  1. Except that if you don't get RDS, you don't get TMC trafic info..
  2. Actually, they did. Before the software update on the Z2, nobody came up with a usable bypass....
  3. Don't think it's available in US form, but in Europe I'd seriously think about the Clarion i.s.o. Pioneer Clarion MAX973HD .
  4. There you go..... pin-out connector
  5. Cable for the Z1 is identical to the HD1 (and HD3) I have the pin-out at home, I'll check tonight...
  6. Strange, as you can see in the manual, yes, the handbrake wire should be amongst these connections... blue-white system control should NOT be one of these btw, if you look in the manual.... Maybe an error from Pioneer in the cable/connector ? (I'm assuming you have the HD1BT)
  7. Guess the difference Z1/Z2 is the same as for HD1/HD3... In the upgrade manual you can see al the changes... 700HD upgrade from page 10 or so onwards....
  8. Did you look in the manual link I sent you ?... (it probably also has a plastic label on it telling you what it is....) Re. the bluetooth adapter, you can just leave it somewhere behind the dashboard, as long as it's not shielded by metal...
  9. You can find the connections here , on page 11 (it's light green) About converting a Z1 for Europe (or VV), it's been discussed before on this forum and it was not worth it. Too many problems (area codes, maps , radio, etc. )
  10. I think the main difference is in the ease of the bypass (just handbrake wire is enough for the European version), obviously European map database and different radio (RDS radio with TMC, different freq. grid etc. ) Also for some weird reason the numbering is different... Z1 == HD1(BT) Z2 == HD3(BT)
  11. I looked up the Dietz CAN bus interfaces and they seem to be really good. But it doesn't look like they support Pioneer HUs ?? http://www.dietz.biz/ENG/000000965c0e2c051/index.html I just looked on the Pioneer site, and it seems you can also get an original Pioneer adapter that supplies all the required signals of the CAN bus: Pioneer adapters ALL with steering control 2002 > CAN ALL models with quad-lock (Fakra) connector behind OE unit incl. Speedpulse, Reverse Gear, Illumination signals CA-R-PI.221 V2 Manual CA-R-PI221 V1
  12. Well, in Europe they're called HD1 (=Z1), and HD3 (=Z2). We don't have all these problems you seem to have with bypassing the units , for both the old HD1 and the new HD3, all you have to do is permanently ground the handbrake input....
  13. The way it works in Europe (just did the update myself, it's available over here) you need to input the serial number of your unit, together with a serial number you get with the two update DVD's on the Pioneer website . You then get a 16 digit password back. When you insert the DVD in your Pioneer, it asks for this 16 digit password.... I would imagine it (will) works the same in the US... Update takes a little over 3 hours to complete...
  14. [quote name="geoffpHi jwq' date=' That is good news. I was hoping the HD3 was the same (or close to it) as the Z2. What is the difference with the radio? Was also reading about the bluetooth echo problems, so I will definitely be checking that once I pair my phone to the AVIC. Thanks very much for the info, much appreciated. Regards, Geoff.[/quote] On the European versions (HD1/HD2) you get inbuilt FM/AM receivers with RDS and all the options like categories, radiotext and TMC trafic navigation. The US versions I understand do not have this, but need to use the satelite radio tuner f
  15. Hi, Actually, the Z1 is equal to the HD1, and the Z2 is equal to the HD3 (more or less, apart from the radio part) The HD1 can be updated to the HD3 using the 700HD update ( 2 DVD's) that update the map database and the system software. I just completed this on my HD1BT, and this works fine. I now have the TeleAtlas 2007 maps (for Europe) and the HD3 software..(bluetooth echo problem finally seems realy solved now as well...)

    Z1 Update

So does this mean you can update the maps without updating the software (ie. bypass)? Possibly, but looking at other threads the US update would actually allow you to continue using the Z1 bypass. However, note that in Europe we do not have this problem . Over here it's enough to simply ground the handbrake wire.....

    Z1 Update

3 Hours!?...looks like I'm going to have to break out the battery charger. Reading the manual, it's a 2-phase approach. Fase 1 is updating the maps etc., this takes approx 3 hours. Phase 2 is updating the system software. This takes about 10 minutes. Again according to the instructions, you can interupt the map updates, where the unit will continue with the update where it left off... For the system software update to work, you HAVE to be in a specific screen (map screen, displaying your current position) for it to work. This last update procedure must not be interrupted....

    Z1 Update

In Europe you can just buy the disc, generate the password and self install. According to the update manual, install takes approx 3 hours....
