  1. Pioneer mentioned this in the comments of a post on their facebook page. The folder has to be labeled this way for all NEX models to find the update on the drive. Don't ask me why.
  2. I had the problem with my source switching to USB/iPod as well. My (temporary) solution was to go to Settings in the Escort Live app, then Alert Settings. For each type of alert, set Sounds to off. Leave Radar Detector Tones set to voice (or whatever audio type you prefer). This stopped the source switching for me, but of course it also stops audio from coming through when in the USB/iPod source. I'm ok with that, because the audio still plays through the detector itself, which I honestly prefer.
  3. The only non-Apple apps currently available for CarPlay are Spotify and Rdio. The other apps listed on Apple's CarPlay page haven't been officially updated for wide release yet. Unlike AppRadio, CarPlay support is built into the main app... No mobile version of apps are needed.
  4. I know you are looking for confirmation from another person, but I will say that I did NOT have to go through the process again. The bypass state was still in tact after installing firmware 1.06.
  5. You shouldn't have to restart the phone every trip, but I have had to restart it a few times. Almost all of the bugs I have experienced so far seem to be on Apple. Nothing that I have experienced stands out as Pioneer's fault. Regarding your steering wheel, that is a problem with your wheel/head unit interface kit. My Maestro SW is working fine with Siri. I am disappointed with the current app/API support among developers. They are all being paid off to support one ecosystem. It seems like everyone is taking on Apple and taking sides with Android or another OS, and withholding apps a
  6. #5 isn't a bug... Those apps just haven't been updated to support CarPlay yet.
  7. I just tied out Maps again now that it is dark here... Night mode worked! I've definitely had several little bugs that seem to come and go with rebooting the phone...maybe this is one of them???
  8. Yes, headlight were on, and the unit is hooked up to the headlight light sensor, which is working fine with the Pioneer Nav.
  9. It was 9:00 last night and was dark out when I tried it! It was still in day mode!
  10. Hmm. I'll have to play with it a bit more. I looked for a setting to enable it on the phone, but I couldn't find one.
  11. Maps in CarPlay does not seem to have a night mode for me... Has anyone else seen a night mode? The actual display dims due to the Pioneer headlight hookup, but the colors on Maps are still the bright day colors, and are a bit too bright at night.
  12. The capacitive screen still pays off for me when I am scrolling through my music library, contacts, etc. It will also be nice when more apps add CarPlay support and we have multiple pages to swipe between.
  13. Make sure the drive is formatted as FAT or FAT32. This limits your drive size to 32GB, since more requires a different file system.
  14. I love the 8000NEX, even before it had CarPlay! The capacitive screen is quite responsive, but it is a glass finish... it is very reflective and it shows fingerprints. I installed an anti-glare iPad Mini screen protector, cut to size, on mine... Makes all the difference in the world! No reflections and no fingerprints!
  15. Has Pioneer officially launched map updates for the NEX units yet? It sounds like they have just enabled the update feature with this new firmware, but I haven't seen any press releases from Pioneer announcing that. There isn't even any mention of how to update maps in the user manual or on their website for any of the NEX units. I would think the 90-day free update period would begin when they go public with this feature. That said, I registered at NaviExtras, downloaded the Toolbox, prepared a USB Drive in the nav settings of the NEX, and plugged it into my computer. The 2013Q4 updat
  16. Apple decided to go with a + and - button for zooming in Maps for CarPlay. Honestly, it works better and is less distracting, in my opinion.
  17. Umm... Should we tell him???
  18. They haven't been updated to support CarPlay yet.
  19. Here is a great video review posted on the main CarPlay thread... It should answer most or all of your questions! http://youtu.be/zMsaTSTPeFc
  20. CarPlay does NOT lock out the phone... The phone's interface is always available.
  21. If you have exhausted the other steps, try rebooting your phone... That has worked for several folks.
  22. Yes. See the link below for a list of Apps that support CarPlay either now, or will soon... https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ As far as I know, Spotify is the only 3rd party App that currently works. We are still waiting on a CarPlay-enabling update for the others.
  23. 1) Your iPhone must be using ONLY a Lightning to USB cable plugged in to USB1 on the NEX. Do not use a Digital AV Adapter (HDMI or VGA). CarPlay ONLY supports USB1. 2) Under Smartphone Setup, you must have connection type set to USB. CarPlay will not work if it is set to any other type. 3) CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or higher, and iOS 7.1 or higher. 3) If you have verified steps 1-3, try a full reboot of your iPhone and turning off your car, and then turning it back on.
  24. The first part is definitely correct. I can't vouch for the second part, but I have heard others say that this works.
