Thumper88
Just now read this press release... new features like Auto EQ Measurement and the Sonic Center Control which enable users to precisely calibrate the sound field in the car, have been added to both new navigation units. How does the Auto EQ work? Does it use the bluetooth microphone? How many bands does it control, just the 8 band graphic equalizer or separate from that one?
VBLUE42
This is interesting. I completely missed that in the info for the new units. I will find the answer though.
VBLUE42
The info that I have is that the Auto EQ will likely NOT be included with the upgrade software for previous units.
bit_bucket
Actually the Auto EQ features will not be found on the Flagship navigation units, i.e. the Z130BT, or X930BT. This is only a feature found on the new non-navigation headunits and will be facilitated by the use of an optional mic CD-MC20. You can confirm this by looking at the audio sections of the individual units on Pioneer's site. This feature is not listed on the new Nav units but is on the new non-Nav units. This is info I gleaned from research from Crutchfields and other sources, so YMMV.
VBLUE42
It says in the press release for the new navis that it will have this feature. So one of them is wrong. No big surprise that Pioneer would blunder its marketing however.
bit_bucket
My apologies. I stand corected. I just read the new manual for the Z130bt and it indeed has the Auto EQ. The interesting part is that the mic you purchase plugs into the miniplug on the iPod cable. This leads me to believe this may be made to work with older models unofficially of course. Granted the new units use a new iPod cable, but perhaps this is backwards compatible. Wouldnt that be interesting. Thoughts?

JonV
I Asume this will be an update for the F10/20BT like the Z series.
VBLUE42
I think it is safe to assume that.
cpkdude
If auto-eq is part of the new architecture, how difficult would it be for them to add auto-sound-level? That's the only thing I miss from my stock Mazda 3 radio. Hell, on the Mazda the mic is already built in, if there was only a way for after-markets to access it. whalepirot
why would you want to auto EQ anything!!! just use your ears. that is the best tool you will ever have. [/quote]Along those lines, everyone's has different preferences and everyone's ears have a uniquer frequency response curve. Even our two ears differ! Having 'played' with this early in my audiophile years, I run FLAT on my superb audio system in my special room. Obviously the car presents other challenges, with high ambient noise and small physical size. Having imported and sold Japanese audio gear, I learned they love to sell us on gadgetry more than hi Q. Almost universally in audio gear, they are on opposing ends of the spectrum and equalizers are notoriously dirty. We used to speak of the ideal amplifier as a wire with gain, i.e., no circuitry to foul up the waveforms. To each his own.
