  1. You're welcome. As far as forcing the VR re-catalog, I'm not exactly sure of the proper sequence to force it. Thae manual isn't exactly clear either. It certainly couldn't hurt to reboot after turning OFF. It might also work by just disconnecting and re-connecting the iPod. Here is what normally seems to happen. Once a full VR catalog has been done, subsequent reboots just do a quick check. On mine it only takes a few (5-10) seconds. A full rebuild takes several minutes. If you have a Z120, check out pgs 170-171. There are a few things there that you should check. (Language in setting
  2. Sounds like the VR catalog is hosed. Try a few more "canned" commands that don't require recognizing the songs, artists, or albumns on your iPod. Like "Next song", "Previous Song", Change Source to FM", "Change Source to iPod", ... If these work, then it isn't your mic, it is the iPod VR catalog. That can be rebuilt in the AV System Settings menu by turning VR Catalog Mode OFF, then ON. It should take several minutes. Oh, make sure Echo Cancel is turned ON in the BT Settings menu.
  3. A trickle charger would work, or you could remove the battery from your car. I had an extra battery 12v in the garage, so it was easy. Many modern PC power supplies require mother-board circuitry before they power-up, so beware. I guess you could make an adapter to run off your PC using an unused HD power harness. Make sure you get the correct voltage. I think it provides both +5 and +12. BTW, The Z110/120 spec says 10.8V - 15.1V DC. It can draw up to 10.0 AMPs (which could be a problem with using the HD harness on a PC power supply. I know it sounds like a pain, but pulling the bat
  4. Sure, you can easily bench-check it. Connect the black wire to -12v and the red & yellow to +12v. It should boot right up. Might also be a good time to do the by-pass and test it before installing it. Then you should be able to play DVDs. You could also easily connect line out audio to a stereo ( I used a desk radio with aux line in), or temporarily connect some speakers. I wanted to make sure it wasn't defective before I wasted the time to remove the stock radio and install the AVIC. Just be very careful that you don't short-out any dangling wires with your power source.
  5. Just to clarify, you did the 2.0 update, and then, without first installing BT 3.10 and 3.11, you installed 2.003? Now that is sort of backwards, but I doubt it causes a problem. 2.003 did have some BT fix I recall. Maybe there is some conflict. At least one other member posted that BT Firmware Update was disabled, but I don't recall what the fix was. Maybe that person will see this and jump in here. I do remember once seeing that disabled on my unit, but it was only temporary. I don't remember the circumstances. Maybe you should do a factory reset.
  6. Yes, it sounds like the g-sensor is wacky, so the unit thinks you are turning. Try resetting all the sensors so they will re-calibrate (see pg 149 in the Z120 manual). Then drive for a few miles.
  7. It's been a while since I've seen the backside of my Z110, but I don't recognize that connector. Is it from the Pioneer? It doesn't look like the ones in the installation manual. Or maybe it is the OEM radio harness from your vehicle's radio? I doubt you will find an empty connector shell with no pins. Your best bet, and alot easier, would be to by a second one and remove the pins of the wires you don't need. You might find something from Metra. They make lots of harness adapters. Sorry, I can't offer much help, but I thought any response would be better than nothing.
  8. In this case, a ground is a ground. It is just a circuit. Sometimes, for audio, you need to be concerned about noise from other sources, but not here. Just make sure it is a good ground. Your issue is probably that the pin is not seated all the way.
  9. Of course you can mount the camera anywhere you desire, but the Z110 will switch the display to the camera input when you are in reverse. You could connect the Reverse wire to a dash switch instead of a backup light circuit. Then you could control it manually. You can also display it via split screen. But the biggest problem using the Pioneer camera is that it will reverse the image. That might get confusing with the camera facing forward. Better to get a standard camera (12v dc composite). I'm sure they are available.
  10. No idea why. Maybe you should try to reset everything to factory. Did you try Voice Recognition? What exactly happens when you press the left button? And, of course, you need to press the stupid OK and be in the correct audio source mode (like iPod) for VR to do anything. I'm assuming this isn't a BT pairing problem.
  11. I just checked out the installation manual, which is very skimpy on technical detail. Boyo vtl375 Manual There appears to be two video outputs in the connector. In the manual, one is labeled Video, the other is Mirror. So maybe the installers got them switched somehow. Like I said, the manual doesn't say much on the actual hook-up. It is mainly on how to mount the unit.
  12. Read pg 170 in AVIC-120BT manual. AV System Settings menu. First press Mute until it says either Guide/Tel/VR or Tel/VR. Then press Mute Level and chose 20db, 10db, or All based on how much muting you want.
  13. Sounds like you didn't patch or install ShortFuse's hack correctly. If it was patched, you should be on version 1.002, if it wasn't correctly patched it will be v1.001. You need to be updated to 1.002 before installing V 2.0
  14. That's odd, here is mine. I wonder if the difference is because mine was a Z110 upgraded to Z120 software? Maybe the update doesn't overwrite all of the system software. And maybe the Z120 doesn't support this feature. Or maybe it never worked in the first place, so they removed it. Sorry, I guess that's it then.
  15. Sounds like some of the sensors arent working correctly. The gyro should detect the turn, even with poor satellite reception. And VSS will tell the unit what your speed is (approximately). So the unit can do a good job figuring out your heading and speed - and approximate your position based on the last good GPS fix (dead-reconing). Did you follow my post above to recalibrate? You can also see if VSS is working. The VSS reading should be 0 when you are not moving, and non-zero when moving. Don't worry about the actual number, the HU will figure out how many tics per mile as it calibrates.
  16. It sounds like you have a need for that then. Seems like it would of been easy for Pioneer to provide some way to see LAT/LON. Jeez, even my Android phone can display that.
  17. Once the bypass mod is correctly done, yes, the radio, PB, and the former mute wire can be grounded together. You did move the mute over one pin, yes? A common problem is not seating the moved wire fully into the connector plug.
  18. Assuming you mean your current coordinant (latitude and longitude), it appears that you can't. Is that a problem? The only place where they are used appears to be as one way to enter a destination. Also, they are used in AVIC Feeds to identify a waypoint or Favorite. I suppose you could always save your current location as a Favorite, export Favorites to AVIC Feeds (on the SD card) and load it into AVICFeeds on your PC. Then you could see it. Note: I have never tried this, but seems like it would work. But why?
  19. Sorry, my mistake. That was in the Z110 manual - pg 160. I see that the Z120 manual does not mention this feature. In fact, the AV System Settings screen on the Z120 appears to be missing two soft-buttons. I'm not sure if the problem is with the manual, or that they dropped that feature in the Z120. When I get back to my car I'll verify. Here is what it said in the Z110 manual: Switching the auto antenna setting If the blue lead of the navigation system is connected to the antenna control terminal of the vehicle, select either of the following settings. Power - The antenna ex
  20. Yeah, I have a 6 speed too (Porsche 987), but I don't regularly drive with one hand on the shifter. I'm steering more than I'm shifting, and my hands are faster than my feet, so there's no reason to rest my hand on the shifter when it should be where it would be needed in a sudden hard turn/manuver. My biggest beef with the new UI (Z120) is it distracts the driver too much. Too much bling. Too much scrolling. The source wheel on the left is a disaster - it even shows things that aren't available - in my case Pandora, but doesn't have the BT and iPod icons available at the same time withou
  21. Eventually, you'll want to update the maps. There's no way (until someone figures how to hack the unit), to do that without updating everything. As many have said, they should of separated the map update from the system update. Let the users decide. I hope (but doubt) that the Z130 update fixes a few of the major annoyances of the Z120. I haven't seen a good demo yet, and you can't tell just looking at the specs.
  22. I have a 64GB iTouch. I had a similar problem when I first installed the Z110. Seemed to take 15-20 minutes to catalog about 2500 songs. Even after the initial catalog, it took several minutes each time I started up. Like Jason said, I turned off VR cataloging and that made it tolerable. For some reason, my unit sometimes resets/looses the VR catalog. The unit acts stupid and cant locate any song/artist/album. So when that happened, I had to turn VR back on - so it would rebuild the catalog (15-20 min). Somewhere around the time that I upgraded the software to Z120, I also updated the iPod
  23. What camera make/model did they install? I used to work for a company long ago that made rear view camera/monitors for RVs (way back when that was a novelty). I think the reversed image was done in the camera, not in the video monitor. So standard video cameras might fit and work, but not produce the same image. Just a guess.
  24. You might want to pull the HU and bench-test it. All you really need to connect are the red (+), yellow (+), and black (-) wires. If that works, it's your installation wiring. If not, its your HU. You can do this yourself if you know how to remove it from the dash. Seeing it is a BMW, there is probably a trick to it. So your next option is to let your installer check it.
  25. It is supposed to be a mirror image, like you were looking in your rear-view mirrors. Are you saying it isn't or it is?
