  1. Yes, other than navigation, the two are identical. In fact, they both come with the same owner's manual. You can add the KNA-G510 navigation module to the DDX-512 to end up with the same capabilities as the DNX5120. The only real difference is that you'll want to put the external nav module someplace where you can reach it since it uses a built-in SD slot to load updates.
  2. Okay...you really got me with that one. I was thinking that saying Jungle Book was a cover-up for what you were really watching. Nebraska is one of only five states that not only outlaws video visible to the driver but also the content of video anywhere in the vehicle that is visible from outside. I thought maybe you were watching a porn movie - something like "Jungle Boink"?
  3. BS!!! Next you'll tell us you narrowly escaped the death penalty! I assume you were in Nebraska since you were going to work... Nebraska Code - Section 60, Paragraph 60-6,287 provides that having a viewing screen placed so that it is visible to the driver while operating the vehicle is a Class V misdemeanor. Maximum penalty for a Class V misdemeanor is $100 with NO imprisonment. There is no minimum penalty. Laws in the other twenty states that currently ban video in view of the driver are substantially similar. Perhaps there's something else about this traffic stop that you
  4. You are if you're making a lot of noise driving through a residential neighborhood at 2:00AM. Your rights end where someone else's begin.
  5. He was busy trying to show that he's not an idiot!
  6. So, $500 for a D3 with the bluetooth module and PAC SWI-PS would be reasonable? I'm replacing it with a Kenwood DNX5120.
  7. Memory is the second thing to go...I can't remember what the first thing is.
  8. No, the plate acts as a ground plane for the antenna and does affect reception. You can use the antenna without the ground plane and sometimes you'll get decent reception anyway but you'll get better reception with it than without it.
  9. Actually, I got mine because it was separate units. Instead of the SC-C1 tuner, I connected my existing Sportster 5 to it through the new SCV-DOC1 dock. It allows me to use Sirius through the AVIC just like the SC-C1 tuner would but I can pull out my Sportster and put it on the bike on weekends - no need for a second subscription. The dock and Sportster hide away nicely in my console box where I can remove it easily but it's not hanging around on the dash looking like an add-on.
  10. Yes, that's exactly what it would do. And yes, that's exactly what you want. The parking (running) lights go on whenever you turn on the headlights (or when they go on automatically if you have automatic headlights). That means it's dark out so you want to use the night display.
  11. Man, no kidding...I sure wouldn't want to be that manager or installer. And you're right, the fact that they probably had the owner sign a release document that stated "in making this settlement, we admit no wrongdoing, etc." doesn't make much difference in the eyes of the public. Once something like this gets out on the internet, everyone assumes the settlement was an admission of liability rather than just a business decision. That's where their biggest mistake was - not settling before it got out of hand.
  12. Clearly you haven't been involved on the business side of one of these situations. I work for a company that owns and operates gas stations. You wouldn't believe some of the bogus claims for carwash damage that come through our office! But many of them get settled because the cost - not just in dollars but in bad publicity - is less than fighting. Just the legal fees for preparing for a case like this will run $20K. So, $12K (especially when mostly paid by insurance) is a reasonable business decision without any admission of liability. In this case, I don't know if CC was right or wro
  13. No, CC has decided that it would cost more to fight than to settle, as often happens with these types of claims.
  14. There used to be y-cable adapters that allowed the older satellite radios with separate satellite and terrestrial antenna inputs to work with the newer single cable antennas. I would think you could use one as a splitter to connect two tuners to a single antenna (if you can find anyone still selling them...) EDIT: found one at http://store.xmfanstore.com/splitter.html. But HiFiSi is correct - you really shouldn't cut the micro-coax cable of an existing antenna.
  15. The merger has received DOJ approval but not FCC approval. The latest word is that the FCC will not make a decision before mid-May - if even then. The original merger agreement expires May 1st so the FCC strategy seems to be to hope it will die if no decision is made. However, IF the merger goes through, you won't need a new tuner for some time - if ever. The plan is to merge some of the channels where there is duplication (e.g. the decades channels) and then mix the remaining channels in a variety of subscription plans. Initially, you will be able to get the mix of XM and Sirius progr
