Z2 Announced

I just installed a Z1 with a December 2006 build. I did notice one difference in the AV button (the button to the left of the Menu button). There is a slightly raised portion of the button. I guess this is similar to a keyboard so you know how to orient yourself without looking at the unit. I've only had it in for a couple of days. I have to return it to the owner this Friday. I'll play with it more to see if I see any other differences.
2. In my install I had to change the VSS connection 3x because the pulse was either too slow or too fast. I ended with one that was just right.
3. Just finished the install. Everything works great. Used the new bypass recommendation. Thanks to all for their help and input.
4.

I have burned MP3's to a CD and it copied them with no problems... works great
For those of us who are new to the game - how do you 'tag' the files so that the song titles and artists show up properly on the Z1?
I believe the GraceNote DB will take care of this.
5. Mine appears to work fine for phone conversations but I'm not on the phone a lot while driving.
6. In CA if you have front tints and have not been ticketed, consider yourself lucky.
7. Did more research...no steering wheel control modules compatible with the 2003 Passat.
8. From what I understand if you do not connect the VSS, you will lose 3D capability. In addition, some of the diagnostic data cannot calculate such as slope.
9. Well, you problem can be that you have the wrong VSS wire connected. In my car, there are 3 speed pulses that can be detected by the Z1 but, only one of them actually produces something that the Z1 can decipher. I would suggest doing more research on you vehicle to confirm that there are no other VSS wires that you can tap.
10. Here's another question. How can I get the Z1 to respond to the steering wheel controls? I checked the PAC-Audio site and it does not list the 03 Passat. Any thoughts?
11. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll post my install pics once I'm done...it's my "End-of-the-year" project.
12. Thanks for the information. So, do I use the RCA pre-outs from the Z1 and connect them to the Monsoon amp? I have yet to remove the stock HU from the Passat. It's not my car...my sister's. She saw my Z1 in my car and had to have it for her's. I plan on getting the Metra harness that converts the Passat's harness into bare wire. I'm confused to actually what is behind the Passat's HU. I figured if I were to use the Monsoon amp, I would have to connect pre-outs to it...am I wrong here? Thanks again for the advice.
13. I need some help installing a Z1 in a 03 Passat with Monsoon. I already have the DIN sleeve so I'm good there my question is how to wire the Z1 with a Passat that has the Monsoon amp. I want to use the Z1's internal amp so my guess is I need to bypass the Monsoon amp. I need to know where the speaker wires are so I can easily connect them to the Z1...maybe this is not as easy as I think. Any Passat owners out there...please chime in. TIA.
14.
Thread, did you tie into the brake wire and if so, where abouts? Thanx
If you use DB circuit, you don't need to tap into the brake wire.
15. Watchcrazy...thanks for the suggestion. It took a few hours to modify the genres of all my songs but...IT WORKS!!! Drove 2 hours each way over the weekend and it was flawless. I am able to access songs and artists very easily...what an improvement. If anyone out there is frustrated with the slow iPod interface try the method suggested in this post and you will find heaven. Thanks again.
16. Crutchfield also told me that it would not fit in my Ridgeline. I guess they did not look behind the stock HU because there is plenty of room back there. I bought a kit and now I have a Z1.
17. Yea...good price on the install. Have you seen some of their work? I always hesitate working with installers unless I can see what they have done before. But like DB said, they won't bypass it for you and you will need to do it yourself or find and independent installer do the bypass for you. Good luck.
18. You don't have to be in the Monterey area to search a POI in Carmel. Once you get your car back, you could do a search for your restaurant and if it's on the database it will be there.
19. When you disconnect the power to the Z1 everything reverts to default settings. This includes your volume settings. You can adjust volume in the settings tab.

Pioneer XDV-P90

I'm not sure if that model is compatible with the Z1. It looks like there is an external remote to control the changer. I bet the IP bus will connect to the Z1 the only thing is you probably cannot control the changer with the Z1. You may want to investigate this unit.
21.
Is there a way to input the titles without using all capitals? Is there a way to "search" the CDDB database and then apply the results to an album? I am not recording any mix CDs, only full CDs purchased from iTunes.
The answer for both of your questions is NO. The Z1 does not have that capability.
22. From my understanding, the quickest connection between an iPod and an aftermarket radio is found in the Alpine units...it is a direct digital to digital interface.
23. You're kidding me...I would have never thought you were a post past 50...congratulations and thanks for all the great suggestions and insight.

25. I've done a lot of construction but I'm new to the car audio install game. But I've found many similarities between the occupation. The common thing is with both, there are many "short-cuts" that a contractor/installer can make. Some of these "short-cuts" may not rear their ugly head until later in time. The Z1 requires multiple wires to be connected correctly and properly...it takes just one to be "off" and your left with a mess. I would suggest that you ask for references from your installer. The hard part is once you get your vehicle back, everything might look good but you do not kn
