rharms77
I tried plugging in my mp3 player to the 3.5mm jack on the front, and no luck. I have the Avic D3 set to Aux2 Video, as its either video or off. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or havent done something. Please help!
installermarc
Are you using the correct cable? The D3 uses a different plug configuration and if you don't use the Pioneer cable (I forget the model number) you won't get any audio at all.
rharms77
Oh I didnt know there was a special cable for the front input. I just used a generic 3.5 to 3.5 plug i got at an electronics store.
HiFiSi
Yeah, the pin that goes in there has 4 contacts. Left audio, right audio, video, and ground. The configuration of where on the lack those are is different than in standard mini-jack av cables IIRC.
rharms77
can anyone suggest a cable then?

rharms77
Thats the plug that goes in the back, isnt it?
cntrylvr79
Strange I've never had a problem using a regular stereo 1/8" cable on the front jack of the d3.
rharms77
Yeah, thats why I'm wondering whats up. It used to work, but now it wont.
HiFiSi
It depends on what you're plugging into it... some pin locations match, and some don't.
rharms77
You are referring to the front AV jack, correct?
mabbaticchio
Mine works with a standard 1/8" cable on my iphone.
WhiteBird00
The Pioneer connector is somewhat non-standard for video use but appears to have been designed specifically so that an audio plug will work. The video signal has been moved from the ring (just below the tip) to the base of the sleeve (closest to the insulated grip). This maintains the same configuration as a 1/8" stereo mini plug - left audio channel is on the tip, right audio channel is on the ring, and ground is on the sleeve (the rest of the barrel). When you plug a standard 1/8" stereo plug into the front of the D3, the audio will work normally and the video channel will be grounded.
HiFiSi
So basically, if you want a male-to-male mini jack connector to work, you're gonna have to do some cutting and splicing for everything to work right.

You would have to swap the right audio and video wires on the end that plugs into the D3. For stereo audio (without video), a standard cable will work without modification.
