In Topic: Z130BT - Any Regrets?

22 August 2011 - 01:42 PM

As an installer I deal with a lot of indash navigation units. By far I like the Z130BT better then the Kenwood 7180, Clarion 501, Alpine 910, among some JVC units, etc. The navigation does do some weird things sometimes but overall I am happy with it, and most customers are as well.

The Clarion 501 has a lot of problems (especially if you're using it for an extended period of time) with the internal memory running out and freezing the entire unit.

The Kenwood unit's interface is SLLLLOOOOWWWW. They added a lot of animations so it takes 1. Longer to boot up, 2. Long time to get from one source, to the menu, to another source. They also made some of the "buttons" in the menu systems so small. I don't have fat fingers but it takes NUMEROUS times to get the touch screen to actually recognize the command on these little "buttons."

In Topic: 2-ways on head unit or external amp?

high pass filter channels? lol

I dont know where to begin. the "ways" of the speaker don't really determine whether you should put an amp to them. the speakers you are using dont' need an amplifier. They are "normal" aftermarket replacements. If you'd like the have cleaner, louder sound (in layman's terms) you can amp them, but typically 4x6 speakers can not handle a lot of power, especially LFE (<100hz).

DRL's are a U.S. DOT feature. Do you have fog lights? If so you can use those as you have to turn those on via the switch

In Topic: Shallow Mount Subs in Doors?

19 April 2011 - 02:53 PM

I've glassed 8" shall subs into doors. I also used a good amount of sound deadening on the inner and outer skin. If you are looking to do it in your dub, it's going to be an issue with depth as it barely fits speakers without spacers. You'll prob have to surface mount it. I'll see if I can find pics of the one I did.

In Topic: Caution screen no backup cam

You have to make sure the backup camera is off. Once it is turned on and nothing is attached to it, it gets confused and stays on. go to the settings and there is an option for it.
