INSTALL / BLUETOOTH CD/ 2 WIRE BYPASS SOLVED!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Everyone,

I posted this once and got no help.

1. The pictures that Ducatiboy posted to do the two wire bypass for Z1 dont help me. I dont think I have the 2 wire bypass done last friday by my installer correctly.

2. I cant get my Z1 to recognize the Bluetooth update CD. I've tried burning it with Windows, Nero 7 and I cant get the Z1 to see the update cd as anything miore than Cd -rom loaded.

3. I go to Settings- Hardware- Connections - I get no speed pulse signal and i move the parking brake up and down and nothing happens.

Does anyone have any additional photos of how to do the bypass?

Does anyone have any better free cd burning instrcutions to do the bBluetooth update?

Does anyone have any detailed instructions on how to install the Nav Traffic tuner. I have the service enabled, but I get no traffic updates when I input a Nav direvtions to a destination?

If no one wants to help me can they send me to a good installer in Los Angeles who knows what the heck they are doing?

As far as I know I only have one picture, and it was the most simple way I could explain it.

I don't think I can make it any more simple than that, I have updated the instructions a few months ago, if you looked before that maybe it's more descriptive for you.

I think hyperlite is right, cd rom loaded is what you get on the AV screen, you need to hit MAP and it will start the update.

3. I go to Settings- Hardware- Connections - I get no speed pulse signal and i move the parking brake up and down and nothing happens.

The speed pulse is due to a mistake when installing, either they forgot to hook up the speed pulse sense wire or they hooked it up wrong.

If you are planing on doing the 2 wire bypass, the parking brake line should say "ON" and it should not change when you move the parking brake up and down. If it always says ON you at least have 1/2 of the 2 wire bypass correct. If it always says OFF who ever did this is really missing the instructions on doing the bypass.

Does anyone have any additional photos of how to do the bypass?

I haven't seen any. What more do you want? Different angles?

Does anyone have any better free cd burning instrcutions to do the bBluetooth update?

Tons of people have used this:

http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#bluetooth

Try the MAP thing, that might be your problem.

Can't help you with those though.

DB,

Thank you. My parking brake stays on all of the time no matter what I do. What I do get is the parking break warning.

I had the install done friday night and when I did the 3 flashes of lights I could get the nav functions to work, but when I started playing the Dvd player it came with you are not allowed to watch the Dvd player while moving and then it would cut out.

What color is the speed sensor wire coming out of the AVIc-z1.

My Z1 is a refurbished unit does that matter?

DB,

One more thing, when you you say on your site to ground this pin (Connector 2) do you mean I take a wire out of the big whte plastic plug, and stick the yellow wire into that actual pin the bottom far right pin? then take that yellow wire and splice it into a black ground wire somewhere else on the vehicle?

If my parking break is always staying on in the hardware settings no matter what how many times I lift it up and down, what else should I do to check my connections?

I use NERO and I have the AvicBlueTooth Iso sitting on my desktop. It is one of two states 1. in a folder that needs to be unzipped. Should I unzip it and then drag and drop it into a the E Drive where I have a CD RW disk waiting for it?

Or should I leave it unzipped and drag and drop that into the Drive E with a CD RW disk waiting?

Can you give me the exact steps to burn it using Nero 7? I've tried buring it many different ways and I cant get my Avic z1 to update. I push on the map button, I'm already displayi9ng the map screen when I load it, I ve tried getting it to update from every imaginable screen and no matter how I do it iot wont read the bluetooth update cd. It's not difficult. If your looking at the unit from the back. It is the white connector furthest to the right. inside the connector there are 4 open slots.(the last 2 rows on the right of the connector) use the bottom right and ground it out with the parking brake. flip your switch and it's done.

Thats good, if you want to get rid of the warning now you have to hit the recessed (reset) button to the right of the eject button. But until you fix the second wire it will come right back when you start driving.

I had the install done friday night and when I did the 3 flashes of lights I could get the nav functions to work, but when I started playing the Dvd player it came with you are not allowed to watch the Dvd player while moving and then it would cut out.

This is because when you parking brake is grounded it interferes with the flashing of the lights, and no matter what you can't watch DVD's while moving. You would have to unground the parking brake and reset the unit (as above) before the flashing would work again.

What color is the speed sensor wire coming out of the AVIc-z1.

I don't remember it's in the manual. Pink seems to stick in my mind, but I don't remember, look in the installation manual. Look for VSS.

Or download the manuals here

http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=351

And look them up. I don't have them convenient.

My Z1 is a refurbished unit does that matter?

Shouldn't. Only thing might be the update might already have been installed depending on how it was refurbed. But if flashing the lights worked before, it was not updated.

Unfortunately I don't know how to say it any better than I say it on my site.

Look on the back of the Z1, there are 3 main connectors.

As you are looking at it from the rear, the connector on the bottom right (closest to the FM antenna plug) is labeled on the back of the Z1 as "connector 2".

The 4 right most locations in that connector DO NOT have wires in them.

You need to add a wire to this position and ground it as well.

Personally I took the "cell phone mute" wire out of "connector 1" by taking a jewlers screw driver and lift up on the white plastic connector part just behind the "metal tang" in the connector. Some times with these connectors, you push on the metal tang to get the wire out, with these connectors, lift up on the plastic tang retainer, don't push down on the tang. It's much easier. I then inserted the cell phone mute wire into this position and grounded it.

You need to take a wire out of one of the identical white plastic connectors which you are not using and relocate it to the location I indicate. You want to extract the wire and the metal terminal crimped on the end of it. Both of those have to be relocated to the new location in connector 2. Then when it's inserted into that location and the snap is heard, ground that wire.

If my parking break is always staying on in the hardware settings no matter what how many times I lift it up and down, what else should I do to check my connections?

The "second wire".

I use NERO and I have the AvicBlueTooth Iso sitting on my desktop. It is one of two states 1. in a folder that needs to be unzipped. Should I unzip it and then drag and drop it into a the E Drive where I have a CD RW disk waiting for it?

If you downloaded this zip file

http://www.sminntech.com/AvicBluetoothFix.zip

Then you want to unzip that to a folder on your computer. It will give you an ISO file. That's what you want to burn.

Or should I leave it unzipped and drag and drop that into the Drive E with a CD RW disk waiting?

In windows no, actually in nero no as well.

Unzip the ZIP file to put the ISO file on your machine somewhere in a directory.

Open nero burning rom, not the smart start or anything like that. Open Nero Burning Rom.

If you get a smaller "new compilation" wizard hit cancel so you have a large blank gray screen.

Click on RECORDER and then on BURN IMAGE.

Browse to that image and let-er-rip.

When it's done if you want to make sure it worked, stick it back into a cd drive and look at the drive. Does it have multiple sub directories and tons of files (100's or so)? Good. Just to make sure everything is well, highlight one of those files and then hit CTRL-A to select them all. Then right click and hit copy. Then go to your hard drive and make a new directory somewhere and right click in there and hit paste. Make sure the pc copies all the files from the CD to the folder. If so you can delete that folder, it was just to check that all the files can be read off that disk. If it fails for a read error, you need to burn it slower or something, better for your PC to get a read error when just copying the files to a folder for a test than your Z1 to get stuck in a read error which won't let you use it until you get a good disk. If all files copy over and no read errors, it's good to go.

Then insert into the Z1 and it should update.

DB,

Thank you for your help and patience. Ive got some updates to my system.

1. I got the correct speed sensor wire installed. I now get the speed sense update showing signal strength. (I did it myself.) If I didnt have the Speed sensor connected would the 2 wire bypass error out with parking brake Malfunction?

2. My installer did do the two wire bypass. He grounded the light green parking brake wire and the connector 2 wire to black ground wires. He used the plastic crimps to connect the green park brake and connector two wire to a couple of black ground wires. I dont have a soldering tool. Should I take it back to my installer to have them soldered just in case? Should I only have the parking brake and 2 connector wire grounded to ONE black ground wire? Instead of a couple?

3. When I drive now I can use all nav functions.

4. I havent tested when I play a DVD if it will error out and give me the parking break malfunction. I will go out and drive it now...

5. I GOT the Bluetooth update CD to load on my AVic-Z1 IT Says that its ALREADY UPDATED!!!! Another major thing done.

6. I have refurbished December/2006 unit.

7. I called XM yesterday and activated my Nav traffic and Xm subscription, so I have Xm all channels, but I still cant get any of the Navtraffic functions to work. I even reset the Gex pt10 unit too. Does this sound like an XM system problem? I should proably call them in the AM...

Thank You Ducati Boy for your help. Any more words of wisdom would be appreciated.

It didnt work...I'm really bummed.

1. I get the parking brake malfunction when I play dvds.

2. I dont get the parking brake malfunction when I use Nav only functions.

3. The Bluetooth update is currently loaded on my 12/06 refurbished unit.

4. I will take pictures of the 2 wire bypass tomorrow so that I can post them on here and get ideas as to why I cant play DVD's while driving...

5. It may be that the bypass wires are loose?

6. I have too many black ground wires connected? ( I think I have three Black wires connected to the 2 connector and the light green parking brake wire.)

7. I have access to XM but Nav traffic functions are disabled so I have to assume my Gex PT10 reciever works and theres a problem on XM's side?

Anybodys thoughts and input would be appreciated...DucatiBoy thank you for everything so far.

Thank you for your help and patience. Ive got some updates to my system.

No they really don't have much in common. But if the speed sense wire was hooked up and the bypass was not done (or was done half assed) it would error out every time more reliably. It would lock you back out more regularly with the speed sense hooked up. When it's not hooked up it would rely on gps and internal gyros to sense motion.

Soldering is ALWAYS best. You are going to get a better connection with solder, but crimps are ok too, if they are done right. 2 wires Vs. 1 wire? No... Almost every metal part in your engine compartment and body are all ground. It doesn't matter how many wires are connected or exactly where they are grounded as long as it's a good ground.

3. When I drive now I can use all nav functions.

4. I havent tested when I play a DVD if it will error out and give me the parking break malfunction. I will go out and drive it now...

I'll answer below...

5. I GOT the Bluetooth update CD to load on my AVic-Z1 IT Says that its ALREADY UPDATED!!!! Another major thing done.

6. I have refurbished December/2006 unit.

Actually october 06 units came with that update new from the factory. You only need the update for September or earlier units. And units built between July and Sept, had the bypass, you would only need that disk for the bluetooth update.

7. I called XM yesterday and activated my Nav traffic and Xm subscription, so I have Xm all channels, but I still cant get any of the Navtraffic functions to work. I even reset the Gex pt10 unit too. Does this sound like an XM system problem? I should proably call them in the AM...

Can't help with xm stuff.

Thank You Ducati Boy for your help. Any more words of wisdom would be appreciated.

You are welcome.

It didnt work...I'm really bummed.

1. I get the parking brake malfunction when I play dvds.

2. I dont get the parking brake malfunction when I use Nav only functions.

What about using Address or POI search while moving? Please have a passenger do this. Most nav functions are there anyway while moving, but you shouldn't be able to get into your address book or poi search without a working bypass.

Maybe you need a reset, hit the recessed button next to eject. Try this again, if the DVD stops when you start moving you have a wiring problem.

3. The Bluetooth update is currently loaded on my 12/06 refurbished unit.

As it should be. The world makes sense.....

4. I will take pictures of the 2 wire bypass tomorrow so that I can post them on here and get ideas as to why I cant play DVD's while driving...

Might help... might not.

5. It may be that the bypass wires are loose?

Specifically the second wire in connector 2. People who have problems always have problems with that wire. I don't know why, maybe it's the relocation and insertion of the terminal into the connector.

If everything works while stopped and when you start moving it gets locked out, that's the wire in connector 2.

If you are still locked out while stopped AND moving then it's the parking brake wire.

6. I have too many black ground wires connected? ( I think I have three Black wires connected to the 2 connector and the light green parking brake wire.)

Too many? No. You can have 500 ground wires all tied together if you want to. Electrically it's all the same. I have one ground wire going to my stock radio harness and every ground I have (Z1, ipod, sirius radio, parking brake, connector 2, etc...) all going to the same wire.

I would say that if you remove the connector and see the little pins on the Z1, that point has to be grounded. Somewhere between that point and the mess of wires, the connection is broken. Is it at the point where all the grounds are connected together? Maybe, my guess is not. I would say it's in the connector itself, he most likely buggered up the terminal or didn't insert it right. Just my guess. I would have him focus on the connector, not the mess of grounds.

7. I have access to XM but Nav traffic functions are disabled so I have to assume my Gex PT10 reciever works and theres a problem on XM's side?

I'm not much help with XM, you might want to post this in the XM section.

Anybodys thoughts and input would be appreciated...DucatiBoy thank you for everything so far.

I think I realize now why so many of you get frustrated....

I had to go out there in the hot Los Angeles Sun and sweat all over my Xterra and fix THE STUPID 2 Connector wire that was loose! Thats all it was was that wire was loose. It is intimidating not really knowing how to work on car stereos, but after all of the patience that Ducatiboy showed me, I can only say thank you Ducatiboy.

Now is there a way to update my system with the new CDNV update disc to make my Z1 act like a Z2? Will that update disc work? If so I will spend the $250.00 and buy it. I will give the serial number and pass code to Hyperite so that he can generate a keygen unlocking code for everyone.

Mark

PS XM reset my system and the Nav traffic functions work now too!
