cntrylvr79
The 5900 looks real nice. A hell of a lot better than the 5700. It's about time pioneer revamped that thing.
dj2ndnature
Isn't the "smart routing" part of the Z1??? So what's the difference with the Z2 then, maybe it's a little better? I hope they come out with an update for us Z1-ers Here's Pioneer's Press Release http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 65,00.html
stephen293
Anybody notice the different iPod layout on the 5900? They use a picture similar to the iPod click wheel. If that works for the Z2 that's great and all, but considering that Pioneer is still saying iPod connection is through the CD-IB100II I'm assuming it's still going to be slow as hell..? Yea and the only thing they could've possibly done to an existing "learning" feature is improve it.
Rodge
Does anyone have a confirmed cost on these? now that the Z-1 is relatively cheap, I wonder if it's worth the buy.... Also, What are the "upgrades"? I didn't see really anything so far on what I've read

ntrprize
The Z2 seems to have a better display than my Z1. What I mean by that, is in the demo photo, you see grass and what looks like buildong outlines. On my Z1, all I get is tan, like there is nothing on the sides of the roads but a dirt field. dj2ndnature
Do u live or drive in a major city? I live in ATL and when I'm downtown I see buildings and grass in 3D. Huge difference then when I'm 20min outside the city at home.

madmanfrommars
Those 3d maps look awesome. IT would be nice to get those on updates for the previous systems.
barfer
sense it is a software base I am sure you can upgrade ur z1 to the new z2 once the DVD upgrade is out. It least I am hoping so. Guess at the end of April we will all see about that.
whtcrxghst
Pioneer is releasing a new ipod cable that works with the D3 so I assume it works with 5900 as well. It transfers video and it is supposed to be "full speed" similar to the alpine cable. The Z2 is only a software update from the Z1 so it will not use this cable, it will use the CDIB100 or 100II Anybody notice the different iPod layout on the 5900? whtcrxghst
You already have them if you live in one of the Detailed Metro Map cities--just zoom in more Those 3d maps look awesome. IT would be nice to get those on updates for the previous systems.
dwhitley0381
Having collected the laurels for Car Tech's Best of CES last year with its Avic-Z1 in-dash navigation and multimedia system, Pioneer is using this year's show to launch the Avic-Z2. The Z2 builds on the basic design of the Z1 and offers a range of upgraded features: a learning capability, which remembers roads frequently traveled by the driver and incorporates these preferences into suggested routes when applicable; a smart routing algorithm that takes into account factors such as posted speed limits and the number of turns to reach the destination, to give a more accurate estimate of journey time; and lane information for 50 areas of the country, which advises drivers of the correct driving lane they should be in for passage through interchanges and exits. (Credit: Pioneer)Like that in the Avic-Z1, the Z2's hard drive-based navigation system also integrates XM NavTraffic (a separate XM subscription is required), which provides real-time information on traffic flow and accidents. The Z2 also features advanced voice recognition, brand icons for retail stores, 3D icons for points of interest, and text-to-voice technology, which reads aloud road names as well as turn directions and distances. On the digital media front, Z2 ups its amount of media storage space to 10GB, while retaining the ability to play DVDs, CDs, MP3 discs, and iPod input. The Avic-Z2 will appear in stores in April with a price tag of $2,200.
