cars and AVIC-Z1

Recommended Posts

I am going at this backwards. I am looking at getting a new car, but no vehicle has what I want in a navigation system and the z1 has exactly what I am looking for. I am trying to find out what cars this unit will fit into. I see that some people have them in trucks and suvs, I'm just looking for a sedan that it fits into. I've spent the last 5 hours on crutchfield's and circuit city's websites trying to change different vehicles to find on that fits, but no luck. If anyone could give me a general idea of what I should be looking for I would be very appreciative.

Thanks

I believe it will fit in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. I will be attempting the install within a month or so.

I bought a din replacement kit from Scosche to match the original curve of the dash. It'll give me 2 dins in place of the stock headunit. Color matches well and all. Bought if on ebay for about $15 shipped.

I bought a wire harness from another seller on eBay for about $12 shipped.

Now just price searching and the like. I'm seeing if I can score 4 units at less than $1400 each retail. I may have Brandsmart USA doing it since they have agreed to beat the price of 6ave who's offering $1525/piece. Both are licensed Pioneer retailers.

EDIT: A friend thinks it'll fit in his Acura TL (not sure what year, however it was the previous body style). He too is going to be buying a unit and installing w/in the month. The guys at BestBuy told him the D2 would fit so I assume the Z1 will fit as well.

Well I would say that the choices are endless. You will first have to narrow down by other featues and then people can be helpful. How much are you looking to spend on the car? 4-door compact or maybe 4 door full size sedan? 2-door?? Any little bit of information like this will help.

well I'm looking for a 4dr full size sedan, leather, and sunroof. I'm more looking for the idea as to whether or not an '06 or '07 would support this. Crutchfield said they don't have anything that will work with an '06 or an '07. They said to look for a japanese car with a double din sized headunit. I'd like to be able to narrow down the list of cars to a general idea of brand (honda, acura, etc.) and if the new '06s or '07s work.

Any of the 04ish and newer Ford Crown Vics, Mercury Grand Monkeys and Lincoln Town Cars have double din units.

Somewhat cheap, very nice full sized, quiet, easy to work on reliable vehicles. These cars are the oldest running least modified line of cars still in production. I think they are the last cars with an actual frame. I really miss my crown vic it was a really nice car.

I believe the Chevy impalla also fits the Z1

But I'm not as big of a fan of the new chevy line up (except for the corvette) :)
I know the Subaru WRX does and the Ford Focus line also has a double din dash. I think it is possible in some Hondas also. I have seen some people here that have the Z1 in a new Honda.
BEWARE OF THE 06 ZX5 install.

It's relatively easy, BUT the way the thing mounts isn't as straightforward as it would seem.

YES, it's a double-din BUT there's no double-din mounting system available for the 06 ZX5 focus (I just installed a D2 into the wife's car) and I used a 2005 Mustang Metra Kit with 4" screws to hold it in place rather than the 1/2" screws that mount the original factory unit in place. Don;t worry, the screws are hidden bedind the fascia... looks great even though it's a D2. I do know that the Z1 is a PERFECT FIT into a 2005 Mustang cause I've got one of those as well
Why don't you check out the nissan altima 2007? Comes out in a few weeks

http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/NissanAltima/Photos2007.htm
Because the Z1 won't fit in the Altima.

I gues they don't know it will fit Nissans.

I took a look because a friend has the Maxima and wants to get rid of his radio. He has the Info screen on top. Any one know if there is a aft mkt bezel for the MAX.

I really appreciate all the help that everyone is giving. I just can't believe that I wasted so much time on crutchfield and circuit city's sites and never checked out pioneer's....

Waiting for the '07 altima just to see their new navigation and everything, but the HD feature is really tempting.

I have them in both of my Acuras. NSX and RSX-S. I had an Acura RL for a while and until the Z1 nothing could beat the built-in RL NAVI.

I think a fair number of cars can do double din with the right dash adapter. You could go to your local car audio dealer and they will tell you if it will fit in the cars you are interested in....Good luck.....Steve
