  1. Thank you, thats all I was looking for. All of that is legitimate. I didn't realize that a hotspot worked as a router and gave all devices created a shared network, I thought it just delivers a data connection. Who'da thunk it did much more(not me, but I am not a smart man). That is very neat. I guess I'm not as nice as you as I feel that as the driver it's my way or the highway for what is played in the front seats. Oh well, doesn't matter anyway as the NEX doesn't have wifi.
  2. Thanks for the input guys. I guess maybe some of the bitching on the forum here finally got to me. I have done some due diligence on the other models and I have decided to keep the NEX unit. Your input was greatly appreciated. Sorry for hijacking the thread.....Now we can get back to mobbing with our pitchforks. In terms of features not being available and getting a class action going over that, look into sony pulling features from the ps3 that were there at launch and then they decided they didn't like (otherOS). Nothing could be done about it. The device still served it's main purp
  3. Theedge, read the post above yours for the answer to your last question. And can you please elaborate on the "many areas that the unit could benefit from that type of persistant wifi" I am honestly curious/would love to see what I seem to be missing in my thought process and no one is offering up any SPECIFIC benefits. The more I think about it it seems superfluous to have wifi connection with avicsync and carplay. Both of these are meant to integrate apps/connectivity into the unit. What would be the benefit of having say a Netflix/pandora/youtube/browser app ON the receiver it
  4. Really? They suck that bad? Today is my final day to return the Avic unit and I am really on the fence right now about what to do. I was thinking of switching it up and getting the DNN991HD or the alpine X009-GM (9" screen). I have a few hours to decide. Biggest factors for me are the flac and .mkv playback options, from what I know none of the other units do that. Also the 1gb of RAM is supposed to make the 8000nex faster than all the other options out there. I think the kenwood UI is slick and looks nice. Worst case scenario I can return and go back to the avic if I don't like
  5. OK I get what you're saying, but.... If I had kids I wouldn't want to stream videos over Netflix/aTV ( both of which are probably going to buffer like crazy when driving in and out of cell service and probably drop the quality to less than SD) when I can plug in a DVD or SSD/SD card with pre-loaded HD video files so easily. AT&T and T-Mobile let you use data and voice at the same time. Verizon has talked about launching their voLTE to coincide with the iPhone 6 release with most reports pointing to the fact that iOS8 will probably enable the use of voLTE on the iPhone 5S/5C and al
  6. agreed. At this point I am pretty disappointed in the decision I made to get the NEX over the alpine or kenwood units I was looking at. Carplay was a major selling point when I decided what to buy.
  7. I've been thinking of running one of my extra raspberry pi's with a USB wifi adapter, but it will require installing a power inverter to get power to it all. Would be the same deal with the MX2. I don't see the purpose of having wifi for the unit itself. Is there something I am missing? It seems as if most of the stuff you want to use wifi for would run over your phone anyway....
  8. Was there an official statement that they are waiting for apple?
  9. Not as bad as the first video makes it seem but I have this feature on my 2014 x5 and I never use it, so not worth $635 to me when I already have a rear view and I can get a front view camera for my truck for ~$35.
  10. ha i don't think they do. at least it seems like they are starting to feel the pressure from their customers and are making an attempt to keep us filled in even if they aren't actually telling us anything. I figured they said "feature update" because the app itself will give those "features".
  11. As far as I know it's two separate "updates" but one is firmware for the unit and the other is an app for your phone. Carplay will be a firmware update for the unit. Avicsync (what the email is about) is an app that runs on your phone. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  12. Any chance of getting a shot of your NEX screen with the cameras running mee0130? That video is garbage.
  13. this is NOT for carplay... this is avicsync. So no not out of summer. Apples event is coming up. carplay is all about apple not pioneer, I guarantee it. I was angry while reading the email, because they suggest using inrix app or waze and as far as I know that needs to be used in app radio mode, so basically I should have just purchased the 4000nex and said forget built in NAV with traffic.
  14. Doh, I should check the levels as I have done a few hard resets since my initial install. I just didn't think to check because even after a hard reset most of my settings seem to stay in place.
  15. I haven't seen any issue like this with album art, but I had to reset because my station icons/art were all messed up in my presets for some reason. I think this had to do with sirius adding/changing some station numbers a couple weeks back though. I have more or less stopped listening to SXM because it is sooooo quiet it's crazy. I usually have the volume between 10-22 when listening to a disc/ipod/HDD source but I need to crank it up to 30-40 when on SXM.
  16. Try this: First I would power cycle the phone. Turn it off and on again and see if that helps. Next I would try: press: HOME BUTTON > SETTINGS (gear icon) > RESTORE SETTINGS > BLUETOOTH SETTINGS> RESTORE. This will restore your bluetooth settings on the head unit to factory. After completing that process I would power cylce the phone again, once it starts up go into bluetooth settings (settings icon > bluetooth) on your phone and tap the little i in the circle to get to the settings for the bluetooth device and select "forget this device" and then pair agai
  17. I had a 256gb SSD laying around that I use with an external enclosure powered off of USB only. I put a ton of music and some HD .mkv videos on there. Very nice.
  18. You probably don't have the parking wire connected properly. I had this issue with mine when I first set it up.
  19. Does everything else on the radio function as it should? I would bet my savings account it's not an issue with the NEX, but rather with the PAC adapter he used. It could need a firmware update. Hopefully that can get it sorted. read some of these reviews on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/PAC-RP5-GM31-Replacement-Interface-Vehicles/product-reviews/B009P8A044 Otherwise I would tell him to take the rp5 out and tell him you want the axxess ad-adbox1 and aswc-1 combo (you will also want the adbox harness that is specific to your vehicle, probably the AX-ADGM01). I have used that
  20. I want to buy an avic-8000nex, but I'm not sure where you buy it. I'm gonna buy it online as none of the 5 shops I visited in my area sell it. I see the unit on ebay going for under $1k and then there are the authorized online retailers that have it for $1399. With all the adapters and harnesses needed its ~$500 cheaper to go the ebay route. Assuming something went wrong and the unit needed to be repaired, what would be a ballpark price to have the unit serviced/refurbished/repaired? $150-300? Are most of you guys who are installing your own buying online?
  21. thanks, got the settings and what not what a relief. Now I talked to my installer this morning and he said that he moved the mute wire over and it went without a hitch, he also said that the parking break wire is grounded correctly. he said maybe there should be a switch on the parking break wire so that the unit sees the parking break wire going on/off.... would this help? Im going to make him retest the connection to the harness as that is what was suggested I just need to make sure this goes flawlessly becasue I have to leave for school in Florida tomorrow morning, so this is my o
  22. and then will I have the main menu with settings and all that jazz?? or am i just SPED and dont know how to access it? thanks.
  23. So I had my D2 installed in my Trailblazer SS this morning. Got the unit real cheap (refurb) and it was installed without a problem, love it, but it seems that the bypass did not work. I told my installer that he had to add a wire to the empty slot on the harness and then ground that and the parking break wire... now when I turn the car on it comes up with a warning saying that the parking break lead is not properly connected before it goes to the other warning. does that mean he did the bypass 100% wrong? or is it a possibility something came undone? also, after reading through the manual
  24. I just got a D2 from my cousin and I want to replace my factory navi in my '06 Trailblazer SS that already has after market speakers/subs and amps. So what im asking basically is.... if my speakers and subs are already connected to the stock HU with a LOC do i just need to install the D2 normally and swap the RCA inputs from the LOC to the outputs on the D2? if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
