  1. IT WON'T WORK!!!!! You need the right hand drive model with the knob on the other side!!!
  2. That is just wrong information. You can mount these under the dash very successfully...as I have four of them now mounted that way. The secret is, you need it as far forward as possible and you cannot have any metal whatsoever over the top of it. This method provides a very stealth installation and works extremely well with no drop outs. Next, you do need the metal plate. It provides a ground plane. You can also use existing metal brackets and get by. But I went a bit further with my installations. I cut as large a piece of sheet metal...much heavier stuff than provided by pioneer..
  3. I'm sorry, I just don't believe that to be true. No way Pioneer just leaves this as is. I'm more likely to believe the person you talked to has no idea what you're talking about...as is usually the case. They never know anything other than what's written in front of their face. If it is true...they just sold a lot of units from other manufacturers...
  4. Have you read this forum?? Of course I have read this forum... I was talking to WidowMaker. He claims there are no problems...
  5. And that's what separates the men from the boys. There is no guaranteed recovery.
  6. Lots of possibilities. But if I were going that route, I would go with a carputer instead of this. Soooo much more to offer. Of course, price would go up accordingly.
  7. CMIYC...can you explain "best practice" for obtaining a full back up prior to making any changes? It seems to me the logical thing to do would be to get a total back up or image of your software on your pc, dvd, etc. for restoring your system. I think that's where a lot of folks are confused. How do you get a GOOD back up, and how do you restore it if required? If you (or anyone) can provide this tutorial, it would help a lot of folks understand.
  8. Please note he is obviously located across the pond. Does it state this on the other manuals? Not a lot of European nations speak English natively...
  9. Please qualify that answer. If you read the forum here, you will see there is an update expected soon to fix a lot of issues. Until that is resolved, I would say this unit is about as far away from being "polished" as can be. And Pioneer knows it. But I do think their commitment to this unit is strong and they will make it right.

    RDS???

I did not know that on the HD unit. Great news. Lack of RDS is a horrible omission on these expensive units. It must be expensive. I saw the licensing agreement for using HDMI by manufacturers. I was blown away how much a manufacturer has to pay to add HDMI. Must be something similar for RDS.
  11. Horsepucky. Call Crutchfield and see what they have to say about that. They'll choke. Pioneer warrants products from Crutchfield.
  12. What a great post! Everything in one nice, neat spot. This should be locked, and stickied so it can be added to as new processes are discovered.
  13. Wow. Why would a station broadcast on a frequency not allowed? Is this a Canadian station by chance? Does HD radio allow this? I know nothing about this stuff, that's why I'm curious. Makes no sense for me to own a radio station most people can't listen to.
  14. May sound crazy, but are you certain you have the microphone plugged in all the way? If so, I would try another microphone and see if it's that or in the unit itself.
  15. No they don't. They have 4 channels. You can use the two fronts and use the rears for the sub. But you can't have front, rear, and a sub. Read page 6: http://inform3.kenwoodusa.com/manuals%5 ... nstall.pdf You have to go to the DNX7120 to get the six channel.
  16. Hack...seriously...what a fantastic effort. You've opened more doors than you know.
  17. Please keep in mind that having the navigation menus active while in motion is not against the law in any way. If it were so, then Acura would be in deep doo doo as all their cars have active nav menus right from the factory. Having DVD active can be a gray area. If you are watching a dvd and have an accident, then most states will probably come after you. But if you don't have an DVD in the unit, is it illegal? Just bypassing Pioneer's system in not reason for a lawsuit. Loss of warranty...possible. Taking Pioneer off the hook for DVD watching...probably. But not illegal.
  18. I just noticed that Kenwood model doesn't have subwoofer preouts.
  19. Although unlikely, there is a possibility it could affect it. For example, if the VSS was tapped into the system improperly, or in an improper spot, the possibility does exist that it could cause other issues. I would say some research wouldn't hurt. How about finding a Lexus forum and see what others have done and if they have experienced any issues.
  20. Did you read what you wrote???? What a fucking idiot. IT HAS PROBLEMS! IT'S DEFECTIVE!!! Just because all others have them doesn't make it right for God's sake. By your reasoning, if most the Chevy Malibus made just up and died going down the road, it's ok because they all do it. But hey...if you can sleep at night...more power to you. But if you sell it to someone who gives a shit, grab your ass because you will find out in a heartbeat that what you committed was fraud if you advertised it as a good unit. But hey...don't take my word for it...go for it! Maybe I'll be the one who b
  21. You have got to be kidding me. You know what? I'm done with you. If you are that dense, if you really think what he was going to do was right, then you are what's wrong with the things in this world right now. Instant Gratification Generation. Unbelievable. Please read what you wrote. You admit the unit is a problem, but it's not defective??? My God.
  22. And that gives you the right to go screw someone else??? Jesus. Absolutely amazing train of thought. I read everything. Every word of several threads. I know there is a problem with the unit. You bought it...live with it until Pioneer fixes it. Now, if he were to list it on eBay with all the problems it was having, I take back every word. But the price he was going to ask kind of says that isn't going to happen doesn't it.
