Troyfrezze
In regards to the new traffic tunner for the Z130 that replaces the prior unit from Microsoft..I understand it does traffic, but does it do anything else like the older unit did? IE: Weather, Movies and so on, or is simply only a traffic system?

cooldude117
What are the limitations for it geographically? Mine just says no service available, so right now it's a useless box stuck behind my dashboard.

Mine just says no service available, so right now it's a useless box stuck behind my dashboard. Assuming you are in the US, I believe the service is carried via Clear Channel's FM station's RDS data. In which case, the following link to a Gamin description should also apply to Pioneer (see the cities listed at the bottom).:Garmin RDS Traffic
cooldude117
No, I'm in Canada and that's probably why it won't work. Does the same unit show RDS data for FM stations? I haven't seen any yet and if it does do I need to turn it on?

There must be some reason it isn't officially sold there. As far as RDS text, I see station info on FM, for sure. Can't say if song titles and other info i displayed, I never listen to FM. Back to RDS & TMC (traffic), from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia....ates_and_Canada) Clear Channel Communications and Tele Atlas have a TMC service called Total Traffic Network (TTN), using FM RDS in 77 US cities and three Canadian metropolitan areas.[16] These services are both subscription, and were initially available to many in-car navigation units via an expansion module purchased separately Which makes me wonder if the "free" traffic only applies to the Pionner product in the US. Also makess me wonder if this will always be "free" in the US.

I've seen RDS working in some other vehicles, so there are stations here that send that signal out. The Garmin link you posted earlier says that European customers have a lifetime subscription included in the purchase of that tuner. American customers have one year included and it's $60/yr after that. No mention of Canada, so I guess we're screwed like always. lol, oh well, we'll get everything eventually. onesickGS
i just got a z130bt so havent got a chance to try it out. but lets say you are putting in a destination, how does the traffic tuner work? will it tell u that u are going to hit traffic if u go that certain direction or do u have to wait until u get near and it would tell u? also, does traffic automatically show up on your maps when u do not have a destination set? hopefully im clear
Foques
curious about that as well. I'll be installing mine tomorrow.
TypeS
Will it try and re-route you around the traffic jamb? The old XM NavTraffic did an outstading job of this..
