Here is the nag screen hack for this release (v6.0)

Apply this binary patch to /USER/PRGn*/APL/NAVI.EXE

at offset 0xBEC64

change 05 00 00 0A   to   00 00 A0 E1

*See below for the correct path to the file for your unit.

Note: do not install the upgrade with the edited file on the SD. If you do, the installation will fail. After it is successfully installed, you can use a copy of the one on the SD (in UPDATE\USER\PRG\APL) to patch, then use a separate SD with testmode.key and the patched NAVI.EXE on it to update your unit. I recommend not modifying the file on your installation SD.

This is dangerous - especially for noobies. Make a backup of any files you change - in fact making a backup of all files under \USER is a good idea.

* there are two \USER\PRG directories on your HU. The active one is indicated by the presence or absence of a file named \USER\PRG.FLG

If this file is not present, the active files are in \USER\PRG0\APL. Otherwise, the active files are in \USER\PRG1\APL

Thanks to Kellinaradway for posting the link to the files for this uppgrade (v6.0). However the included CARDINFO file will only work for Z110's, Z120's, and presumably X920's. This refers to the original hardware - not the equivalent software version currently installed on your HU.

I hope pionara will soon post the "super easy" method similar to the 2013 upgrade. He has already hinted that it will happen in some other forums.

UPDATE: Since there is a much easier hack to install the 2015 maps, I'm removing the instructions on hacking and installing using RenewallFlib.dll.    You won't need to use Testmode or do anything except to get the latest version of UPDATE in post #1.

Afterwards, if you chose, you can do the Nag Screen hack in post #2.

Did I scare off some folks with my warnings? Maybe that is a good thing, but I don't want to discourage people from learning. While the TestMode user interface is horrible, it can be a useful and powerful tool. One problem is it's use of hard-buttons such as vol - +, Home, Mode, <-Trk, Trk-> to navigate and execute the built-in TestMode commands. You have to memorize what the buttons now mean.

TestMode video
Here is an old video by JansonH (AVIC411 owner) that shows how to use TestMode to copy and paste files. His fingers sometimes move a little fast to see exactly what he is doing, but for the most part, his narration is pretty good. Beware - although he mentions Condi's Hackmode, that is something else entirely. What he shows is pure TestMode. DO NOT EVER install Condi's HackMode!!! (unless you have a backup of \USER)

To get into Testmode, just copy Testmode.key file link  (after unzipping it) into the root of your SD. Then follow the video. Among other things, he shows how to backup \USER. That is a good 1st step - especially for noobs. Its pretty harmless, gives you a backup of most system files, and teaches you how to use TestMode.

Hints:

  • the stuff we are using is "File Maintenance" at the bottom of the 1st menu page.
  • the Home button is like a cancel/return to main menu. Annoying if accidentally pressed.
  • use volume -/+ to scroll up/dn menus and lists.
  • use the Mode button to chose an item or execute an operation.
  • use < Trk > to choose an operation near the bottom of the screen ("Enter", "Select", "Copy", "Paste", "Delete", "All", "Help").
  • you must "Select" one or more files before doing a" Copy" or "Delete" operation (no undo's so be careful and have a backup).
  • to "Paste" after selecting file(s) with "Copy", just navigate to the desired directory (see below). Go into the directory, then use the Trk arrows to choose "Paste".
  • unfortunately, there is no "Rename" operation.
  • you can not create sub directories via TestMode. However you can "Copy" / "Paste" entire directory folders. I use my PC to create a "backup" folder on my TestMode SD and use that to store copies of files I want to save while in TestMode.

Example- how to copy a file to the SD:

  • Navigate to the source file directory by scrolling to the directory name and pressing Mode.
  • Choose file(s) using - / +, to highlight. Choose "Select" - then press Mode
  • When all the desired files are selected (marked with '+') then highlight "Copy" and press Mode
  • Use the < or > key to go back to the "Enter" operation
  • Navigate to the root file system by going up the directory tree (highlight  ".." and press Mode).
  • Scroll down to the SD device and press Mode to enter into its root directory.
  • Use > to chose  "Paste" and press Mode to execute the command.
  • In order to overwrite a file, you must "Delete" the old one first. Otherwise it silently ignores the "Paste"operation. (this is why some people say a hack doesn't work - it was never installed).

Totally confused?? Play with it for a while. It just takes some practise.  I can't emphasize enough - always make a backup of \USER before doing any hacking. Don't end up here begging someone to post their's.

By using the VERINFO.DAT that you patched, we don't have to mess with the RenewalFlib.dll file mentioned in post #3 above?

I have made this easier for those with the earlier models.  Verified to work on the Z120 and should work on the Z110 and X920 as is.  I have used the Patched VERINFO.DAT and confirms it works on the Z120.  Simply download the 3 files and unzip them and put them on the root of a SD card.  Insert the card in the radio and push Yes to update.  The radio takes over at that point.  If anyone needs detailed instructions then PM me and I can email you a document that should help.  If this helps and your in the position to donate, all are welcome.

Paypal Kellinaradway@yahoo.com  Anything you can donate helps offset the cost.

Thanks Kellina

Thanks for your help on this.  Unfortunately I have the Avic 140BT unit.  It looks like I will need the CARDINFO file.  Any idea how to get this file to get it working?  Thank you.

I imagine for the 140BT, I can use the CARDINFO file from this thread (2013 map), it would work or does CARDINFO changes with each version?

Great. I suspected that but I had already installed my 2015 upgrade, so I couldn't test it. I didn't want to ask someone to be the guinea pig.

A few years ago someone (probably you) posted info on the contents of CARDINFO.  Is it easy to modify to support Z130/Z140? Or will the ones from their last update work here?

Since we now have the easy way to install  I deleted my RenewallFlib.dll  hack instructions in post #3. It will be less confusing going forward. I don't think anyone used it anyway.
