Z1 Installed in F150 (Review and Help Needed for PAC SWI-PS)

Recommended Posts

I'll double check in the z1 manual, but that was the only place the plug would fit in the back of the z1. The words "digital out" were next to the hole on the back of the z1, so that's why I called it that.

I'll check that and then redo the programming. If that doesn't fix it, then I'll head to the CC install shop and ask for a favor. I don't have a volt meter and am really not wanting to buy one.

Actually after that I would contact PAC, they got back to me real quick and I had an email conversation during the day with one of the tech guys when the color code and OEM connector specs were all wrong for my lincoln and the guy was real helpful.
The PAC doesnt plug into the back of the HU itself, it plugs into a "headphone jack" that is on a pigtail on one of the wiring harnesses that plugs into the back of the HU
umm...do you know which harness...there is three to pick from and I'd love to know which one I'm after before hunting through the dash.

It'd make sense though. I mean the hole was labled "digital out" which doesn't make sense. I mean the PAC is sending an electronic signal to the HU and it needs to recieve it, not have a port that is sending stuff out.

F150 Duke,

The connector should be brown also. When you have it working would you mind sending pictures of the install? I ordered my PAC SWI PS for my F150 and should have it in next week. Having a picture of one hooked up would help me in my install.

Hello NavyGuy,

I'm actually not going to fix the sub connection on the truck until I get the BT unit in.

That way I can install the BT unit, fix the PAC, fix the sub connection (which is getting annoying b/c now I have static coming out of it), and then tidy up some wiring that is rattling around.

However, here are some links to installing the Z1 in an F150. This is what I used and I identified each "difficulty" along the way throughout these threads.

F150Duke,

Thanks for the information, but I already have the Z1 installed in my F150. I was asking about the PAC SWI-PS, but don't worry about it. My SWI-PS came in today and I have already installed it and it is working like a champ. I hope you get yours going when all of your stuff comes in and you install them. If you need anything let me know.

Oops... Sorry about that. I thought you meant the basic install. Yeah I just feel lazy and only want to have to open the dash one more time. Any hints on the pac install? So does it reall plug into a brown connector on one of the z1 harnesses?

Yes it does. It was kind of tight for me because I have the original HU inside the dash. So once I found the light blue/wire I was good. I tapped the lines going to the headlight flasher for pwr and gnd. Then I programmed it. It is a little of delay time but I am cool with that. I will admit programming it took about three times, because I was working outside in the sun here in Texas. I do not have a garage just a carport. Hope this helps.
Woah you have the Z1 and the OEM HU in? How did you pull that off?

Duke
There is alot of space in the dash. The OEM HU is inside the dash faced up. I had to keep it to run the OEM entertainment unit.

QUESTION #2: I wired the speed sensitive volume wire for the F150. How do I turn this feature on, on the headunit?
The vehicle speed wire (VSS) is not for that feature. That's not something that the Z1 does. The VSS sends a signal to the computer in the Z1 so that it knows how fast the car is going in real time, not just off of the relatively slow sampling rate from the satellites. This allows the unit to navigate using the 3D mode, giving it all of the inputs that it can have, thereby making it as accurate as possible.
