bigolyt
Might be a newb question but I'm kind've a newb. My buddy wants to sell me his brand new Avic Z2 for $550. Seems like a good deal, but want to know the differences between the models. I've read on here "how to make a Z2 a Z3, so whats the diff? lol
TBSS
The Z3 just has updated maps and Gracenote database, buy the Z2 then get a harddrive from garrettoomey http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14915 and you will have a Z3 for alot less.
Task514
and the difference between Z1?
jwq
and the difference between Z1? Basically, the hardware of the Z1, Z2 and Z3 is identical, and any Z1 or Z2 can be updated to the latest level of the Z3.
JPerkmr954
i was told that gettin a z1 with an update tho effective has a very slow loading time... is this correct?

djmixmac
I noticed a slightly faster bootup time going from my Z1 ---> Z3 update via the pioneer DVD.
NastyStang
Does the Z3 have faster boot times than the Z2?
borgeklungerbo
I noticed a slightly faster bootup time going from my Z1 ---> Z3 update via the pioneer DVD. So where did you get the update from? And how did you exactly do it?

I would actually talk to garrett on here...i just bought his update and the transaction was amazingly smooth...his option is definitely better than going the pioneer route in my opinion
matt23
Does the Z3 have faster boot times than the Z2? it is definitely -slower- on the Z3 at least in my experience. How much longer? I never timed it exactly but it's easily 10 seconds longer maybe(?)

I never timed it exactly but it's easily 10 seconds longer maybe(?) I completely disagree with Matt23. 10 seconds is a really long time. Z1, Z2, and Z3 all take about the same time to boot (give or take 1-3 seconds). A 5400 rpm drive does speed the boot time by a couple of seconds...
