  1. Wow cool this got fixed. Nice. Sorry if I didn't notice it right away but the new listing is very helpful.
  2. Cool, that is really nice to know. I can see my self breakig it too.
  3. I did find this "dashdaq" which does have some nice features but the system still seams limited. And also who wants another screen floating around the car. Being displayed on the AVIC would be nice. That G4 does also have some cool features. A definite competitor to the AVIC. The OBDII is one thing I am looking for but add on sensors is a must too.
  4. Do you have a Z2 or a N4 (or a old N2). Is that N a lazy Z.
  5. Not sure what you meant by "back view". It is MAP view, like if you were reading a map, North is up. I am not sure if there is a way to remove it.

    dumb ass ?

I feel BUMPbarded by all of this.
  7. My experience with rain-x is it works good on glass but keep it off of rubber, plastics (including clear plastics) and paint. I think the warning is because those things usually are polymers / resins (tinting and crack fillers). You probably know this, but in general rain-x helps on surfaces that get wind on them. The camera in back is probably in a wind free / low pressure area so the rain-x might not make a difference. But it is worth a shot, tell us if it does help. Good luck.

    dumb ass ?

ever wonder what goes BUMP in the night?
  9. Ya, actually I found a few yesterday but they all seemed limited. They only had a few data in ports and were limited to 5v. Is anyone else interested in a system that would record data and display it on the Nav screen? And if so would you be interested features like this: Displayed on your current Nav screen Customizable displays and gauges (Change the layout, types of gauges, colors and backgrounds) Graphs of data Large number of data ports (expandable) Wireless communication to the sensors Data ports that function on a wide range of voltages OBDII data collection and inter
  10. Because there is no ambient light sensor in the system. It goes off your headlights. So it is acting like the rest of the lighted things on the dash (stock stereo, gauges, A/C controls). Full on / bright during the day (no headlights on) and dimmed for the night (headlights on). Some dash setups also have lights off for day (usually older cars or equipment that do not use LCD displays). If you want it dim you can turn just your parking lights on, which should also dim all of the other thing on the dash. Just don't forget to turn on your lights before driving again or turn them off be
  11. Nothing ... I expected at least someone to tell me to buy a carputer, Gforce or something.
  12. Unfortunately those two things don't often go hand and hand.
  13. Man that sucks. Ya, that what I am talking about. You will need to add a way for the top of the glass to "lock" in to the frame and strengthen the sides. But this gets a little out of control as a project because you have to redesign the weather stripping and shape of the glass. Basically redesigning that whole part of the door. And don't forget if you do make it very hard to break in you also are making it very hard to get out in case of a wreck. Seconds count when the paramedics need to get to you.

    Avic Z3

These look very cool but the cost seems to be limiting factor now, ~$1,000. But this will come down in the next few years at technology does. Do you know if any one has replaced / upgraded their drive with one of these? My guess is no because of that "limiting factor" but who knows.
  15. So would you assume that these features will likely be in the Z3?
  16. Wow that is kind of amazing that Albuquerque and other parts of NM are on this so soon. Usually NM gets everything cool last, unless it is a bomb. Great now everyone will have this and when there is a wreck the side streets will be flooded with cars and more wrecks.

    IDEA!

Wow NOAH style info. That is cool and would be nice but the price is kind of high. Am I reading this correct? $100 for setup then $100 each month, then it is $7 more for radio. That is over $1200 a year for weather maps! I would think a few different packages would be a good idea. Less $ each month for less weather maps and info. http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/existing/weather/grd_subscription_pkg.pdf
  18. Does anyone know of a product that will record user defined telemetry of a vehicle and output it to a standard display? Other then gforce type things, I want a little more advanced. A device that records gauge data (boost gauge, EGT, fuel air ratio etc.) and has a standard output (hook up to video-in on navigation systems) with gauges or graphs of the data. Also the ability to download the data would be nice too. So basically a DAQ system that has a signal processor, RCA output and does not cost ~$20,000. Here is one I have found but I don't think it is cheap. http://www.a-dat.co
  19. Cool, It is nice to hear when someone or a company does a good job on things. Thanks for the positive feedback / info.
  20. Also check the voltage while the car is running. I have had problems with alternators not doing a good job charging, bad voltage regulator. The problem with checking them is it that it usually is intermittently bad.
  21. Lucky is right. At first I quickly skimmed the post , got excited , actually read the whole post , got sad... Well good for you guys, enjoy. Would that also imply that a Z3 is coming?
  22. I am an engineer who retrofits and designs buildings to withstand blast (explosive) pressures with stuff kind of like this. Tinting and polymer composite windows can be very strong (the video looks kind of suspiciously strong for "normal window" with thin film added, my guess it is a composite factory fab window). You can replace your glass with "bullet proof glass" poly or composite but you have the problems listed. You also can add poly film like tint. This will shatter but the poly will hold its shape. The one of the most important thing with making windows stronger is the frame!!
  23. Ok great, we got 49 votes. The majority are either Very Satisfied or Satisfied with the AVIC-Z2. Now many have also voted for "Not Satisfied with AVIC-Z2: Hardware problems†and I assume this were mostly from the freezing on startup issues. It looks like these issues have been solved with the patch. I have talked to the admins and if you wish to change your vote from Not Satisfied: Hardware problems to something else please PM me or post with what to change it to.
  24. When my wife and I got our 06 Subaru legacy we sprung for the factory Navigation system. We were told that we would get updated maps for the next few years for free. Basically Subaru was going to pay Kenwood for the maps. I figured this was an incentive to help sell the units (we were the fist people to buy a factory navigation system from that dealer). Many car companies are doing things like this. Like Acura paying for a few years of xm radio and xm traffic when you get the high end system. Usually when you get a navigation system you are also getting the high model. So the car compan
