  1. i get the same whine on my 03 sierra. ive been told its the ground from the cab or engine to the waxed frame that causes it in gm,s id like to see how you do then ill likely do the same
  2. am/fm should work no matter what the temp is. the library had heat issues due to the HD as well as booting.
  3. mine would not boot and i ran the update and it took first run. try burning at lower speeds, some people have said they needed to reboot the unit to get it to update properly. before i ran my update while the unit was froze i did pull the HD and get it real cold first
  4. eject the disc then reboot if that fails try reinstalling disc. i dont think anyone has failed completly
  5. it was 75f and had a song skip/play 95% and then go to another track. still think these HD,s are jacked
  6. after 4 weeks no freezes and today it was 65f outside and my unit froze, tried putting the HD in front of the ac for 3-5 min and that didnt work [my old standby that worked flawless on 100f plus days] burned the update to a cdrw installed the update cd to the z2 froze screen and all and in less then 5 minutes it was fixed and working properly. i looked at the files inside the update and it looks like they rewrote the operating system. this was not just a data from cpu to hd issue or it would have just been a few drivers. i still know heat had/has issues with the Z2 as this all star
  7. its no use using a HD that large, 40G is about all the file system can handle
  8. well pioneer released the update when the weather cooled down atleast here it did so i wont know till may\june 08. i wont install the patch till then. funny how pioneer waited to release the patch for heat when its not that hot anymore.
  9. try burning to a different disc and if its really hot where your at pull the HD out and cool it down then try the update. its probably more the disc then the heat
  10. i mentioned they may try and pull that [keeping fan on longer] but i have not played with it yet. i wont do the update till next summer when it gets hot unless i get a lockup soon. i havnt had a lockup since the bypass update cracking windows and using a sunshade so i dont want to jinx the luck yet. i know in the summer im facing trouble again though.
  11. since they say dont install the update unless your unit is freezing that would indicate that it is a hardware problem. if it was software they would install it in all units. without 100 degree days it will be hard to test. hope everyone that doesnt boot at mild temps has luck
  12. they wont, will not, never, nada spring for a HD lol thats why theres talk and talk only of a band aid patch. if it was something easy as software it would have been installed in the unit from the start. since there trying to hide a hardware problem there racking there brains on how to make this fly
  13. i talked to pioneer today as well and got that there a week out on the bandaid
  14. yes i think the new toshiba 85C HD is the answer. not the gax i am hoping that the bandaid update pioneer throws at us not only actually works but doesnt slow the HU down too much.
  15. believe it or not the avic z1-2 retains the heat a long time. [not that thats your case] like you mine froze on mild day,s too. ive had mine freeze in the 70,s but since ive done the last bypass update that raised the heat threshold and replaced some boot files mine only freezes on really hot days and it can be fixed by cooling the HD. [if i didnt see first hand that only cooling the HD fixes it i may have a different view] im not saying heat is the only culprit but i do know that these HD,s are throwing read errors when warm this has been confirmed we also have another guy who says
  16. yes it would. these units when hot will skip songs in the library and have map issues just shy of the freezing problems.
  17. so its a miracle that i cool my HD down in 3-5 min and it works perfect? when the HU stays the same temp? oh and i pull out my HD and its hotter then heck just shy of not being able to hold it in your hand which i would say is getting close to the 75C threshold of the toshiba. [on 100 degree or 100 plus days] this has everything to do with HD heat. if its not hot it works fine. so your theory has holes in it cause if it was a data transfer problem it would do it at any tempature. others have reported cooling there HD down and had there units work perfect like mine
  18. unless it gets hot again we will not even know if the update was any good or not. perfect timing for them the ole winter patch lol
  19. the HU has a temp threshold that shuts the HD down which was possibly in the update. there were also a few boot files added or changed and maybe drivers were updated. its heat dont get sidetracked its not frying our laptop style automotive HD,s are only rated to 75C your dash gets hotter then that. before your HD fails to boot but is getting hot it will skip songs in the library caused by to many read errors. on boot up when there are too many rear errors the HD will not boot causing the freeze. take your HD out with a T8 torx put it in fron of your AC duct for 3-5 minutes an
  20. the skipping in your library is from the heat throwing read errors from your HD its also what causes the freezing at the splash screen. once it starts it gets worse as your experiencing. mine was like yours i did the bypass update and it really helped and now the only time it freezes is on 100 degree days with no sunshade. the bypass does have some boot files in it so you may give it a try before you have to reimage your drive. with this unit a sunshade is a must and i leave my windows cracked.
  21. didnt by chance have any warm or hot days in your area did you?
  22. atleast that many, i made the same statement a while ago. oh there not repairing anything boxing it up sending it back NTF
  23. the problem is so widespread they know they have to save face. dont expect a sorry from them lol oh and dont expect a miracle either at best they may run a patch that turns the fan on more wa hoo!!!
  24. for 6 weeks tha hot california sun did nothing without a sunshade then a skip in the library here and there then 1 freeze then it broke loose and would hardly boot at all. did the bypass update and now it has to get really hot to freeze. with fall in place dont think ill see much more of the freezing library volume doesnt matter on the freezing wish you luck
  25. my only point is that 95% or better of the Z2 owners say heat brought it on. on a 100 degree day mine freezes till i cool the HD i have seen my HD degrade to not working on cool days like yours after getting too hot. your boot files or drivers are probably corrupt from the heat. have you done the bypass update? you know that electrical components dont like heat and it has been confirmed by doing read test on the these toshiba HD,s in the HU that they trow many read errors once hot and when i say hot it still meens well below the 75C threshold we have now. if you still think ab
