  1. Yeah to add a few things to this, if you have access to a Radio Shack, you can pick up a 12v DC powersource that plugs into the wall. Some Ham Radio operators use this for powering 12v equipment in their house instead of ina car. Works great and as the previous poster said, do the bypass and check it's operation.
  2. Yeah, the mast kind of bugs me as well. I see that VW has some newer ones withou the mast, so I may just replace it with one of those. This all sure beats the hockey puck with wires hanging out of it.
  3. In my case my car didn't come stock with the sharkfin antenna, but I was able to order one from the dealership and install it giving me XM, Sirius, GPS, FM. It was well worth the paltry sum I paid for it. I think just about any dealership will sell you these if there is one available. I just love the stock look.
  4. Yup. I did this with my VW. If it is already wired behind your headunit just take a look at the connector and either get an adapter, see if the existing one fits or splice in the pioneer connector to the existing wire. Just make sure the impedance is good. Really most GPS antennae are only 2 wires. Good luck. This definitely makes it look more stock.
  5. Take the wire back out and readjust the little pin in the middle so it catches. Then make sure the hole that the pin will go into is a little tight and click it back in. I had this issue but did these things to tighten it.
  6. My apologies. I stand corected. I just read the new manual for the Z130bt and it indeed has the Auto EQ. The interesting part is that the mic you purchase plugs into the miniplug on the iPod cable. This leads me to believe this may be made to work with older models unofficially of course. Granted the new units use a new iPod cable, but perhaps this is backwards compatible. Wouldnt that be interesting. Thoughts?
  7. Actually the Auto EQ features will not be found on the Flagship navigation units, i.e. the Z130BT, or X930BT. This is only a feature found on the new non-navigation headunits and will be facilitated by the use of an optional mic CD-MC20. You can confirm this by looking at the audio sections of the individual units on Pioneer's site. This feature is not listed on the new Nav units but is on the new non-Nav units. This is info I gleaned from research from Crutchfields and other sources, so YMMV.
  8. For anyone who has noticed the annoying lack of a lowercase button on the onscreen keyboard when editing Favorites. Tonight I found that I can export favorites to an SD and then open them in the favorites editor in AVIC Feeds on a PC. From there you can make the names whatever you want. You can even rename the home entry it puts in when you program the return to home button. From there save to SD and then from the Z import and voala everything is the way it is supposed to be. Kinda cool.
  9. Excellent. This was the confirmation I needed. Thank you!
  10. Well they redacted on their facebook page. Im pretty sure I know what they are going to do like VBLUE has said. Just posting this so we can get a chuckle in a few months when this plays out.
  11. This has been discussed quite a bit over in the CES 2011 threads. There will indeed be a year 11 software update for the Z/X to bring them up to the Z130bt/X930bt. The Traffic device is a separate box for at least the X930 and possibly even the Z130. There is also a bunch of threads on that with confirmations of compatibilities as well controversy.
  12. Sorry I should have been more specific. I wonder if this is going to take the place of all the button pushes we go through to get the Z to be able to accept the Netflix stream in which we initiate from our idevices. If so this is a cool feature.
  13. Very cool. I wonder if we can then start up Netflix etc in this mode.
  14. Very shortsighted of them if this is what they are doing. They stand to make more money if they don't cripple it and here is my reasoning. Those who bought the old Z units seem fairly willing to shell out the $$ for the traffic unit plus the cost of the software update. 120 + 200 on the low side. Some of us may do this each year to get the updates. Now if they cripple traffic there is no way I would go out and get the Z130. In fact that is enough bad will that I would move to another manufacturer. Now I know that game; been playing for a long time. Manufacture's are fully within their r
  15. I'm sorry I think that these higher up marketing pukes are just feeding everyone a line of bull pucky. They would essentially shoot themselves in the foot if they did this. I for one will dump my receiver and move to Alpine or Kenwood if they pull this crap. We have confirmed instances of the new TMC working with the new software on the Z. I think the head marketing stiffs are talking out their back sides. If it works which we have heard from multiple sources that it does then Pioneer disabling this would be out of greed.
  16. The real question is what do we think Pioneer is going to charge for the update. Can they charge the same price they did for the 110->120 upgrade? On another note Aha is pretty cool. Been playing with the app for a couple of days.
  17. Cool I knew that from when I installed it, I have just read some accounts that say you need the splitter. Sounds like I can go without. Thanks or the reply.
  18. It has been discussed a few times but I don't see the definitive answer. If I want to run an HD radio module and my MSN Traffic tuner together do I need a Y splitter for the antenna or can I just do something like this: Antenna into MSN input MSN output to HD radio module From anyone who is doing this, what have you found the better way to be?
  19. BTW, Jason you are doing a great job of covering this! I'm actually kind of envious that I didnt get to go out there this year. Thanks for keeping us in the loop like you are doing. It is greatly appreciated.
  20. Just to add more confirmation that the new TMC traffic unit IS compatible with our devices, here is the word straight from Pioneer's Facebook guys. Now I don't know if they are engineers but they are certainly qualified to say what their products will and will not due. Based on this and the pioneer engineers who are using this right now I think it is a sure bet this will be backwards compatible. I am very pleased that Pioneer took care to ensure this.
  21. Keep trying. If your screen calibration is off it can be tough. Had the same issue. Eventually I got it just right.
  22. I know this is an old thread but I wanted to reply and say what I do to get around this. 2 Things: 1) At any point you can tap on the distance to next turn located in the upper left hand of the display. That will call out the next turn. 2) Rely on the red line if possible. For the most part on local trips I glance at the red line and can get a general idea of if my upcoming turn is left or right. This one is prone to error though.
  23. Mine does not recognize "Front 242" either, but does recognize "Male or Female" little joke for those who know anything about Front242
  24. Considering it. It gives you infinite skips and that is what I want.

    OS??

They run Windows Automotive Edition per the sticker on the side of the unit. I believe that this is in the Wondows CE embedded product family. You will find that a lot of GPS units use this os. It works reasonably well IMHO; this coming from a Linux Engineer.
