  1. There are literally hundreds of options when it comes to headrest monitors. Things to look are, what size of monitor wil physically fit in your headrest (duh), do you want 4:3 or 16:9, do you want controls built in, or a clear smooth look. Personally, I would want a widescreen monitor without any control buttons on it for a really smooth look once it's installed in the bezel. But once you know what you want, you can start looking for a TFT monitor with the highest resolution possible.
  2. I sure hope it only requires a new adapter! I know in the case of Alpine, their first iPod interface (KCA-420i) basically just translated the controls for the CD Changer into iPod language. Everything was controlled using the MP3 playback buttons and logic of the headunit (because that was already around). That is also why it was so slow and why it was limited to the first 256 songs (the most allowed in a regular MP3 CD's TOC). They should have just come out with a new adapter, but I have a feeling they would have done that if the headunit could support full speed access. That's why
  3. Voice control is on the wireless remote (which would allow you to place calls), so that's an option.
  4. Thanks for the feedback, I'm looking for something that is completely hidden though, so I ordered one of the $40 slim line cameras on eBay. I figure if it fails I can still replace a it a few times before I've spent what I would have for a high quality camera.

  6. If you use the wired PAC interface you will be limited to those controls but get better performance, if you go wireless you can program whatever you want, but they may not be as reliable.
  7. You don't need a Double DIN kit (the opening in a VW, with the exception of the Touareg, and A5 platform cars) is a standard double DIN. All you need is the double DIN sleeve from a D1 or D2 and it will slide right in.
  8. With Alpine's Full-Speed iPod control available, it's only a matter of time until Pioneer (and there rest) catch up. The big question is will it require a hardware change (like the Alpine solution), or can it be done via software. Unfortunately for it, it will most likely require a new source unit (AVIC-Z2).

It may be more accurate without the VSS wire connected when you're driving in a wide open area and not making many turns, but VSS allows the software to use dead reckoning in locations where satellite coverage is limited. In those situations a system with a speed input from the car will always be more accureate.
  10. My invoice indicates that 6Ave had 80 on hand when my order was shipped. Based on that and my experience in the indusry, I would hazard a guess that your estimate is off by a factor of 100, but that's my own best guess, so it certainly doesn't mean very much.
  11. Well, even though DHL said the scheduled delivery was Monday, my Z1 showed up today with no Bluetooth and no iPod adapter. So if anyone can find the Bluetooth I'll pay them for their time.
  12. BigFloppy- Do you have to call your local shop, or does Circuit City's check inventory online feature work? I'm hoping it's the prior, because they're saying none of the stores around me have any.
  13. I agree, with the shortage of unit's that are out there, they're certainly not have any problems moving stock off dealers shelves.
  14. All of the B5.5 and A4 cars are double DIN, so as the previous poster said, with the use of a DIN sleeve you will have no problems. Alternatively, you can ISO mount it in the dash, but that will be a lot more work.

    Advice Needed....

    If you want the most accurate solution, get a system that uses the VSS (it's there in your S-Type). By combining the regular updates with dead-reckoning and the internal gyroscope, the nav system always has at least a best guess at where you are, even between updates from the satellites. That brings up another point, even though the unit you bought from your buddy appeared fine, if the impact from the accident was severe enough, there is a really good chance the gyroscope was damaged, which would explain why your system had a hard time tracking your location accurately.
  17. I placed my order with them on the 3rd, and it shipped on Monday. It won't be here until this Monday, so I'm not sure what is coming in the box, but I'm hopefully I'll get the Z1 and the Bluetooth and iPod adapters I ordered.

  19. I don't even have my Z1 installed yet and I can already anticipate this being annoying. Can you cut her off, or do you have to wait for her to finish talking. We really need to find a solution to this if it exists.
  20. If I was shopping strictly for navigation accuracy, I would choose Alpine. They've been doing this the longest, and they use Navteq for their cartography, which is much better than TeleAtlas. While some of their OEM systems don't have as much detail as the Z1, all of their aftermarket systems have the highest detail available. That said, between the two, I anticipate the Z1 having better navigation accuracy and response because of the amount of data that is used, and also because it uses VSS for dead-reckoning between sat. updates.

  23. I had the 7015 (predecessor to the 717 and 6019) with the 4100 nav piece in a previous car. It was a very nice setup, but I honestly don't think it can touch the Z1 in terms of flexibility. The nicest thing about the Kenwood nav is that it is the first aftermaket integrated nav system to announce support for ClearMedia's TMC based traffic info (a free traffic announcement system that Europe has had for a decade).   24. I've grown up waterskiing and snow skiing, so yep, that's where the name comes from. ISO mount is what some manufacturers use to secure the headunit to the car, and it entails a set of brackets that secure to the sides of the headunit and then bolt directly to the dash. Typically that is performed before the trim bezel of the dash pops on which covers all of the mounting hardware and sets the reveal of the headunit. As long as the opening is double DIN sized and the aftermarket headunit support DIN sleeve mounting (which the Z1 does) you can use that method to install. I know Pione
