Usually you arent supposed to see those. To be safe, did you disconnect the battery before trying this? It is a really bad idea to connect it with the battery on as you can spark and blow a fuse.

Yeah, most people haven't had much luck downloading the new maps. It is best if you got it here or from ebay. They will be back-up (burnt) copies but at least you will have them. I have seen people sell it from 10-40 dollars here, which i personally think isn't a bad offer. For sure use DVD -R if you were to burn them. I have never had any issues with this format. The difference between DVD-R and DVD+R is a different standard. Just like blu-ray and HD DVD and how they couldnt agree on a standard there, only the differences arent as obvious as that.

Yeah, I think that was me. I actually ended up buying the new pioneer back up camera. I compared it to my friends ND-BC1, and there is no comparision. Higher resolution, and better night vision. It is a little over half the size of the old one, so its a lot easier to hide it from potential theives.

The wire harness is a plug that goes directly onto your old radio wire harness, and it recolors the wiring to match the color of the standard aftermarket wires. i.e. red =12volt source yellow 12 v constant... It isnt necessary, but its good to have in order to avoid mistakes. It also gives you a couple more inches of wiring to work with.

It was Geico. Comparable units to them are units not necessarily from the same brand, but some functionality. The Z1 was a GPS system, so any ol' in dash GPS system with about the same size screen was an acceptable replacement according to the insurance company.

having insurance cover the Z1 is a joke. My friend's Z1 got stolen last week, and they gave him a bunch of excuses and only paid less than half what he paid for the unit since they said its a discontinued model (with Z2 coming out and everyone out of stock). They gave him a wimpy 700$. He ended up getting a cruddy used D2, and canceled his insurance.

Yup I spent 350 on getting a two way alarm system so that i am notified if anyone breaks my window. I also got a steering wheel lock so that it would partial restrain the z1 with a metal bar. When I am in a unknown/ghetto neighborhood, I make sure to have something covering the z1, like a towel. I think all of this was pointless though because all my windows are tinted, so unless you stare directly into my car, you would never notice it there.

A ground loop isolator is never as good as an actual group. From my experience, they never did much.
