  1. I had to do this tonight, because I had the same freezing issue with my Z2 that had increased in severity over the last couple of days (and it's not been hot at all around here, nor has it been that cold). I applied the firmware this morning, but after downloading all the files, I had the looping reset issue. I followed the instructions above (and thanks much to GnatGoSplat!), but would like to make a couple of additional notes: 3. The "password input screen" is a screen that says, "PRESS RESET OR RESTART ENGINE". At this point, enter the password in step 4, and the test mode menu will app
  2. You say that you do not have connector 2 - are you missing the RCA pigtail that plugs into the connector 2 slot? Did you originally have the unit professionally installed? If so, did they give the box back to you? Are there any spare parts in that box? Installers don't always attach all the pigtails etc if they are not actively in use. I think you'll need that connector for this to work properly; I can't see the mute wire staying in place otherwise. If you don't have the connector in the original box, or the installers didn't give anything back to you after the install, go to Pioneer's parts w
  3. He's asking for me. When CC installed my Z2, they did great work but for some reason failed to connect the VSS wire. Now, I was reading in the Pioneer manual that the VSS wire connection is optional, because you can't access it in some vehicles, so I didn't think much of it. But now I'm wondering - did they forget to hook it up, or was there no way they could?
  4. I know that not all Best Buy or Circuit City installers are the same, but I can say that the Circuit City that installed my Z2 did a good job. I mean, my Z2 looks like a factory-installed unit in my van. I need to post pics at some point. A different Circuit City installed my husband's D2 in his F150, and his install is also seamless and clean. You give too much credit to the original poster's installer when you say he should be working at Circuit City. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
  5. I just had the AVIC Z2 installed in my 04 Freestar and it looks great. Why not go that route instead? I replaced my single CD/cassette/AM-FM stereo, and it took the Circuit City guys less than the 2 hours they quoted me to install it. Furthermore, I've added the aux input cable to it since then, and it was easy to get in the dash to do that.
  6. Update: My husband bought me the CDRB10 as an early birthday gift, and I hooked it up to the IP Bus port on my SIR-PNR2. I was going to get the CDRB20, but the only reason to get that would be if I wanted to add a CD changer later on, and I really couldn't see a reason for that - if and when I buy CDs anymore, I just rip them to my computer and load them on my Zen Vision M anyway - I don't really listen to CDs in the car anymore. Anyway, all I did was plug up the CDRB10, connect my RCA to minijack cable, and that's it - the Z2 saw the Aux input and it works great, and unlike the AV input, I no
  7. I have the Z2 and the nice guys at Circuit City set it up so I can use the navi while driving (I think they did not attach the parking brake ground). Still can't watch video, but I don't want to - as I have said elsewhere, I have two small children and I'm distracted enough while driving as it is! If you use the voice commands, you can enter destinations and waypoints and all that while driving. I did that the other day and it worked out well.
  8. I was going to buy the D3, but I decided on the Z2 for a few reasons: 1) I wanted the voice recognition / voice command capability 2) I liked that the maps are stored on a hard disk, leaving the DVD-ROM always open 3) I believe the screen is slightly larger, but this is really a minor point for me - my previous GPS was an HP iPaq Pocket PC with a 240x240 screen, so just about any in-dash GPS was going to be an improvement! The voice command feature was most important because I can focus more on my driving and less on the touchscreen. Also, the nice guys at Circuit City set it up so I
  9. The guy at Circuit City hooked up an RCA to minijack cable to the audio L +R of the AV input, and it works fine for me, although I think I will look into getting the CDRB20 in the future so my screen doesn't go blank while I listen to my MP3 player.
  10. I just got my Z2 installed tonight at Circuit City and they did a nice job. Even ran an RCA-to-minijack cable for my MP3 player discreetly thru my dash (I was using a cassette adapter before!). However, my ride is a 2004 Ford Freestar van, so I wasn't too worried about them damaging anything. For the record, it took less than the 2 hours they estimated, and it is seamlessly integrated with my dash.
