Wow this says a lot about the guy. What is he even trying to say here? Any company can buy direct from Garmin, it is not like its a big deal.

Joe, ya search around for carputers. I had a friend who made one back when there was only a few video car systems available and GPS units were the hand held ones for hiking. So there is lots of info and parts out now. Here is a good link for info and parts. http://www.mp3car.com/

Interesting, the guys at Cobb seemed to be pretty cool. You may want to mention this to them and maybe they could pitch in a little help. Having an accessport built in to the AVIC would be very slick. Man a small amount of HW could really do some cool stuff here but we need to figure out that door.

Ya that makes sense. I am guessing that performance meter setup would kind of help out but I would imagine that a DAQ would meet you needs much better. I have not tried it but I can think of what would stop you from using the video in. This would cost more for the DAQ system and sensors but you could get all sorts of good info. Just an idea. Edit. You may want to check this thread out, especially the second page. There are a few links to automotive DAQ like Magden. OBDII/Dash/Car stats / possible programs?

So did you choose 16GB or is that just what you had. I am wondering because that is the listed limit in the manual. I would kinda like to know if that is really a hard limit.

I thought the system had a fuel logging feature that would calc fuel economy and let you download it. So I was just wondering (other then the cool factor) why you want to display speed, RPM, etc? I get displaying things like G-forces, boost, and other performance / tuning stuff but that seems more inline to have a DAQ system.

Cool, nice find. Ya I am guessing that not being in the documentation is why the CSR didn't know about it. A lot of tech support start by going over the documentation then gain knowledge as they go. And having to do some product documentation I know what a pain it can be. Actually I have felt Pioneer's documentation is pretty good compared to some I have seen.

Ya, when he told me $100 price difference is made up in his free shipping, I was like WTF. Man either price match or not but don't jerk me around. If this is how he deals with people before he gets a sale I wonder how bad it gets after. Good luck getting is shipped, returned, serviced or even charged correctly. I would say the extra $100 or so paid else where with good customer service is worth it, like paying vendor insurance.

So I used the "Report a lower price" link on their site to tell them about Online Car Stereo's price and they replied with "Sorry I offer free shipping, they do not'". With the listed 16GB limit getting those file sizes down would be a good idea.

Wow I didn't notice that before. I hope that is incorrect or changeable. This and the note "Operations may vary depending on the kind of an external storage device" makes me wonder if the USB port will be compatible with only flash/jump drives and not HDDs. I really don't know enough about USB to know if this is really concern. Edit: I am hoping this is one place they use there note at the end of that Appendix. "Specifications and design are subject to possible modifications without notice due to improvements."

Page 197 of the manual under "DivX compatibility" chart it has USB storage device and SD memory card on the right. "DivX files on the external storage device (USB, SD) cannot be played." Also the notes in the chart may be of some interest to you as well.

It cracks me up when people ask about bypasses before the units are available. It is like going to the Detroit Auto Show and asking about modifying the car on display.
