  1. what your not taking into account is that heat affects all the HD,s differently. once my unit went south due to heat it would give me the freezes on mild days exactly as your describing. i did the bypass update and now its back to only frezzing at 100 degree days with no sunshade. once the unit gets hot theres a good chance that the boot sectors may become corrupt causing more frequent freezes at lower temps. still dought its heat try this for me. [you have the tool] next time it freezes pull out the HD put it in front of your AC duct for 3-5 minutes then pop it in and if it doesn
  2. it just needs to be programed rite take it back to the installer
  3. unless there giving out new HD,s that can handle heat better youll get another lick and a promise like the last update that raised the temp limit a hair.
  4. freezing here as well pioneer botched this Z2 when they used a cheap toshiba HD that cant handle the heat. free sunshade should have came with it lol
  5. 70 degree day is not the temp in your car. heat is the problem end of story. once it starts it gets worse and it wont work properly till you replace some boot files and installthe update like the one in the bypass section. do some rersearch next time your unit doesnt boot pull out the HD and put it in your hand and feel the heat. heat starts it and makes the HD buggy. laptop style HD,s dont handle heat well
  6. timvan next time your unit doesnt boot pull out the HD put it in front of your AC duct for 2-4 minutes then reinstall and it wil boot then you will have no thought other then heat. its heat end of story it gets worse as time goes by to where it wont boot at lower temps as well. the bypass fixed the freezing at lower temps with my unit
  7. the update alone fixes allot of the freezing problem the other thing to realize is that these HD,s fail at different temps mine lasted 100 degree plus days for a long time [2 months] with no shade but began to fail and then got worse.\ the remore HD is a good idea and i was thinking the same thing. theres also the 85C HD to consider
  8. the GAX will not help with freezing/overheating it will only be worse as it has a lower temp threshold. well i gave you the answer pioneer dropped the ball with laptop style HD,s that dont handle the heat being stuck inside a small case with little to no ventilation. we are on are own with this. because it was designed wrong. theres a so called patch coming out that may help but again if you hold the HD in your hand when the unit doesnt boot and feel the heat you will understand the flaws of this unit. if they would have built this with a remote HD lower in the dash it would have
  9. if youve read enough post you would know its a toshiba HD heat problem nothing more other then that pioneer has changed software/drivers once to try and fix the issue with limited positive results. please go buy a T8 and the next time your unit wont boot simply pull the HD out and put it in your hand, once you feel how hot it is you will understand completly. simply put the HD in front of your AC duct for 2-4 minutes and put it back in and your unit will boot. this is not theory or a suggestion replacing the HD will only get you another toshiba GACE HD that will vary from one to an
  10. for those with questions regarding this issue. it is a toshiba HD problem, it wil get worse as time goes and people\users are confused because there are two problems hardware and software. hardware meaning the temp threshold is lowered and possible as a few have reported the HD itself my have degraded. the problem with the software\drivers is its hard to tell if its read errors or software\drivers not letting the HD read properly. i thought my HD was toast but after the bypass new files it does just fine if you already have the new files and the problem gets worse you may want to t
  11. its a heat issue with your HD your on the threshold of it not booting properly.
  12. you dont need to sell it if youve read enough of the other post its clear its the HD that doesnt cut it. you can get a better HD with a higher temp threshold and your done without replacing the whole unit.
  13. yes if you read the whole thread in the 2 you posted with your problems youll get a good background on whats going on. mine did that like yours you need to do the bypass update ISO for one second the heat has different effects on each HD in its own way and how much heat the HD was subject too
  14. i have a feeleing more of them do it in hot weather then we suspect. laptop HD,s dont hold up well in heat.
  15. they had to of changed the temp with the update. my guess is its the HU that has the temp sensor. the only problem i have with it is its not shutting down the HD the HD is failing [kicking errors] before the unit will shut itself down.
  16. the heat at which they can withstand is update dependant the only way to know the real temp there failing at would be to have sensors letting us know hot the HU is actually getting. the other problem is once they start failing the temp threshold drops dramaticaly. it should be on the box you buy this in, or better yet they should give you a sunshade with every purchase lol. honestly we get the 85C HD,s and a sunshade i think we have this whipped. and im not really game spending another buck fitty on this unit for a HD when i know in a month or so ill be good for 8 months of c
  17. djmixmac my guess is only about 35% of ther units are affected lol [my guess only] but wouldnt that be funny if the 35% all lived in hot area,s.
  18. i think its because of gracenote. im probably wrong but i had a steve miller song the first song on book of dreams its busted up into 2 tracks but really its one song. at the end of or should i say transition into the next song i get the delay i thnk gracenote is just filing it as 2 tracks hence the delay.
  19. its not the bypass. its heat related. buy a T8 and the next time it wont boot slide the HD out its way to easy and just feel it in your hand it will be HOT cool it in front of the AC duct for 3-5 and throw it back in and it will boot. dont do it for me lol do it for the cause lol im hoping once this is settled and were noisey about this problem and get in toshibas and pioneers face and let people know that pioneer bought a bunch of bad HD,s from toshiba and they both will play the blame game but im hoping 1 of them will pony up to this. we all need to be on the same page and w
  20. im going to take the gamble with the HD and ill let ya know the only problem is a few other members mentioned the only HD,s they got to work were toshiba and the rest wouldnt work. i wont use the gax line and i would like to use the MK4036GAC but you cant find them they have the 85C threshold like the one HD you found. currently we use the GACE and they are avalible but im not going to buy another possible problem. I guess i should have refraised my boot sector idea. its like this [i know you know just making sure i know lol] the HD when hot throws errors right and left and when the HD
  21. just be assured its not the bypass causing it to freeze its purely heat
