  1. they may have raised the temp limit in the HU with the update im not sure. i did notice like you since the update its got better. today parked in the sun 97f but using a sunshade it booted fine. A new HD will work though as long as it has a higher heat threshold. when i pull out the HD when the HD is hot almost to hot to hold in your hand [over 100 thats for certain] and i cool it and put it back in the HU that is still hot it boots fine and plays through the library. the reason the HU wont boot is because the HD is reading to many errors in the boot sector. and i wonder if just replac
  2. allot of HD or failing HD,s from pioneer contracting crappy units from toshiba
  3. mines only locked up once since the update, i honestly think all these hard drives have a different heat thresholds as a few of us our library gets jacked and the rest library is fine in the heat. and too confirm the heat in the HD is what is causing the library to jump around and not finish songs or record the whole song. ive cooled my HD when there were errors and then it worked perfect before any temp changes had taken place in the HU
  4. MK4036GAC has a higher temp [85C] over the GACE [the one were stuck with] wich i can find on ebay so far the GAC is only found in a few spots in europe if they even have them in stock, theres a few other websites that cant find the GAC. lol i hope you can prove me wrong then we all win as far as the GAX yes it works but the temp threshold is so low it wont help with my freezing issues. bridge4d found a promising HD with a 85C threshold id like to see if that one causes issues http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech ... oogle_base
  5. theres no dought its a heat thing and its a HD thing as well. some of you guys are lucky and your files will play from the library and quite a few others cannot play library music and the songs jump around.

you dont need taps theres a cheap faceplate installation kit and antenna ext at any of the large stereo dealers. i got mine at crutchfields if its a 06 classic make sure you cut out the metal bar in back so that your wires will not be jammed up against the fan in the back of the HU
  7. ya and the problem with toshiba is the 40g unit that you really want is not avalible and the 40g toshiba thats like ours will most certainly have the same failure rate. bud its definatly the HD get a T8 and the next time your unit freezes and wont start hold it in front of your ac vent till its cool, its going to be really hot at first. when its cool pop it back in and your unit will boot perfect.
  8. then show a little patience if some else is driving the car you started and left running in the middle of the street with the doors open lol its all good in all honesty all anybody did in this thread was try and help you next time we will be more prompt sir with less BS when doing your leg work for you
  9. lol if you were a part of your own thread this wouldnt have happened now would it. ??? sorry we went over you head there only 2 stores online that sell cheaper then 1500 bucks for new units. one site sells them for 1348 or something close and i believe there a scam so i didnt bite. [non pioneer approved] the other bad site is camerapro and they use a cheap price to lure you in and even if you call they will say its in stock and the price is good but the unit wont arrive and they will say order cancelled out of stock but they will send you anything else you may order its a typic
  10. the files in the bypass section worked great for me
  11. bridge4d found a sweet 40 HD for us with higher operating temp instead of the 35 bucks in ebay for the 40g toshiba gax these are 107 refurbed or 159 on average new . that would be cool if this 150 dollar fix took care of all the issues
  12. theres no dought about heat being the issue. now with your first freeze watch when its hot out and it freezes when you get it going again try playing something in your library and watch your music just dance around. sometimes it will play a song or two then the hard drive short of overheating starts reading incorrectly making your music jump around. when it does freeze put your hard drive in front of your ac vent for a couple minutes and watch it boot up perfect
  13. these hard drives pop out with a T8 in about 15 seconds or so we out to start a new thread BEST HARD DRIVE REPLACEMENT FOR Z1/Z2 but i think you nailed it
  14. no problem i never liked GM,s nav and i think there is an improvement with the z1 or2 over GM. GM was such a pain to get to do anything. love the new 07 denali sold them for a year when they first came out the power is something else. i went with a HD based nav for all the rite reasons our new infiniti,s have got great nav units that dont skip a beat that are hard drive based. im working on a cure for this it just sucks that i even have to. I know allot of GM rides are suffering this problem and i wonder if there cutting out the center beam behind the unit or just breaking the plastic
  15. sorry trying to make a little fun in light of this
  16. it didnt get hijacked at all, i bought from one of the cheap sellers like ebay i didnt get the warranty and this is what i have to put up with. as will madmonkey if he buys one. if you do buy one check out the warranty very well shipping cost and any other cost you may have to pay if no problems are found. my opinion is the avic is overpriced for a faulty unit and madmonkey hasnt bought yet and i hope he doesnt get burned by pioneer like me. these units cost way to much to be putting up with problems like these . if this was a rare problem so be it hey i got a bad unit but its not the cas
  17. it sucks having to pay so much, since mines a z2 i just did the free update in the bypass files section. the update does make a difference and mine only locked up once afterwards.
  18. look at the brights side in another 4-6 weeks it will be cold enough our units will work great till next summer lol we should get close to 7-8 months of trouble free operation no thanks too or from pioneer.
  19. hey 1 out of 3 is my guess thats it like or dont lol get in the freezing threads and youll see allot of people sending in there units to pioneer who send them back saying no problem found and quite a few people who get new units have the problem pop up again. reason is its people that live in hot areas, we all dont live in sunny California or Arizona florida ect ect and those of you who dont wont ever see a problem. the ones that do are having issues its plain and simple laptop hard drives dont do well in heat and the avic does not get rid of the heat once its trapped in the unit.
  20. there fine as long as you dont live in a hot area. theres quite a few of us dealing with the unit freezing while booting due to hard drives that are not holding up. this is the most commonly reported problem with the z1/2 and it has effected probably about 30-35% of the units that are out. its not really ready for prime time in my opinion.
  21. ya i found those too lol i was hoping i found the wrong ones. allot of them are even more almost double that for 15g. just for giggles i may try the 40g toshiba gax line and see if the heat threashold on ours have been lowered with the heat they have been subject too.
  22. i havnt dug into it enough to justify remote or just better cooling. if i did do remote it would just be a ribbon ext once you take off the HD faceplate there is a nice little gap that may be used. i still need to dig more.
  23. last time i messed with acronis to copy a hard drive i used the boot disc and copied my image before windows booted. good chance thats your problem
  24. are trying to do it through windows or the acronis boot disc
