  1. Yes, disconnecting the battery resets the radio presets. I haven't seen it effect the CarPlay. It also turns off the backup camera. The Nav setting seem to stay. I've had my car worked on a couple of times at the dealership, so experienced this a few times with my 6000.
  2. Is your iPod setting set to "usb" in the setup menu?
  3. No it just controls the beep noise when you touch the screen. Just one noise. You can control how loud the beep is or turn it completely off with the feature found on the gear screen.
  4. It's to toggle the beep tone on and off when pressing selections on the console (ie changing radio stations). I have mine turned off.
  5. It's in the Nav settings under "warnings". You can turn off the speed warnings there. You access the menu from the map on the right side.
  6. Just updated my 6000. Nothing is different, but I haven't played with it yet. It does completely reset your Nav. So any saved locations are completely wiped. Went through the Nav set-up wizard as well. Had to turn off the speed warnings, adjust my voice commands, etc, etc.
  7. Yeah, I just read through a lot of posts on it. Basically it taps into speedometer speed pulse wire. The unit then knows that the car is moving and at what rate. Important when you lose GPS signals like going into tunnels, heavily forested areas, lots of tall buildings ect...so the nav keeps functioning vs hanging up waiting to reconnect with the lost satellites. It also helps with making turm notifications a bit sharper/sooner vs last minute. Also has some effect on the ASL feature (automatic sound leveliser) that lowers/increases the radio volume as you go slower/faster. I've had my unit (60
  8. It's means that your VSS aka "speed wire" isn't connected. You can do a quick search on here for those terms and get the detail on what that does. The unit will work fine in Simple Hybrid Mode as long as you have a GPS signal.
  9. Good to know. Not sure why my installer didn't connect it? Does it have anything to do with allowing me to manipulate the nav while driving? Was reading that with the VSS connect you can't make nav changes when the vehicle is moving. I know he bypassed the e-brake safety feature, so guessing the VSS is related?
  10. Mine isn't connected and works just fine, but you are correct if I drove in a tunnel it would lose track of itself. Have yet to have that happen. Although I noticed my unit did not adjust the clock one time. Was an hour behind the correct time, but then magically corrected. Not sure if that was related. I have a 6000.
  11. Always cracks me up as well...
  12. In order to use Carplay the iPhone has to be connected to USB1, which is also the USB that all the updates go through. So in my opinion, you should run the USB extention out to USB1 and out your dash, and then you can connect a lightening cable for Carplay and/or easy USB update. I would just buy another extention and you should be all set with one to the dash and one to your glovebox for your Classic iPod. Not sure about the reversed back-up camera signal, but the "other" camera is incase you want to hook one up somewhere else outside the car. Some folks like different angles when towi
  13. I have the 6000. It has HDMI as well. If you don't want the built in Nav, then the 4100 or 4000 is the way to go.
  14. You are correct. I didn't realize that. Sorry for the misinformation on the 7000 & 8000.
  15. Yeah, be interesting when the new X100 units come out in June.
  16. To answer your other question on which NEX to choose, the flagship 8000 seems to be the best one with the capacitive touch screen. If money is an issue, then 5000 or 6000. I went with the 6000, because I wanted the HD Radio and Traffic. I live in a major city and HD radio is awesome. If Nav isn't a deal breaker, the 4000 maybe an option. Has all the audio features of the 7000 without the Nav. My wife wanted Nav, so I went with the 6000. I love the unit. Had it professionally installed along with a back-up camera. Works like a champ. CarPlay is cool, Bluetooth works great...HDMI cable for mirr
  17. On the 5000 & 6000, only the control button bar on the side is removable to prevent theft. Not the entire face like the 7000 & 8000. You then need a passcode after reclipping in the button bar to turn the 5000/6000 on. I never remove mine, as I'm not sure how big a deterrent it would be or if even noticed by a theif. Might start if parking the vehicle in a shady spot.
  18. Needs to be an iPhone 5 or newer running 8.0 or newer for the CarPlay to work. You also have to have it plugged into USB 1 using your Apple FireWire cable. Won't work via Bluetooth right now. Bluetooth is disabled when it's plugged in, as all your phone's features are running via the FireWire cable. It also uses the Pioneer Nav antenna for the Apple Maps App.
  19. You can go on the pioneer website and compare the two products side by side to see what the differences are.
  20. Have had my 6000NEX unit since Dec. Had it professionally installed. Only issue I have had is that one time the clock was behind by an hour, so my arrival times were behind as well. Then it "magically" corrected itself. Ha
  21. On the iPhone you might want to go into the General- Siri settings and make sure she is "on" and voice feedback is set to "Always". Not sure if that is the solution, but worth a shot.
  22. Apple needs to fix the Bluetooth connectivity on the phones. I have an iPhone 6 and its a pain to get it to connect to my 2010 Ford Factory radio. Had no problems with previous OS versions. I too hope 8.3 fixes the Bluetooth issues. When I use the CarPlay in the car where the 6000NEX is installed I use the FireWire. No issues at all. Just wish there were more compatible apps. That will come me with time, and Pioneer needs to keep our units compatible with the newer OS and future CarPlay updates. I know...not a lot of faith there. Ha
  23. I totally agree. Even Apple provides updates for its older phones for quite some time. Can you imagine the backlash if they dropped all support for the iPhone 6 when the 6S comes out this year? Pioneer needs to continue to provide updates for at least 2-3 years to keep up with the ever changing cell phone technology. At least the X000 and X100NEX products share a common software platform.
  24. Yeah pioneer needs to update as the technology updates. But from what I am reading they don't do a good job of software updates.
  25. Works great. Just make sure that your phone is plugged into the FireWire as you have to have power in order for "Hey Siri" to work. So if you are using CarPlay it's already there! You can say "Hey Siri", the line will come up and then give her a command. Only issue I have had us sometimes she doesn't hear me. Not sure if that's because of all the other ambient noise in the car. Especially if the radio is turned up. But usually works. Also, Just make sure that the "Hey Siri" feature is turned on in the phone. 6000NEX, iPhone 6
