  1. If you you've got and AppRadio 2 and an iPhone and are interested in how you can integrate a car radar unit into this, check my review on the Escort Smart Radar unit here: 14% 0%
  2. @danhyz - good explanation, your'e right on the money. I've done the 8.30 update and paired my iPhone 5, it works great. If anyone hasn't done it yet and want to see what it looks like, here it is:
  3. On the original question about snow, I get that too, on occasion. It seems to do the snow ( or white noise as it is called ) intermittantly for a few seconds and then goes away for no apparent reason. I have the iPhone 5 connected via an HDMI cable only. The factory 30 pin cable is plugged into the back of the head unit, but it is not connected to anything. By the way, I had this problem with my iPhone 4 and with the 30 pin cable connected too, so the phone or connection doesn't seem to matter. My HDMI adapter for the iPhone 5 was purchased through the Apple Store, so that isn't the problem ei
  4. I did a video to show what the 8.30 firmware with an iPhone 5 looks like, it works great, check it out:
  5. Yes, this combination works great, I'm finally back on board with AppRadio 2 and my iPhone 5 and touchscreen support. Check out how it works:
  6. If you update the AppRadio 2 to the current firmware you won't need to do any of this. Just connect an HDMI cable from the phone to the back of the head unit. Touchscreen now works via Bluetooth rather than through the Pioneer cable. Pioneer now officially supports iPhone 5 connectivity. Yay! Check out this video to see how it works:
  7. The only thing that streams over BT is the phone, everything else goes through the cable. I can't speak to jailbroken phone or head units, that might be a different story, but out of the box, it all goes over the wire.
  8. @Shaul64 - On your first point, the cable you mention seems highly unlikely that an adapter will convert the HDMI to composite. Why would they do that? The APR2 already has an HDMI input on the back, it seems more likely they would create a single Lighting connector at the phone end and the other end would break out into an HDMI and whatever that block connector is called that the iPhone plugs into now. So, all they really need to do is seperate the digital output of the phone and connect it to the HDMI on the back of the head unit. Either way, I hope they do something. On point two, the C
  9. I have Macmini as well and sice it uses an HDMI connector, the Appradio2 would serve as a monitor like any regular monitor. So, using direct connect and, perhaps using your cell phone as a wifi hotspot, if supported on your phone and carrier, you'd be set to go.
  10. @johnricc - yes, if you use the HDMI direct connection, you can use Netflix and Slingbox, I use both myself, it formats to the screen very well. Since, Slingbox now works via 3G/LTE, reception is no problem.
  11. So, do you have an AppRadio 2 in your car and you got an iPhone 5 and found out you now have a $350 AM FM Radio with blue tooth phone, and everything else is gone? Here's a couple of quick videos I did to make the best of a bad situation. The first one shows how to direct connect your iPhone 5 or iPad 4th gen to the head unit and get back the video you lost and still charge your phone without using the 40 pin connector. The second video takes it to the next level by integrating an Apple TV into the car and stream wirelessly to the head unit, nice, but a little more expensive and takes a bit of
  12. Here's my follow on video that shows how to connect your AppRadio2 to the Apple TV and view in the car. Watch the first one above that shows how to direct connect via HDMI cable, then check out this video: 100%
  13. After that 5 seconds, what appears on the head unit and what appears on the iPhone screen? Does the head unit still have an Android symbol in the Apps icon?
  14. I'll be making the AppRadio2 / Apple TV video as soon as my mobile router arrives from Amazon: http://www.cnetusa.com/esp/CQR-980.php Stand by...
  15. Here's a video for connecting your non-jailbroken iPhone 5 or iPad 4th gen via HDMI. Works pretty well. The video on the head unit looks over exposed in this shoot, but it actually is perfectly exposed in real life, so disregard that. My next shoot will be with the Apple TV installed, I'm going to shoot it with the parking lights on to dim the Pioneer screen to see if that helps. Anyway, this works pretty well, check it out: 100% 100%
  16. If you have an iPhone5 or an iPad 4th gen, you've found out that the AppRadio2 is pretty much DOA since you can't plug in the 30 pin connector. They claim that you can use the 30 pin to lighting adapter for iPod use, but it didn't work for me and there's no video anyways. So, use the HDMI port, that's what I do, and its better than nothing. Here's a video of what you get: 100% 100%
  17. I would think that an Apple TV connected to the HDMI port on the AppRadio2 and set the Apple device for a screen resolution of 720P should work fine. I'm going to try this in the next few days. I guess the only downside is that you would need a small 120 to 12 volt inverter to make it work since the Apple TV is doing the voltage conversion internally. Unless someone else beats me to it, I'll let you know how well this works out. This could be a good option for iPhone 5 users, except that it adds about $125, with inverter, to your parts list. Another option would be to get the HDMI adapter
  18. Thanks much, I'll try that out. Also, after spending a few minutes on the radio, I tried choosing a favorite station and found that by holding the #1 preset button for about 3 seconds sets it to the current station. Duh, pretty much like any other radio, I'm surprised they don't mention that in the docs. Hope it helps someone else.
  19. I just got my Appradio2 today and got it installed. Noob question, I've searched this forum and nothing comes up under this, I'm looking at the 50 page PDF manual, but I can't see anywhere that says how to set the 6 radio station preset buttons to the ones I want. It says you can pick strong or weak stations and it will automatically fill in the buttons. That can't be right, you mean I can't pick a station on the radio and set it to number one, then my next favorite and make it number 2, etc.? I've never seen a radio that doesn't allow that. Did I miss something?
