1.
My p-brake lead is just grouned. I got Ducati's circuit so I could use all the Nav functions when in motion.
Your parking brake is grounded which works for you. But I would recommend people not ground their parking brake line. If this is a new install and if you ground your parking brake, then the flashing headlights (or flasher circuit) will not work. You will have to put in a DVD and try to watch it and then drive around, once your car notices your parking brake is on and you are moving then it realizes that your parking brake line is not connecte
2. From what Jason found, it looks like that adpater would hook to your speakers but it seems that the shaker 500 is just an amp with subwoofer. No amp for the speakers other than the head unit. If what that adapter looks like is correct. So you might be good to go, you could wire up the 4 speakers to that connector from crutchfield (if it actually works for your car) and then hook the sub outs from the Z1 to the inputs to the factory amp and then hook the turn on from the Z1 to that input from the smaller harness. I had the exact same looking setup for my Lincoln Aviator. And that's how
3. JasonH, nice find. And just FYI, if you do get the factory amp to turn on with the head unit and if you get a popping noise when you turn it on, some people told me it needed to be delayed when turning on the amp, but it turns out for my ford product (lincoln aviator sub woofer amp) it needed 5v turn on not 12v (what the z1 puts out) and so I needed to take a 7805 and a couple caps to make 5V out of the 12V. It might not be necessary but just incase you run in to that....
4.
I have called three car stereo installation places and they have all said the same thing that the Z-1 would require a "Re-Wire" of my stereo system speakers = "Couple Hundred Bucks". Anyone care to elaborate or have any experience with this? I would be very greatful for any input on this Thanks.
If your car has a head unit in the dash and then an amplifier in the trunk (my 1996 Crown Vic had this) you will need to re-wire your speakers. What happens is that your new Z1 head unit has a built in amplifier in the head unit and it outputs directly to the speakers
5.
I'm talking about the touchscreen icon *skin* I know the wallpaper can be changed, but does the system allow you to select different *skins* for the screen icons ? I am thinking about changing the leds to Amber to match my car, but it may appear futile after looking at some pics. It doesn't appear that the skin can be changed.
I don't believe you can... or if you can I haven't found it yet.
6.
I got harness from installer.com, that is for volkswagen. and antenna connectoe too. I am going to follow Pioneer manual. And I got cadillac diagram from cadillacfaq.com. Now I am about to connect. Please give me any info what I miss. And would you explain how "Databus sucks" mean?
Yah, that harness says it from Volkeswagon, but it lists that the 04,05 Cadilac CTS also uses the same harness. I don't know if it does or not, that's a weird collection of vehicles which use the same harness. As for "databus sucks" I think he is referring to the fact tha
7.
I hooked mine up on the bench using a 12v power supply prior to installing it in the car and watched it pulse 12v then pass through 12v....not that I didn't trust you or anything, just that I had to see it myself before hooking it to a HU that cost almost 2k lol. Like I said before, works like a charm!
Dude, no problem, no offence taken. Really... in fact I'm glad that you checked it. You guys don't know me and I could be a sick person and made these to blow up units for some sick joy or something (I didn't, I might be a sick person, but this circuit doe
8. 1. Well by going to installer.com you are half way there. I'm guessing you have a 2004 CTS (just an average I guessed at) and they list this http://www.installer-data.com/item/disp ... it=70-1784 You can also order your Z1 from crutchfield and they would have given you all these install parts free as well as detailed instructions on how to take your dash apart. 2. I don't know. I have never heard of an alarm system working in conjuntion with your stereo, but I supposed Cadilac could have done it. But I
9. I added a little note on the installs, if you want to read it: http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1659#1659 A couple people were having trouble and it turned out that the unit was functioning correctly after all. If you have trouble, double check your connections. I'll try to write up a debugging and trouble shooting guide for people.
10. This is great, I like seeing success stories. I was worried that there might be problems and I might want to come up with a diagnostic troubeshooting guide. I have had a couple of reports of problems, all of which turned out to be installer error. I know this is a black box and you don't know me from Adam as they say and I know it's easy to blame this circuit. But trust me, I don't want to deal with returns or unhappy forum members. Last thing I want is people calling me a hack or a scam artist or something. Each and every one I have sent out was personally tested with my Z
11. I posted pics of my install in the "post pics of your install" thread, but here they are again: http://www.sminnick.com/AviatorRadio/ I changed my background to wood. And you can see it shine though just about everything other then the vehicle dynamics screen... kind of annoyed with that one. And changing the LED's would probably void your warrantee and that's a big risk to take with a $2K unit. But if you do it, post some pics.
12. I have a 2003 Lincoln Aviator, it's pretty close to an 04 Explorer. The dash board is different, but I'll bet the wiring is exactly the same. What kind if info were you looking for? Fitment issues, how to yank the dash apart? I can't help, they are too different. But I'll bet the wiring and harnesses are the same. And technically, I do have that hack installed and it works great, but that's not fair cause I'm the one who designed it and is selling it. :) People got the first batch yesterday and today. There should be reports of success today or so.
13.
so all i have to do is make sure my parking brake isnt on when i turn on the car and flash my lights 3 times before the unit starts up and then ill be able to use dvd while driving when i do this will i be able to still use navigation and is there anything i can do to be able to use nav controles while the car is driving
You don't need 3 times (you only need one), but if you don't have the timing down right a couple times wouldn't hurt (I believe it's turn on car, wait 3 seconds, lights on for 1.25 seconds, off for 2... ish... or if you feel better as soon as
14. Has anyone else noticed the schmucks on ebay selling the information about bypassing the Z1 lockouts? 15.
Let me know if you received it and when you plan on shipping it. I think you said you were gonna ship the second batch on Monday or Tuesday but I got confused because you also said you weren't gonna order the parts for the second batch until everybody reported no problems with the first batch.
Actually, I was waiting, but there was so much interest, I ordered a "second batch" in small quantitys just to get them out quick, but not be stuck with 300 of these if there happened to be a problem or something. But mine was working so well, I ordered a small s
16. I could hear mine when it was out of the dash, but once in the dash you can only hear it if you are really listening for it. And if the engine is running you will never hear it.
17.
All of the Z1's that I have installed require you to flash the lights Twice in order to bypass. These instructions state that it only flashes Once. Also, a different part is available, pre programmed and less expensive. The DEI 452T.
It's a matter of timing, Two flashes will work and so will 3, but you only need one. There are a ton of people on here who have it working with 1. If you need 2, try "pretending" on one of them (either the first or second). If you get the timing down, I'll bet you can get it with one flash. As for the different part, I
18.
I work for a large data storage manufacturer in the mid west and we do the same thing to serial ata (sata) drives. We apply a "signature" to the drive and it is married to that particular unit. I don't know about Pioneer, but you can't simply unlock one of our sata drives. You actually need a special file to go out there and do it for you. Unfotunately, when customers do that, they automatically void their warranty and we charge them a butt load to unlock their drive. Food for thought if you have to go back to Pioneer.
very interesting. Thanks for the inf

PAC SWI PS

You might want to email PAC Audio, maybe they have changed the software, but it mimics the wired remote and plugs into the back of the unit. As far as the manual supplied with that unit, those are the "commands" he can send out. You can program your Volume UP button on your steering wheel to be Track down, or your Memory Up button to be source.... But that list is the only commands it can send out to the head unit. You might want to email him and see if there is a new version, adding new "commands" would be a software upgrade. He might not know about new commands he could send. M

PAC SWI PS

Your choices are: 1. Volume Up 2. Volume Down 3. Mute 4. Track Up/Seek Up 5. Track Down/Seek Down 6. Source 7. Preset Up/Disc Up 8. Preset Down/Disc Down 9. Band
21. I just tested this again this morning and according to the wife, with the speaker on the right side only I can have the volume at 3 bars with no echo. So I think that's where I will leave it.
22. I put the mic at the top of the driver's A pillar. And I set the voice to come out of the left speaker and the volume is 2 full bars and maybe 1/2 of the next bar, I was adjusting the volume and my wife said that at one volume level the echo was there and the next one down it was compleately gone. I might try the same experiment with the right speaker only some time.
23. I agree, it looks like there is plenty of room, I couldn't find a wiring harness or radio mounting kit, so you might need to get creative. But unless that thing is only 4 inches deep, I would think you could get it in there somehow.

Ipod Adapter

I emailed Pioneed support about this: I am looking at buying the new ipod adapter what is the difrence between the CD-IB100 and CD-IB100ii? And this was the reply from Pioneer: The only difference between the CD-IB100 and CD-IB100II is the connector was change to make it more secure with the iPod connection. Thank You, Lori Customer Service Representative
25. Actually all xboxes lock and unlock drives on the fly like that. And if you hack an xbox, you can use the new bios you hacked into your xbox to lock and unlock hard drives at will. It might work. I don't know if there is a password that has to be cracked (at least if there is the xbox programs used to lock and unlock drives don't seem to need them). The xbox thing might work. I'm still too chicken to try it with my Z1. :)
