  1. same here. My wife is so upset with how wrong the Z1 sometimes gets (about 50% of the time she uses it) in bay area that, we don't even talk about it anymore. On our other car (06 Civic hybrid with built-in Nav - using latest NavTech maps), the location/direction is spot-on. I was telling that the Z1 update will fix the map issues - but now I am tired of telling her to wait. If it was going to be her way, she would rip out the Z1 the next second and jump on it a few times before throwing it into trash-bin. That said, I still love the Z1 - for its coolness (so many functions together)..
  2. Still waiting to hear from the Pro on the update effect...You can't use 'calm down' on me again, you used that already cheers PN '97 Q45 with Z1, Bluetooth, iPod, XM, steering remote, DVD remote

    Z1 Update

bay area me too. But I have seen quite a few mapping errors. The errors I found were similar, the real addresses were a few blocks off on the same road. Some of those errors were right on El Camino Real in Cupertino near the intersectoin of De Anza Blvd. It frustrated us, we were late and the address wasn't there where Z1 said it would be. Yes, $250 for this is not fair - having bought it just 6months ago. But may be we can come up with some innovative idea , all being in bay area. What do you think?
  4. This wait is killing me . there was so much talk about the upgrade the moment Z2 was announced. And now the upgrade DVDs are available, and there is this very uncomfortable silence probably before a storm of discussions based on findings. Did it work? Old bypass still working? Map showing better accuracy? IPOD video working? any faster access? Better bluetooth quality? And an important one: Z1 owners deserve a free update if all the above 'problems' have been fixed . Can't wait to hear from the those brave ones who are trying the upgrade as I write this! Good luck guys!
  5. Congratulations! Glad you are enjoying it. Just a clarification on the manufacturer of the Bose units. The Bose systems in the stero units are the separate Bose amplifiers and the Bose active speakers. The head-unit is made by Clarion as others have mentioned. But the sound is amplified by a separate BOSE amplifier (on Q45, this amplifier unit is in teh middle of the rear two units) and all the speakers are ACTIVE and made by BOSE. So Nissan/infiniti decided to put the word 'BOSE' on the top of the head-unit.
  6. got a Infiniti Q45 which also had a Bose headunit and a bose amplifier. Needed a module so the installer did that (he knows the nissans pretty good and knew exactly the right module). This module uses the bose amplifier and reduces the volts from the Z1 (from 2 to 1 if I remember) when connecting to the bose amp. Everything sounds as it should. There are controls within Z1 to reduce/increase guidance/bluetooth voice etc. volume - so once you install the adapter, play with the volume options within D3 (they should be similar to the Z1 I have) and you will get all you want. Remember th
  7. works great on my Infiniti Q45. I actually have it on the left side of the steering wheel and the infrared signals have no difficulty getting to my Z1. Highly recommended. One thing though: the volume buttons are at the back of the remote and you have to use soft pressure, otherwise there is a chance that the remote will eject out of its holding - which is not a big deal as you can snap it back to its place. May be I can fix the holding tab once and for all to get rid of this issue. When I get time, I will try and post a picture.
  8. In line with what ducatiboy guessed, we use that every-day to let users upgrade their telecom (and other) units to new code or new feature. This is generally how it works: Each hardware unit has its own serial number. When that serial number is entered on to Pioneer's support website, it then generates a upgrade-key that uses the Z1's serial# as an input key (along with some other known-to-both-parties-key based on some MD5/AES256 (whatever encryption standard they want to use) encryption. That upgrade key can only be recognized by the Z1 that has that serial# (decoding the key using
  9. Hey, I was speaking with a Pioneer Nav Tech today and got the info that the update would be close to $250 (most likely) and that it would be done at dealerships (takes 3-hours or so). Of course it is software update only. Anybody heard otherwise or the same? If this is actually true that updates will only happen at dealerships, I think they are doing it to minimize piracy (unconfirmed Z2s ). But wouldn't dealerships charge additional 'installation' charge on top of the $200ish whatever the update DVD costs? I asked whether those who are buying Z1 from dealerships could get the up
  10. May be this is a celebration too early - only time will tell. So I was with blackberry and had a great bluetooth experience with Z1. Then I bought the Cingular 8525 (HTC - Hermes) and started getting guaranteed bluetooth disconnects mid-call - 99% of time the disconnect happens within 2 to 3 mins (this is the bluetooth disconnection, not the actual call disconnection with the other party - most of the times you can continue the conversation by using the phone set). Everything else was great. Returned the unit after reading many posts in the internet how WM5 phones are notorious for not mai
  11. treo 650 with pioneer: Treo 650 have gotten Bluetooth Patch on them sometime ago. The phone you just got from Palm can you make sure you have the latest Palm OS patch? I think the OS version is5.x. Check that you have the latest patch. 2nd, as someone already suggested, try repairing by clearing old entries or just changing the pioneer bluetooth password and that would require a re-pairing of both units.
  12. i live in california as well, have light tint on front and dark tint for rear and back glass. Have done on both my cars for the last 6+ years, have been stopped by cop for other reasons, never for the tint.
  13. First of all, thank you for doing this service to the community. I installed the Z1 on my 1997 Infiniti Q45, but have not hooked up to the speed sensor. Also, I don't have a backup camera yet, but would like to hook that as well. Can you please help me point to the sensor wire for tapping the speed pulse? I heard somewhere that the speed sensor cannot be retrieved from the ECU. Appreciate your help. Thanks a lot! Phal

  15. I agree with all that position of mic is key to eliminating/reducing echo. I have mine installed by a professional who has installed more than 60 Z1s. Here is a picture of the Z1 installed on my Infiniti Q45, http://picasaweb.google.com/pnanda/06De ... 3124927538 I have my Z1 phone audio volume at more than 3/4th. My phone when registered with the Z1 had its volume set at half. No echo complaints after heavy usage for a month...

    Z2 Announced

I read the D3 info at http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable ... 226735.php. I see D3 is a big upgrade from D2 and now includes bluetooth and DVD. So how is Z1/Z2 any different from D3 then? I agree with everyone that Z2 differences could just be an updated TeleAtlas map with some very minor software updates. Most likely they have the bluetooth fix and hopefully ipod fix. They will NOT announce at Z2 update that they have 'FIXED' issues - that will not read very well in CES. So I assume when they provide the Z1 update in March/Apr, they will surely have the latest maps, and hopefully
  17. I have a Oct 06 and I believe it has a echo fixed, first because I don't get the echo at all in all 3 phones I have paired with, even at the highest Z1 phone volumes. Secondly, I think I read in another post about another Oct 06 Z1 owner tried installing the update and the message came that the update was already installed. So I go with tillithz.
  18. Same problem I faced with my cingular 8525 (windows mobile 5), the bluetooth will disconnect mid-call after 2 to 5mins (varied). I returned the phone - very frustrated. Seems like a Windows issue, no matter which phone it was on (treo, Hermes...). Any real solution on this yet? I searched ZB12 but that is an update for Samsung A900 for Sprint.
  19. I always have a folded circulat sun-screen that I use for dashboard in summer. When I park at unfamiliar places that I feel worried, I use the sun-screen to cover my dash and not the windsheild. I usually do that at night and I hope that is frustrating enough for a thief to even give up his curiosity. Z1+Bluetooth+IPod+XM-NAV
  20. I did more research... Kept the 8525 to GSM only (no auto switching between GSM and UMTS) and the bluetooth still disconnected. Tried the same by keeping UMTS only and same problem... Still no luck as to what part of the 8525 is broken, Microsoft Driver or the bluetooth chip or any other ROM? But definitely a 8525 issue though.
  21. I am not sure if it was the 70-7551 (which is just a connector without a high/low conversion), I think they used a bos adapter that brought down the 2volt output from the Avic-Z1 to 1volt that goes into the bose amp. Agree that this is an easy job as long as the installer is aware of the bose amp requirement (1volt vs. the standard 2volt). The installation is easy if you have done it once on an infiniti and it seemed like his team had done this many times before. He was fine when I asked him to put the antenna outside on the trunk lid - he was accommodative...
  22. This might be a very good read, Audi owners with bluetooth Kit are facing the same problem...their 8525 disconnects every now and then. read on at the following forum - seems like it definitely is the 8525 and not Z1 http://www.howardforums.com/showthread. ... 882&page=1 Bummer, I might have to let go of the 8525...
  23. Okay, here is the result of two tests: On one car, I tried 8525 with Motorola HF820 for about 10mins on a single call (most part of it on the freeway), no disconnection problem. On my Q, I then tried 8525 with Z1 for about 10+mins on a single call (most part on freeway) and had no disconnect problem. So not much help so to speak. So far Z1+8525, the drops are very intermittent, and all the time I have been on the freeway, there have been no drops (usually cell-signal is very strong on freeways - any effect of that on the WM based phones maintaining their bluetooth connection??).
  24. Hi Guys, I received the 8525 a week ago and while my previous phone (blackberry 7300 cingular) was fine with bluetooth on Z1, the 8525 is exhibiting similar behavior as what you are seeing in your phones. But mine is very intermittent. Sometimes I have chatted for 15mins without issues, sometimes it disconnects (voice goes to phone set only) within a few minutes. Sometimes when that bluetooth has dropped, I have seen that the 8525 is also in the midst of UMTS<->GPRS connection switch, but not always. My wife's treo650 works just fine, never had a disconnect. I believe it is purely a
  25. Hi Members, I have been reading this wonderful forum for a month and finally a couple of weeks ago got my AVIC-Z1 installed with Bluetooth, XM/NavTraffic and iPod adapter (& the rear-seat remote-control that currently controls the DVD player on the main HU - works great, the steering remote is on order) on my 1997 Infiniti Q45 which had a factory Bose system (I think the HU was Clarion and the amps and speakers are from bose). I used the high-low adapter to keep the Bose amp and speakers. All installations were done professionally (very well done!!!) by the AMS Stereo out of Stevens Creek
