tombonneau
Unless I'm an idiot, I was just at Best Buy and realized that in addition to the $70 Pioneer Interface you also need another $70 Sirius tuner to get Sirius to work with the Z110. Is this correct? $140 out of the gate? I had a $75 gift card and was just gonna buy the Interface on a lark for my install and do a 30-day Sirius trial, but I can't really justify $140 in equip even if half is subsidized by a gift card. Am I correct in thinking I need both of these pieces?
paule1019
Yes you have to have both items. They do run about $80 a piece. If you go to xm you only have to have 1 piece.
tombonneau
Yeah, that seems to me to be a lot more reasonable -- combining the tuner/interface all into one device. Oh well. I'll just have to hold out in hopes of a Pandora and/or Slacker firmware update. Doubt it will happen though ...
bwolfe
Do you get more info on the screen when you go this route? I have the old Sirius adapter for the D3 and it only showed one line of trunicated text. I was more concerned as to if you get Artist and Song on the map screen. CamelTowing
No, the info shown on the screen is exactly the same as the ancient sirius tuners. Only way to get artist and song title is to get the XM tuner activated and add the best of sirius. Unfortunately, you're up to almost $20 a month that way
tombonneau
So can anyone compare XM vs. Sirius with this unit? Sounds like I might be better off with the XM tuner/interface and leave it at that. Also, Sirius vs. XM in general? One better than the other? I read somewhere XM had better sound? CamelTowing
I've had both. Sirius sounded better in my car. Display is much nicer on XM. About 2/3 of the stations overlap now that the companies have merged so it really depends if you are looking for something in particular like Stern (sirius) or baseball (xm) or if you are looking for something else in particular and don't want to pay for one of the 'best of' packages
tombonneau
From everything I've read the display thing sounds like the biggest difference.
CamelTowing
Unless you are a baseball fan because its not available on Sirius. Or if you are a Stern fan and don't want to pay $20/month for him on XM instead of $13/month for him on Sirius
josney
you can check out www.fatwallet.com and do a search for XM radio. if you work it right and get the right service rep, they will do $77 a year subscription. these companies are trying to add and keep as many customers as possible. i was paying $20 bucks a month for "best of" and called to cancel. the rep was quick to offer a reduced rate to keep me. i can only guess that it will work with new suscribers. give it a shot. i love my XM. scurry
I saw on Crutchfield that they have the Sirius adapeter for $119, XM for $
