clonedkorl
one more question... are there any more updates that I can apply to make my unit the latest and greatest? Gracenotes update: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... ase+Update I read through what it said on the pioneer site and it seems like this is a pretty worthless update... how can it help me? BTW..... I just wanted to let everyone know that my total cost to upgrade my stock drive was only $5 + the cost of the drive adapter.
garrettoomey
You only need the Gracenotes update if you are adding new store bought cds.

Get-R-Done
Hello, I was reading thru the forum and noticed that there is not need for drive unlocking if the drive is new. Reading this forum is states to disable security with MHDD. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=728, Then you need to unlock the drive. But in this posting it says you don't need to if the drive is new. What I did thus far is you the MHDD tool and disabled the security feature, then I used Acronis true image to place the Z3 image on the drive. Is there anything else i need to do before place back into my vehicle? Can some pls clarify this for me? Thanks, G

Thanks, Why is that other drives are not working or rebooting when most of the specs are the same. Did anyone get to the root cause of why they reboot on certain drives? Which are the recommended drives? Thanks, G
Escalade26s
Has anyone done a z2 to z3 upgrade using a laptop with Vista and been successful? How???
garrettoomey
You can not use a laptop to turn security off. If you have a drive that is unlocked, AND security has been disabled, then you can use a Vista laptop with USB to 2.5" drive adapter. You will just use Acronis like normal. Escalade26s
Worst case though, I could pay $5 and wipe the drive again, correct? Are you saying that I can't unlock the drive with the laptop?
garrettoomey
You can unlock the drive with the laptop, but you can not turn security off. Worst case is that you would need to pay $5 to unlock the drive again, but you WILL lose any music and address book entries. The benefit of unlocking the drive and turning security off is that you can save your personal data for the next round of upgrades. The other advantage is that you can install your music, then make a backup image of the fully loaded hard drive...
