remove your gauge cluster (mph/rpm/fuel/EVERYTHING your looking at) and in the harness there will be red/white wire. probably a couple of screws and some clips holding it in.
-
as far as which screen it shows when it boots...that depends which unit. your illumination wire is connected to your parking lights or headlights. which will control your avic. if you want to be able to dim the avic your illum. wire should be connected to the +12v dimmer wire at the switch. again depending on which unit it may not dim, just on/off.

red/yellow in DKP.

Need wiring instructions for D3 in a 2003 Odyssey EX-L

The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is located in the center console. The VSS is blue/white located in a 32 pin plug. not sure on reverse. youll have to test. -
im not sure on the 85vette but it is very possible to replicate a VSS signal. not very easy, but possible. i have done several aftermarket cruise controls that require a add on VSS "kit" (two magnets.. one mounted to a fixed point under the cars suspension, one to a rotating or moving (axle, or any suspension that moves) in the direction of the vehicle moving forward. actually pretty basic, not reliable b/c the magnets evetually fall out. all the "ol school" installers feel me. check rostra.com good luck.

'03 Dodge Ram 1500 Back up and VSS locatinon, the norm...

it will help to keep the arrow "speed" accurate. but if your having trouble with it going "off path" its probably an antenna(gps) issue. VSS is only the vehicle speed sense wire. -
'05 Toyota Corolla Backup wire + Questions
osephj20 replied to Raider007's topic in Vehicle Specific Wiring
you are correct...only need reverse for a camera. and DO NOT cut your RCA's. you could damage the harness or the stereo. just tape them or let them be. -
well you can use a multimeter to test the vss wire...but its challenging for someone who is not a "professional." if your MPH on your "vehicle dynamics" screen works you'll know, plus you'll know from how accurate (fast or slow) your avic gps tells you your traveling.

sounds like a remote turn-on issue. possibly using the power antenna control wire?!?!? or maybe your non-fader output is turned down on the audio controls.
