I have been following technology for many, many years. And yes, I do know Pioneer very well. I regularly attend CES, and I was at CES when Pioneer anounced the NEX line of recievers. As an Apple developer, I have been fortunate to attend their WWDC for the last few years, and I was at the event that announced CarPay in 2013. I am fully aware of the timing of both, and Pioneer did not commit to adding CarPay to the NEX line until their April announcement. If I read your post correctly, you are actually agreeing with my assessment. That some are having unrealistic expectations about a f

Just what information has been given to us that was horribly inaccurate? It seems to me our definition of early summer ending at the beginning of July is the only thing that strikes me as inaccurate. As far as I know, Pioneer has not broken any delivery promise to me. When I purchased my 8000 I knew full well that CarPlay was not baked in the firmware yet, and an early summer update was needed. I also knew that the AvicSync was not available yet. You can't blame Pioneer for your expectations.
  3. Apple does have a set of CarPlay API's, but they are limiting access to a small, select group of companies/developers right now. That is probably a wise move as they roll out version 1.0.
  4. That's the issue with the Adroid phones in general vs the iPhone. The shear number of iPhones on the latest OS release and the large number of differant android phones with various releases of android and hardware specs. It's a heck of a lot easier to develop for one device than 100.
  5. Every single car navigation system that I have ever used is a pain in the rear to enter destination information in. City, street and number (seem backwards to me). As a developer myself, I can understand why the did it this way. Faster searches. Siri and Android voice uses a more nature language. So I just have to say the address naturally, and it routes. Apple maps has improved greatly over the last year and is on par (in my opinion) with Google maps for car navigation. I assume that CarPlay apps for gas prices and POI will mesh nicely with the base Apple maps. Plus, the maps on our

  7. As a software developer, I can understand the philosophy of "ship it when it's ready". There are some (Google..) who seem to ship beta, but that's generally not a good practice. As far as release dates are concerned, no one is going to give you a specific date that far in advance. Early summer for CarPlay is about as precise as you're going to get until the day or two before launch. As a consumer and 8000NEX owner, I am as excited as hell to get my hands on CarPlay. I wish it was yesterday. But, you really can't beef all over Pioneer for lack of communication here. What part of Ea
  8. I am not sure that the NEX head units are based on Android as the base OS. I do know that QNX is used a lot as for various radios and systems as well as middleware to connect these devices.
  9. Looks cool. What kind of antenna does it have? Magnetic exterior mount or interior hide away?
  10. If using iTunes Match, it may be streaming in and lagging a bit. I have match, but I also have all of my songs downloaded directly on my phone. No connectivity issues or data usage problems. But to be honest, I also have all of my music on an SD card as well. I go back and forth using the SD card and using my phone for playing my music collection in the car.
  11. I kind of agree with Myke2241. Google is a company that makes their money selling information for advertising. I am not sure that I want them gathering even more information about me. Apple has a different business model and they do not sell any information about on users data. I know some might not mind being data mined, but I do. I wonder why there is so much distrust and contempt of our government gathering our information, but some seem to feel ok freely giving every personal detail of their life to a company that exploits it for finiancial gain. I will step off my soap box no
  12. I just use the iPhone mp4 output from handbreak. Works just fine.
  13. There is a navigation volume adjustment in the navigation tools menu.
  14. I am running iOS 8 beta , but not on the device I am connecting from. But... I do carry an iPad Mini running iOS 8 Beta 2 with me in the car... So there may be some Bluetooth stuff going on that I am not aware of. I'll disable the Bluetooth on all of my iOS devices except the one I am connecting to the Pioneer and see if that improved connectivity.
  15. I think that the connectivity consistency could be improved. I am an iOS developer, and the connection problems seem to be related to the HDMI connection. For some reason, the HU is not getting information that the AppRadio is running on the iPhone. It knows that the iPhone is connected via HDMI, but the handshake is not there sometimes for the AppRadio iPhone app. In reading the forums, I don't seem to be alone in this. If the connectivity issue is inherent in AppRadio system, then the system is too flawed to use.
  16. You can disable the lock, as I have on my 8000 (relay plus the software disable). But, distracted driving will be an issue in the years to come. If the companies producing the hardware and software for connected systesm do not police themselves, then congress will do it for them.
  17. Interesting, but not too surprising. They have to be very careful to make sure that the apps are not distracting to the driver and can be used in a short number of touches or seconds. This is for all of the OEM's, the after market guys , Apple and Google. So, anything visual, moving that has a lot of interaction will come later, if ever. Even the maps and videos that are on the radios now have the motion lock and only work (by design..) with the parking break engaged or at below a certain speed.
  18. As a fairly new owner of an 8000NEX, I wanted to share my first impressions of the AppRadio Live app. Overall, I like the look and function of the app. The interface is clean and it's fairly easy to navigate. It seems a bit limited right now, and I wish the other AppRadio apps and main Radio functions could be accessed directly from this new space. The main issue that I have right now is the intermittent connection issues each time I plug my iPhone up. Sometimes it connects, and sometimes I am stuck on the screen asking me to make sure my phone is not locked (it is not) and I have an

  21. What apple will most likely do is release the updated apps when CarPlay is ready. They have very few CarPlay app partners right now, only approving a small number of companies and developers for CarPlay compatable apps. I am a IOS developer and I have a cple of ideas for CarPlay apps, but the door is closed right now. My bet is that you won't see the apps updated until launch day. The only ones available will be the ones they have announced, with others following later.
  22. I was hoping they would launch with this... Now we just need the launch. http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/24/apple-adds-mlb-at-bat-to-list-of-carplay-supported-apps/
