why is that a disadvantage?? ~John
  7. One thing I can tell you about the new KW is that it uses the Garmin GPS module. That is a good thing there because there are $200 Garmins available that are 50 times better than the Z1 NAV function. I have a Garmin 2610 on my Harley & it works just as well as my Eclipse does. ~John
  8. That makes sense to me. ~John
  9. I don't have the Ipod interface (I might be the only person left in the Country that doesn't own an Ipod) but I've heard the Ipod functionality is great (It was not good at all in the older 5500 but it's been vastly improved in the 5510 from what I hear). My son has an Ipod, but he never lets me use it.....I have CD-R disc's with all my favorite MP3's that play super from the Eclipse, so I don't really have any use for an Ipod myself (I don't think my kid ever takes his off) The BT does not display anything, it is all loud clear voice commands & it works super (it is a Parrot 3100 but
  10. I had a Z1 for a while & sold it on ebay because a working NAV unit is my most important feature(I travel a LOT on business). I have had NAV units for years & I can now say without reservation that the Z1 was the absolute biggest POS I ever owned as far as NAV goes. I loved all the other features of the Z1, but the NAV was basically unuseable IMHO. I now have an Eclipse 5510 with Sirius, Parrot Blue Tooth & a backup camera in my 06 Ford Escape Hybrid & it is awesome. The NAV function is superb as are the audio functions (I run three external AMPS w/ Infiniti component sp
  11. I bought a Z1 because I loved the features of it, but I should have checked here first(I didn't know about this forum at the time). I travel a LOT & a good NAV unit is very important to me. I am a long time experienced NAV user, & I can say in no uncertain terms that the Z1 was the biggest POS I have ever used as far as the NAV function is concerned(I have a $300 Garmin unit on my Harley that is 1000 times better than the Pioneer). After the 2nd business trip I took with the Pioneer, I sold it on ebay & replaced it with an Eclipse unit which is superb. What really took th
  12. Exactly. That POS Pioneer Z1 I had once told me to "make a legal U-turn" when I was traveling down a 4 lane divided highway....... I have been using NAV units for years & as far as I am concerned Pioneer makes the absolute worst NAV units on the market by far. As I stated before, I LOVE some of the Pioneer features but if a quality NAV is important to you do not under any circumstance buy a Pioneer(at this point anyway) ~John
  13. I have used both Pioneer & Eclipse NAV units rather extensively & although I love some of the Pioneer features if NAV is the main reason you are buying a unit then the Pioneer should not even be considered(at this point anyway). I have a $300 Garmin unit on my Harley that blows away any Pioneer unit for route planning. I had a Pioneer Z1 in my 06 Ford Escape, I travel a LOT for business & the NAV routing was so poor with the Pioneer that I sold it & replaced it with an Eclipse 5500. The routing with the Eclipse is superb. If Pioneer ever gets their act together with t
  14. I used/tested a Z1 quite extensively before buying a 2nd Eclipse unit(a 5500). I love a lot of the features of the Pioneers, but my #1 main concern is a useable NAV unit as I travel a lot, & as far as I'm concerned the Pioneer is basically useless in this regard. A neighbor of mine has a Z1 in his MDX & we have compared the two units at lenght & the Z1 is totally incapable of calculating an intelligent route from point A to point B(the Eclipse is superb in this regard). If Pioneer drastically improves the NAV function of the new Z2, I still may swap out my Eclipse for tha
  15. There is something screwy about those ratings, I just removed the factory Visteon NAV from my 06 Escape Hybrid & the score listed for that POS is WAY WAY too high. That unit is a good 4 years out of date(the maps are not even on DVD, they give you a stack of 12 CD's you have to feed it depending on what area you are in). The display is the size of a postage stamp & half the roads in my area aren't even shown(they are all there on my Eclpise unit) ~John
