ranger098
So if IOS9 is talking about wireless Carplay, will we be able to get that with our NEX units? I thinking maybe we will need some new piece of hardware in our units?? Whatchall think...
493008
If you mean current units, Pioneer has already said no. Wireless CarPlay requires WiFi, and there is no WiFi hardware in them.
kelkin
In theory they could probably come out with a USB wifi adapter or officially support an existing one and support them with a firmware update but I doubt they would since it's just an excuse to sell yet another new model before they even finished delivering on the promises of the existing ones. But they won't. By everything we have seen the 4100-8100 are last years units with a software update that doesn't play nice with upgrading to it. If they won't even provide a software update, what makes you think they'll provide a dongle? No the 8200 will have wifi, and then the 8300 will have a better display and then the 8400 will include both.
douger
Does Pioneer have your money? No, it's not likely. The best one can hope for from Pioneer is that they'll produce a feature that they promised when they introduced the model. And once the next model comes out, they'll forget they ever made the one that's in your dash.
VBLUE42
The standard rule of thumb with Pioneer is if fhe unit doesn't suport a feature upon its initial release, it never will be added with an update. They will always save the "next big thing" for the next unit they release. So, to answer your question, No!

Frankly in my opinion we are all spoiled by apple since they seem to be the only company that gives a crap about updating products that already launched.

So, to answer your question, No! carplay didnt come on the nex versions at first but there was a software update to make it work. im not saying they will add wireless carplay just pointing out that your statement is not true. VBLUE42
It is true. The NEX were designed with Car Play in mind. Car Play was still in beta when the NEX were relased and that is why it want avaiable on release.
likeawind
Doesn't seems like we will get Wifi Carplay even in IOS
nolarola
Doesn't seems like we will get Wifi Carplay even in IOS 9 No. Won't happen on these units, ever. One, because it'd require a wifi adaptor, and two, because pioneer doesn't add new features after a radio is released because they have a stupid sales model.
likeawind
I have switched over to Alpine ILX-007, I believe it has wifi chip on board so I was really hoping to get wifi carplay.
