  1. Thanks automnwalker and pionara. That was the problem. Best Buy installed it and they say they'll fix it for free.
  2. I was displaying a map and pressed both the mode button and then the home button. Neither showed a slider and neither dimmed the brightness of the map. My headlights turn on automatically when the ambient sunlight dims and they were on. When the headlights are on, the tail and parking lights are also on. I think I read that it could be an issue with the orange-white wire - maybe it's not connected to the right wire in the car). I didn't install it so I'm assuming that it was installed correctly. It is a little annoying for the map to be so bright at night but not terrible. Quite often, my arm
  3. I tried both the home and mode button this evening on my x940bt and it didn't seem to make any difference. The manual says the mode button will adjust the brightness on a video picture (from what I can tell).
  4. Interesting, DanimalKing. I started checking other stations and listened to my uSD and never heard it in those situations. I even got my installer (BestBuy) to give me a new antenna adapter when they were doing something else on the car. I finally decided that it was something with that radio station and not my Pioneer. In fact, most days it seems gone (or have I just tuned it out?). FWIW, it wasn't really static, it was more like pops and snaps. It sounds like your problem may be something else. Good luck to you!
  5. Amazon has the x940bt for $550 (prime). http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-X940BT-Navigation-Touchscreen-Bluetooth/dp/B006Y443TU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349403731&sr=8-1&keywords=940bt
  6. That line is called the "Direction line". It points to your next way point or final destination. See page 30 of the manual. I didn't see any way to turn it off.
  7. I don't think you can turn it off. It only appears under certain circumstances, I believe. I don't remember what it's for, but it is explained in the manual.
  8. I lost track of this thread. Thanks jsquid and zx6rrdan for the tips. I've started organizing my music for me SD card. I have a feeling this will be an iterative process. I looked at the sorting program. Does it only sort alphabetically? It would be nice to make my own sort.
  9. Glad to hear you're a happy camper! I'm not dissatisfied with the nav (maybe my standards are too low, but I think it compares pretty well to our Garmins). When I'm entering information, I like the way it shows you only the possible keys for the next character. I am not too happy about the scrolling. Dragging your finger on a list is either hit or miss or requires a skill I haven't mastered yet - but I will say I am getting a little bit better at it! I wish there were a way to scroll a line (and only one line) and/or a screen (and only one screen) at a time. I play my music from an SD card
  10. I bought one 32GB card that didn't work well. I assume that is something that is more likely to happen at higher densities, but that shouldn't be discounted. The filesystem the 940BT expects is either FAT16 or FAT32. I doubt that's your problem, but you might want to verify what is on your card by looking at it with a Winders box just to check the first time. You should think of the SD card like a disk drive when you put stuff on it. The tunes in a directory are played in order of their date/time stamp. I believe the tunes from the next directory (in time order) are played next (if you haven

    2012 Maps

$120 is expensive but a lot less expensive than what some car manufacturer's map upgrades go for. For example the update for the 2011 Mazda 6 goes for $199.
  13. I can help with a few of your questions: #3. I don't know (yeah, I'm a big help!). I have mine above the rear view mirror obviously on the driver's side. My wife says it sounds like a cube speakerphone. I can's say it's ideal. A friend put his mic (for a different radio) on his steering column. My Mercedes pretty much fills all the gaps around that so that isn't an option, but it does sound like a pretty good position if you can do it. I think the problem with mine - and probably most - mic locations is the distance from your mouth. The closer the better. #4. Mine is on the dash in the middl
  14. I have a Mercedes C230 and I have mine in the middle of the dash at the base of the windshield. There's a steel vent that it sticks to very nicely and the wire is almost completely hidden. The reception is pretty good. It will sometimes be off about fifty feet for a few minutes and then it will correct itself - obviously after acquiring that last satellite. It acquires satellites much faster than the Garmin we have. Good luck and thanks for your service!
  15. I know people who turn the sound off their Garmins so it seems that a lot of people do not appreciate the chatter they cause, but speed limit info is one of the glaring things missing from Pioneer Nav. On the other hand, my wife can't look at the screen and see if I'm speeding!
  16. Hi zx6rrdan, Can you share any tips for organizing stuff on a microSD? At the moment, I have just music mp3s organized by artist and album - the default organization that Realplayer makes. I plan on making directories that would act as playlists. Somewhere I saw the order it plays music but I've lost it (other than ordered by date/time... Anyway, any tips would be helpful. Thanks!
  17. Hi coolguy, Glad you got your unit installed. I don't know about most of the stuff you asked about since I don't have an iPod and didn't try the bypass (though the bypass from that video is known to work). It is interesting that the video cuts off at such a high speed, though. I don't think you can have two phones talking to he head unit at the same time. After all, the process is called "pairing"! I haven't tried to do bluetooth music either - for me, the microSD card is too easy (I don't get album art, though even though I get it from the mp3 files via RealPlayer on my PC).
  18. Hi jsquid, I noticed the same thing on my X940BT. I don't know of any cure other than to get an editing program and "glue" the two tracks together into one file. Maybe somebody else has an idea...
  19. I have an X940BT and the times I've used the nav, it seems to work about as well as our Garmins. I did go on one trip that took me on a different route than I expected - it wasn't as nice, but I'm not sure it was longer. Some routes it picks are the same as what Garmin picks that I don't like, but I'm not sure that's the nav's fault. I prefer to stay on four lane roads and they probably did pick the shortest but because a lot of it was a fairly busy two lane road, I didn't take it. So far, I've been pretty happy with mine. I don't know if it is as good as Garmin every time, but my wife had
  20. Let us know what you think when it's all installed!
  21. They will need an antenna adapter, but they will likely have it in stock. The iPod cable isn't required when you install the HU. The cable it plugs into is long enough to make it to my glove box. If/when I get an iPod, I shouldn't have to take the dash apart to connect the iPod cable to the HU. I just plug it into that cable. As I say, Best Buy doesn't have the best of reputations, but this should be a fairly straightforward installation so I wouldn't worry. The nice thing about their doing it is that you can take it back to get it just the way you want it and if you go to sell your car, t
  22. Mine is just above the rear view mirror. My wife told me this evening that it sounded like a "cube speaker phone". I've considered moving it but I don't know where I would put it. The steering column on my MB doesn't lend itself to snaking wires - they seemed to have tried to cover every gap; I guess that's part of what I paid for.
  23. That's in the ballpark of what I paid to install my 940 and rear view camera (license plate type). I supplied the harness, camera, and dash adapter. I had mine done at Best Buy - I know they don't have the best of reputations but they are very convenient and have provided good service. Go for it and tell us how it went!
  24. I've already mentioned that it isn't as chatty as my wife's Garmin. The graphics of the Garmin appeal to some. Some think they are cartoonish. The 940 has the same kind of lane advise and graphics that the Garmin has when you exit the Interstate for example (it shows a picture of the interchange with exit sign, etc.). It doesn't always say the name of the street to turn on (which might be a problem if there are lots of streets in quick succession (and some have complained that it doesn't label more cross streets) but it has a bar graph type thing that counts down to the turn that I like better
