  1. Sirius XM has gone to a standard connector for HU's. The new unit supports all the features new OEM radios support and that items like the Lynx Internet Radio support (including pausing of live content, starting at the beginning of a track when you switch stations, etc). These are the first units to be SiriusXM where before they either where XM or Sirius units (the GEX was an XM unit).
  2. I work in Automotive. Products are designed typically with a 5 year lead time. We are already designing stuff for 2016 cars today. 2017's will start this fall. Regardless comparing anything automotive to a personal electronic is unfair. The personal electronic doesn't have to meet the same tests, has a shorter development cycle and typically is replaced faster (and therefore doesn't have to last as long).
  3. You cannot compare Cell Phones to car electronics. OEM Car Electronics have a development cycle of 5 years, aftermerket while quicker is still 2-3 years. A Cell Phone GUI can be changed in under 6 months. The reason it's cheaper and why development is faster is because under extreme conditions it's not as capable. Can your Cell Phone sit in a car for extended periods of time at -40 degrees or 120 degrees (or higher) and still function? Can it go thru this cycle on a regular basis? This is the same reason it takes 10 years to design a new plane. The more complex the system, the mor
  4. If you paid more than $900 for the Z140BH you got ripped off. The OS is fine, it's just not much different than the Z120BT was 2 years ago.
  5. The station names don't show, this is a function of the built in HD unit. The HD unit doesn't allow for that functionality (it is handled in the original software by RDS info which is deleted by the HD info information when using the HD unit). Sirius isn't very good on the Pioneer, XM is the more integrated solution (same company but not hardware). The reverse is true for Kenwood from what I understand.
  6. The classic and older nano's worked differently than the iOS series (and new nano's) on what and how they can transfer of the iPod data connector. Most new cars are designed with the ability for you to take your stock iPod cable and just plug it into the USB port on the radio. Why Pioneer hasn't implemented that feature is beyond me. A special cable is a bit annoying.
  7. You gotta watch out for the "navi whores" who nit pick navigation systems down to the most minute detail. The Pioneer system if you are a casual navigation user (as in you type in the address before you leave the house and don't use it too often) then the system is fine. The Z140 NavTeq maps are better than the TeleAtlas maps but that's only because they are more up to date. My father has a Portable Garmin and it is the easiest most intuative interface ever. Does that mean other navigation systems are crap? No it just means they have poor UI. Lots of perfectly good (and usable product
  8. Your installer was lazy and used the Reverse lamp voltage for power.
  9. For long trips it's nice to know at about what time you will arrive. I force the nav to go a specific way with waypoints and it helps me estemate my actual time of arrival.
  10. Please read my post above about RDS info. With the 140BH since you have the HD module built in you lose RDS info and the presets will only say CH1-CH6. This is how it is suppose to work acording to Pioneer, it's not a bug. So in Canada you lose functionality since HD Radio isn't really used (DAB is) The external box is the traffic info. The HD radio is built into the HU on the Z140BH. If you don't want HD you need to buy a X940BT or a Z130BT.
  11. IdentityWithheld, you are the man. Now mine pauses... I had my rear monitor on iPod when I set it to something else the iPod pauses 2 seconds after I switch sources.
  12. Called Pioneer again. The Tech Support guy is about as helpful as a pile of crap. Anyway decided it was best to cut my losses and just remove the HD and XM modules and not have anything on the IP Bus. Bummer, but at least I still have the important stuff. I did get the traffic tuner installed so that at least makes me happy.
  13. I bought it on Amazon.com. It came in the original packaging. I called Pioneer and asked if there was different firmwares floating around they said no. They recommended reseting each module, and connecting them in different ways (as I already had done) I've got three possibilities right now: Both IP-Bus cables are somehow "bad" Both Modules are somehow "bad" The Radio HU IP Bus input is bad. (or any combo of those). I'm putting in the Traffic Tuner this weekend, so I'll tear the car apart again then as of right now I have everything all connected and maybe it will start wo
  14. Yep. XM Module has Black into Black. Originally this cable's Blue was connected to the HU's Blue. I removed the XM Cables Blue end and plugged that into the HD Module's Blue port. Then I plugged the Black into the Black on the HD and the Blue end of that cable into the HU. When I tried to switch back, I removed the XM's Bluie end from the HD module and plugged it into the Blue port on the HU. So: Original HU Blue -> XM Cable Blue -> XM Cable -> XM Cable Black -> XM Module Black HD Installed (Sound cutting out from XM), no HD on the display HU Blue -&g
  15. So now I'm 90% sure I somehow fried the IP-BUS input on the radio. XM Module has 12V HD Module has 12V Plugging in only the HD Module via the IP Bus does not show the "HD Tuner" Plugging in only the XM Module via the IP Bus does not show the "XM Tuner" I ASSUME there are no issues with my IP-Bus cables, as the XM one worked fine until I messed with it. So I can only assume it's the radio. How does one get the IP Bus connector tested or fixed?
  16. I unplugged power from the radio momentarily. No dice. Still not working. No XM, no HD....
  17. So I got a Z140BH in my Corvette and I was like I like HD radio, so I'm going to add it to my Z110BT which is updated to Z130BT Software. MISTAKE. The following things happened: I installed the GEX-P20HD as instructed by removing the IP BUS cable from the HU and plugging it into the BLUE port on the HD Module, then I took the provided IP BUS cable connected the black end to the HD Module and the Blue to the HU. I tapped into the Ground and a Yellow "constant" power lines going into the radio to power the HD unit. Then I powered everything up. Problem 1, NO HD RADIO on the interf
  18. Most electrical devices drop off (because power is cut to them) during the crank cycle. This is because the starter needs the maximum amount of amps it can get. Sometimes during crank you can drop to 5.5 or 6 volts. Nothing works at that low of a voltage.
  19. I'm too lazy to reset both my units and reprogram all my settings just so the iPod pauses (and probably so my iPhone syncs properly with the Bluetooth audio). Why this didn't work from the factory on mine is beyond me. I just installed my Z140 2 weeks ago. I'll just pause/un-plug my iPod when I want to switch sources.
  20. I've seen station info like call sign on my FM/HD dial on the Z140. I never use the regular radio, so I can't comment on other than what I saw once for 10 seconds. EDIT: Just went out to my car and messed around with it for 5 minutes. Here is how it works. When you tune to a station if it's Non-HD one of two things happens 1. You see nothing under the display (say 94.7) 2. You see the Call Sign (for example I'd see WCSX under 94.7) If the station is HD (and sometimes it has to be tuned to the frequency for 5 seconds) then the following happens You see the Call Sign (for
  21. Kenwood uses Garmin right? They make the best navigation so that's not a surprise. However the AV on the Kenwoods isn't as good as Pioneer. Second, the Navteq maps are quite good on the Z140BH. I can think of only Garmin systems being better, either stand alone or OEM. In regards to OEM solutions the Z140 is way better (With the exception as mentioned of OEM's using Garmin). I take it if you think the Z140 Nav is bad then 95% of OEM navigation must be atrocious to you.
  22. I have 3D buildings in my town (the actual suburb I live in) but only the buildings over 5 stories (we have a few office buildings near the freeway).
  23. I swapped my speakers out, and the HU. I've retained the stock amp. The sound actually isn't too bad. I've got more bass now and the field sounds much cleaner than the stock system. I think what a lot of the big audio guys don't like is how the front channel is split into a 3-way instead of a distinct 2-way. Most of the sound comes out of the center speaker and it washes out the "left-right" noticability. The mono sound in the rear also bothers a lot of people I'd venture.
  24. This is why I never tried the VC on my GTO either and why the loss of Nav VC on the 140 which I have in the Corvette didn't bother me. I don't think either would work well with my loud exhausts. When I make phone calls I have to close my windows and people still say they hear the car in the background.
