DMB#41
My AVIC-Z1 has issues every time I take an exit off the freeway. It thinks I'm still on the freeway for about 15-30 seconds then bumps me over to the exit. My buddy's GPS is a cheap and old eclipse that doesn't have the same problem. I almost always have at least 2 bars and 8 sats. My GPS antenna is mounted on my dash under the windshield. VSS is hooked up properly. Any ideas why this is happening? thanks, Matt
aznsmartass24
is it because the exit is running parallel to the exit?
DMB#41
Yea the exit is parallel to the freeway usually. Is this normal for the Z1? I can be 100 ft. away from the freeway on an exit and it will show me on the freeway still. isn't the GPS more accurate than that?
aznsmartass24
Happens to me all the time if the exit is running exactly parallel. I thought the z1 would be more accurate too, but I guess not. Does any one else have this problem? It doesnt bother me too much though.
djmixmac
My signal improved greatly after Hooking up the VSS wire + putting the Metallic magnetic plate that came with our units under the gps antannae.
whtcrxghst
I second the motion. Really makes a difference My signal improved greatly after Hooking up the VSS wire + putting the Metallic magnetic plate that came with our units under the gps antannae. ducatiboy
Yah after doing what they said, the only time mine does that is if I have a route planned and it's to stay on the highway, and then I decide to get off the highway for some reason. If it thought I was supposed to be on the highway, and it's parallel it will think you are still on it for a couple seconds till you jump to where you really are. If there is no route planned, then it's pretty accurate. Is this a "new" or "fresh" unit? With the VSS not hooked up? If so then the internal gyros haven't started feeding the nav system with info about when you turn left and right. That might just need to calibrate into 3d hybrid mode to give you the more accuracy. DMB#41
Thanks Ducatiboy, I think your right now that you say that. I was driving for some time with no VSS (couldnt find the bastard). VSS has only been hooked up for 2 days. Thanks, Matt
DMB#41
Even after re-calibrating the gyros with VSS hooked up properly i'm still having these issues. Any help?? thanks, Matt
action
How's your antenna hooked up? does it have a clear line of sight. Check it's signal stregth. With GPS, the more antennas that the receiver can "hear", the more accurately it can calculate your location.
DMB#41
I usually have all 8 sats and 3 green bars. My antenna is mounted on the dash and on the magnetic plate.
