acc and key on

hey do u think u could hook up the red power wire to the acc and the key on power???

 

what im thinking is when u go to acc the hd powers up but when u go to start the car it shuts off and powers again, so if i hook up the acc and key on to the red wire on the hd, will that be fine or i can burn the wire or something???

 

i would just connect it to key on but would like to turn car to acc and still have the hd on which would be on acc

Well virtually anything electronic is going to shut down when you crank the starter unless it's wired directly to the battery.

 

That's the only way I can think of doing what you want to do. Wire both the constant and switched power wires directly to the battery and install a switch on the ACC power wire to the unit?

 

Unless I'm missing something. No offense, but your question is a bit garbled and hard to understand.

If you connect both those wires to a switched source (like the acc power wire coming from the ignition) the unit will reset/lose memory every time you turn off the car. And you don't want that.

 

If you hook them both up to a constant power source, you will not be able to turn off the unit ever unless you install a switch on the ACC power wire from the unit.

jokers000, you can hook-up the acc wire from the radio to an ignition source. the ignition stays "on" when you crank the starter and if shuts off when you turn your car off.

anyway

 

i want to have the unit to stay on when cranking over to start, now when i turn the car one click down, turns off the car but acc is still on and would like to have the unit to stay on til i turn the key off completely

 

now i was thinking to do that, but will have to have the ignition source connected to the acc together and connect it to the red wire on the hd

 

but when connected together will have any effect on the wires or something

 

u know when u turn the key to ignition it powers ur fuel pump and lights and all that.....that power wire connect to the acc is what im trying to say

Connecting the 2 wires will solve your problem of your radio powering off during cranking however, if you connect your acc and ignition/source wire to the red wire on the D3 harness, you are then connecting the two positions. You will no longer have an acc position because when you click it to the acc position, 12+ will go to your radio then also go to your ignition/source wire thus creating a short. I tried to do this in my first car (86 ford escort) and found out the hard way. It may be different in your application as the escort was a POS. Give it a try and let us know.

could be done with a retained accessory power relay setup. don't remember the specifics, but the circuit would basicly keep the acc wire energized to the radio until you shut the key off AND opend a door. i do remember you need 2 relays and 1 diode to make it work. i am sure you could check on me-mag.com forums, there might be more info on something like that over there.

You could do that, but that still didn't answer his question. I believe he wants to start up the car without having the unit go through the startup cycle again. Joker>You can only have one or the other. Either have the unit stay on forever cuz there is no way you can turn off the unit when leaving the car "IF" you connect the two wires, ACC and Power wire together to the 12+V constant wire of the car, bypassing the ACC.

 

The reason why there is a hicup when starting up the car is because at the back of the key switch on your steering wheel are series of connections that makes contact to series of wires. When the key turns, it will turn the switch to those wires thus making contact. In between contact, there is a delay. ACC turns on accessories and is connected to a fuse to the battery. Ignition on turns all power in the vehicles engine, fuel pump, etc. Turn one more and starts the car, which fires the alternator to send spark to the sparkplug, which basically has no power from the battery. Therefore, there are no volts going to the deck and other areas, needs 12 volts constant to the alternator to start the car, no interference.

 

Solution, you can connect a seperate battery with/or a capacitor and a switch to it to your deck. Using the switch to control the power going to your deck. JUST A THOUGHT.
