googalash
Hello, Just picked up a Z1 today going to be installing it tonight. Anyway I would love to be able to pull the drive and put a larger one much like I have done to xboxs and Tivos for ppl. So just curious if anyone has had any luck yet cracking the password. palacios
06PSDDually, It was just a joke. It's not like I wake up every morning and have a mission to read everybody's posts just to find errors. We're all human, we all make mistakes. I didn't mean to insult you. I too would love to load this thing with 20gigs of MP3s but like edrock200 said, that's only gonna happen if we can migrate our 30gig HDD to a bigger one. charliex
forget the xbox its not going to work, anything the xbox can do with the drive a PC can so the software would exist on the pc too, the passwords on the xbox are sniffable and can be regenerated. swap the powered up drives ith a pc, use a modded ide cable to split power. docluv01
Does anyone know what exact model hard drive is in the unit? I think I recall reading that it was a toshiba drive. If thats the case, they do have some backdoor passwords that toshiba uses to unlock drives. But, it depends on the model.

What I can tell you is if you remove your HDD and install a new, blank drive the Z1 will lock it for you. I suspect the following: If you need to order a new HDD from pioneer they will send one that is unlocked and preloaded or is locked with a default password. When you install the drive, the Z1 will either perform the initial lock (if unlocked) or use the existing password to unlock and change the drive password to whatever your Z1 uses. I suspect it does this so it can use a custom password for each Z1 instead of one generic password for all units.
toy
this is what I think, if enough people complain about not being able to upgrade the HDD, pioneer will release a firmware that allows you to copy HDD or at least a factory upgrade option. Pioneer won't deal with the support nightmare of people hacking their HD's or the potential lawsuites that would follow. If this gets hacked it will be purely a home-brew operation. That being said, home-brew operations aren't necessarily bad, many develop into full blown apps that are as good as or better than their retail conterparts, for example XBMC.
