car speed signal input

Hey, just got a D3...

A little confused about how to hook up the car speed signal input. Pink wire.

Do I need this seeing as I've already done the bypass?

 

Where on the ECU would I tap in? its vague.. just says connect it to the injection computer.

on the d3 you do not absolutely have to hook the vss up, it will work without it. but if you want to... you'll have to tell us what car you have

If you dont hook the vss up, does it disable some of the internal features of the d3? (doesnt the headunit have gyros and some nifty on screen displays that tell you how much of a maniac you are while driving?)

 

knowing its optional means its most likely not getting attached either way i guess..thanks for the response

Attaching the VSS wire basically raises the accuracy of the GPS system. But on the D3, it is pretty damn accurate without it.

Another vote here for NOT hooking up the VSS. My '05 Xterra had more problems with the VSS than without. Been running perfect now for 6 mos w/o the VSS.

If you ALWAYS have clear sight of at least 3 GPS satellites, then the VSS won't gain you much. However if you drive around tall buildings, in the forest, in a mountainous area, tunnels, etc. and still want to show a good approximate location then you should hook up the VSS & reverse gear signals.

 

However... when using the VSS & reverse signals you have to keep this in mind - the more you drive without an adequate GPS signal, the more mis-calibrated the D3 will get. And unfortunately when it's really mis-calibrated it will show the wrong location even when a good GPS signal is there. You'd expect the GPS location to override the D3's guess based on sensors but that is not the case. This can be demonstrated. Personally I still use the VSS, etc. though because it's makes it very accurate - even off roads.

if the speed sensor is showing info does that mean the VSS is hooked up? i think mine isnt for the reason that my navigation is constantly a car or 2 car lenghts behind when coming to intersections or while making turns

There are several screens which show the VSS status. Hardware info is one.

what are the other screens that tell you the info on whether the VSS wires are hooked up corectly

I'm not in my car at the moment and I can't think offhand where else it might be, so perhaps hardware info is the only screen.

 

Do you need more than one screen to verify?

i'm curious because it seems to be hooked up, but i'm constantly a car lenght or 2 behind on my map during navigation. I will come up to an intersection and my navigation still says i'm not there yet.

Is the VSS wire on the D3 an analog or digital input? (my '08Audi A4 has an analog output from the vehicle, I believe) Also, is the reverse signal just +12v or nothing - i.e. on or off? Same question for illumination. Reason I'm asking is because I don't want to have to buy another CAN BUS adapter just for these wires (which I do want to hook up).
