thextreme1
Looking through all of the .ini files and such, I found a litle gem that is called preload.ini that I believe tells the system what to load at startup. The problem happens to be, that 90% of the maps and such that are preloading... are from Europe. It looks like this: [1] key="SYS" name="System data" file1="data.zip" file2="content/map/basemap.fbl" file3="klavika_medium.ttf" [2] key="DEW" name="West EU elevation data" file1="content/dem/weu.dem" [3] key="DEE" name="East EU elevation data" file1="content/dem/eeu.dem" [4] key="FR1" name="France Map data" file1="content/map/france.fbl" file2="content/voice/v_fra_f4.zip" file3="content/voice/v_fra_m3.zip" [5] key="FR2" name="France 3D and POI data" file1="content/building/fra_lyon.phr" file2="content/building/fra_marseille.phr" file3="content/building/fra_paris.phr" file4="content/poi/eu_west1.poi" [6] key="DE1" name="Germany Map data" file1="content/map/germany.fbl" file2="content/voice/v_deu_f4.zip" file3="content/voice/v_deu_m4.zip" [7] key="DE2" name="Germany 3D and POI data" file1="content/building/deu_berlin.phr" file2="content/building/deu_hamburg.phr" file3="content/building/deu_munich.phr" file4="content/building/deu_stuttgart.phr" file5="content/poi/eu_west2.poi" [8] key="IB1" name="Iberia Map data" file1="content/map/spain.fbl" file2="content/map/portugalia.fbl" file3="content/voice/v_esp_f3.zip" file4="content/voice/v_esp_m2.zip" file5="content/voice/v_por_f4.zip" file6="content/voice/v_por_m4.zip" [9] key="IB2" name="Iberia 3D and POI data" file1="content/building/esp_barcelona.phr" file2="content/building/esp_madrid.phr" file3="content/building/esp_sevilla.phr" file4="content/building/prt_lisbon.phr" file5="content/poi/eu_west1.poi" [10] key="BN1" name="BeNeLux Map data" file1="content/map/belgium.fbl" file2="content/map/netherlands.fbl" file3="content/map/luxembourg.fbl" file4="content/voice/v_dan_f1.zip" file5="content/voice/v_dan_m1.zip" file6="content/voice/v_dut_m3.zip" file7="content/voice/v_dut_f31.zip" file8="content/voice/v_fle_f2.zip" file9="content/voice/v_fle_f3.zip" [11] key="BN2" name="BeNeLux 3D and POI data" file1="content/building/bel_brussels.phr" file2="content/poi/eu_west1.poi" [12] key="HU1" name="Hungary Map data" file1="content/map/hungary.fbl" file2="content/poi/eu_east_ta.poi" file3="content/voice/v_hun_f1.zip" file4="content/voice/v_hun_m1.zip" [13] key="UK1" name="UK Map data" file1="content/map/ireland.fbl" file2="content/map/unitedkingdom7ppc.fbl" file3="content/voice/v_eng_uk_f1.zip" file4="content/voice/v_eng_uk_m1.zip" file5="content/voice/v_eng_us_m1.zip" [14] key="UK2" name="UK 3D and POI data" file1="content/building/gnome/gbr_london.phr" file2="content/building/gnome/gbr_birmingham.phr" file3="content/building/gnome/irl_dublin.phr" file4="content/poi/eu_west1.poi" I simply deleted everything except data.zip and saved. When I loaded up the system and it was ready to go, I noticed that everything is more zippy! Map drawing, button pushes, etc... all seem damn near instant. If I am correct about this file, I am eliminating at the bare minimum, 13 files that are loaded when the system is turned on and kept in memory the whole time the system is functioning. Which is pointless, if you dont live in these regions that are loaded. I even see a bunch of POI's and even voice files above. When I was finished, the .ini looked like this: [1] key="SYS" name="System data" file1="data.zip" file2="content/map/basemap.fbl" file3="klavika_medium.ttf" Hope this helps out. keeper22
well this would be excellent, I will try it in a bit. Where is the file located? *** nevermind , found it in the config folder Thanks
BorisM
I don't think there is klavika font on AVIC, so this can also be removed, probably...

thextreme1
wow I think that made a big difference, and everything seems to ru fine...BIG THUMBS UP Good to hear I am not seeing things. Not sure why Pioneer would load foreign regions by default for American units. It seems a huge waste of resources, especially since the unit takes a decent amount of time to start up already. Regardless, I am glad it worked. Now if I could only get into the media player and allow for ID tags and album covers for wav files, I would be set.
MercuyMan
Don't know what to do eat or do this!!!! Great Find! edited] My boot-up time was close to the same, (I don't us a Ipod) but when fully loaded I notice a huge increase of sensitivity. Barely had to touch anything to select what I wanted. Map regen increased wow. I'm glad to have stuck with the Avic and found this site. Thanx Extreme!
BorisM
Tried it for fun and did not see any difference. And sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but this won't make any appreciable difference for the simple reason that US units don't haveany of European data files so absolutely nothing extra is loading. capitalsfn
i tried and also didn't see a difference. maybe i'll see some when i play with it a bit more, but i'm not holding my breath.
johnnykim
i just did this...the boot time was in the low 20 seconds, cd started around 13seconds. (this is jus rough numbers). borism-yes, there are no euro maps, but just like windows...it might take the extra time to search and try to load the euro maps. just a thought. overall, i did notice the response is alot sharper(quick). ill play a little bit more. BorisM
Well, it might speed up loading time by some fraction of a second it spends looking for a file and not finding it (assuming it does not know what region it is coded for to begin with), but how would it affect response time later on? Same amount of data is loaded (or not loaded) either way...
peterparker
either way, you'd expect a company like pioneer to spend an extra 20 seconds and tidy up their code for region specific hardware.. lazy coders.. sheesh =)
brettwelty
Hi guys, can someone help me out here. I dont understand where you are finding these files. are they on your computer? and if so, where? SD Card? Im stuck. Thanks
kerosene
Well, it might speed up loading time by some fraction of a second it spends looking for a file and not finding it (assuming it does not know what region it is coded for to begin with), but how would it affect response time later on? Same amount of data is loaded (or not loaded) either way... agreed, it will only take a fraction of a second off... these scripts run faster then you can blink your eyes... if it fails to find script when loading it skips... it wont hold up the system
keeper22
must be wishful thinking then...
