  1. Okay, so I've had a D3 for several years and absolutely love it but I've never used voice control in the past. I just upgraded to the iPhone 4S and with the improved voice control functions I would like to use this. Every time I try and give a voice command the phone doesn't hear anything. The microphone doesn't register any input on the phone. When I activate voice command, the phone switches the source to the Bluetooth phone source but nothing registers. Is this a hardware limitation or is there possibly something wrong with my bluetooth unit? I've had some issues with the unit in re
  2. Hopefully you set your security PIN so that no one can use the thing? I set mine when I first got it....last week I had to reset the unit and panicked because I couldn't remember it based on the security question. Thanksfully, it worked on the first try but that was a tense few seconds. LOL Hope you get it back
  3. I just bought a brand new (not refurb) 5.5 gen 80 gig iPod Video from the apple website for $219. Also, don't bother paying for expedited shipping. I received it in 3 days with the standard free shipping.
  4. Can anyone else confirm that the new iPod classic will play on the D3? I thought they would only send video out to approved devices, and the AVIC wasn't one of them. Brian
  5. Would love to see pics of the install into your 07 TACO!
  6. i get ther Error-11 message sometimes on my iPod. This happens when the cable isn't clipped in all the way (usualy because of the protective cover on my iPod). Unclip the iPod from the cable and make sure both sides of of the cable click into the bottom of your iPod. This should solve the Error-11 issue.
  7. Just bought a second iPod from the apple website today. 80gig white iPod video for $219 (from their clearance section) with free shipping should be here Friday . I plan on keeping my existing 30 gig for music (almost full though) and the second for video.
  8. The Nav Discs that come with the US D3 only cover North America.

  10. Some have asked for links to the graphics I used. You can do a search on here for backgrounds and there are hundreds. Service rep at the dealer told me these look very similar to the graphics that come with the factory nav. Here are a couple I like for my car:
  11. Tyson, you very well could have made that graphic.. I downloaded it off a posting about custom backgrounds. My compliments to whoever put it together. People get in my car and can't believe this isn't a factory stereo, the VW graphics make it blend into the red and blue factory instrumentation.
  12. For those of you who ignored the OP's original question. He asks where do you put the referal code. The referal code goes into the notes box when you process your online order. When it is processed, they will manually apply the referal code if you qualify for it.
  13. Yeah, what's kewl for me, since I live in Chicago, area 6 is on both discs. So, if one disc is damaged I can just enter the other one and I'm good to go. Still trying to figure out how to make back-ups. Just haven't had a chance to try.
  14. It's a wireless remote, just like the one for your TV.
  15. Just had a new Pioneer AVIC-D3 installed in my Black 06 Touareg. Here is the first: And the second: Pioneer AVIC-D3 with iPod Connector, Bluetooth Phone adapter, and PAC-SWIPS steering wheel control interface. All installed using the Metra dash kit. Also, had my installer do the video bypass so video and programmability is available on the fly. So far, I LOVE IT. GPS works great, navigated through Chicago the other night without a problem. As you can see I uploaded some kewl VW graphics I found on avic411.com and really looks factory fit. Bluetooth sounds great,
  16. Those of you with the RZR (Razer) that doesn't auto connect. You have to go into your phone SETTINGS --> CONNECTION -->> BLUETOOTH --> DEVICE HISTORY --> "PIONEER BT UNIT" and click EDIT and change ACCESS to AUTOMATIC. Once you have done this it will connect automaticaly. Good Luck!!
  17. I don't think VW's have illumination wires. The factory stereo dim's some other way, probably through the SWC wires. When I had mine installed the installer simply didn't connect the illum wire. I had to bring it back and get them to connect it. (Don't know how they fixed it, but it was definetly a hard wire issue.) Definetly don't want to be driving around with that BRIGHT screen in your face at night. Good Luck!
  18. I have experianced this SAME problem with this and other navigation systems. Here in Chicago for example. I can be at the lake front and it will tell me to drive 5 miles West, get on the freeway, drive 10 miles south and then drive 3 miles back east to get to my destination. When in actuality i could take Lakeshore drive all the way south and drive 1 mile west. If it wasn't for the five thouasand traffic lights, yeah the computer route would be faster; but it all has to do with shortest time vs shortest distance settings. You have to play with the multiple routes settings or avoid freeway
  19. There is actually a volume setting for guidance voice. It is in the same place where the ANNOYING beeping noise (when you hit any button or touch the screen) volume control is. If you turned down the voice controll all the way along with the beep, you wont get any sound. Try checking that.
  20. First register your phone, then attempt to transfer your phone book. You may have to do it one entry at a time.
  21. Anyone have a problem with their handset hanging on to their bluetooth after turning off their car? If I'm talking to someone and I arrive at my desitination, I turn my car off and grab the handset. Once I open it, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds for the bluetooth connection to return calls to the handset. Anyone else experience this problem? Also, how do you transfer the calls back to the handset while you are driving? Is this blocked out without the bypass?
  22. Had a similar issue when I had my D3 installed. Couldn't connect the VSS because I needed a $170 interface from Soundgate. Had passed through a couple intersections before indication came. So, I went into the GPS settings and increased the average speed settings. There are three settings, like secondary roads, primary roads and highways. This seemed to help A LOT. I assumed if you increase your average speed (and I do have a lead foot) that the computer could keep up. Used it last night in Chicago and all the turns came up before the street. I also heard that the GPS is adaptive and this c
  23. I had mine installed with the SWI-PS and SWI-CAN and that solution works great. You maintain the steering wheel controlls and the red 12V ACC wire controlls the AVIC just like the factory Stereo. Instructions are VERY easy once you read threw, just follow the instructions that came with the SWI-CAN module. The others can be kinda cofusing. Just a couple notes: SWI-CAN works great in my VW, but you should look at the Soundgate CANPULSE. This gives you steering wheel controlls AND a VSS solution all in one. Also, make sure you figure out some way to attach the illumination wire. I
  24. Country, Does the SWI-PS and SWI-CAN accomplish this or does this require a third item? If I do need it, where can I find one?
