Ruh,roh....see those two orange "wires"? Those aren't wires, they are fiber optic cables that carry data to your cd changer, steering wheel controls, and the amp. You're screwed.....
Posted Dec 03, 2006 · 01:21 UTC#55
hehe jimmy actually i have everything installed and everything works great except for the VSS wire now.. thats all I need... The fiber optic cable goes to the speakers amps in the trunk.. from this location WIRES WIRES WIRES run to the speakers... all u have to do is clip those wires and run them to your headunit.. works great!!!

I'm sooooo sick of people thinking a mercedes is impossible to install a head unit on when its actually pretty simple, especially using factory speakers... where there is will there is always a way!

All i need is the VSS wire and we will be set folks please please please help me find it, although the GPS is working good without it...

Make sure you use some kind of crossovers on the midrange and tweeters, if there isn't one there, I can't remember from my CLK from a while back. The VSS that keeps coming up in all my databases is a green with a black stripe @ the radio harness, but try checking at the amp, also.
Posted Dec 03, 2006 · 04:27 UTC#57
jimmy is that for a CLK? I think the wiring on our cars is completely different you know how mercedes is... i will try checking at the amp.. any idea what the AUT wire is at the amp???

also any idea where to find the power booster for the antenna... not sure if need to connect it or not.
Posted Dec 03, 2006 · 05:02 UTC#58
I was told no need for a crossover? is there a reason why I need a cross over? the wires are directly wired to the amp and then fed fiber optically through the head unit so maybe the crossover is an inline one?
Posted Dec 03, 2006 · 05:19 UTC#59
The cross overs are built into the outputs of the factory amp. Eventually without outboard crossovers your speakers are going to go because they're being fed signals they can't properly handle. Ie highs going to a midbass driver or lows going to a tweeter.
Posted Dec 03, 2006 · 05:22 UTC#60
cntryluvr should I run a cross over then? do you run those inline with the speaker wire... grr how does this crossover thing work folks... please help me.. also location of the green black wire would be great

what crossover should i buy with my setup? do you have aim or something countrylvr so i could ask you a few of these questions quickly?

I called up a good soure and found out no cross over is needed. The tweeters are run in parellel with the speakers from factory. So when I get the wires in the back trunk there is just the power and ground wire for the from left speaker. When tweeter and speaker are run in parallel there is already a bass blocker that was attached to the tweeter in order to prevent this from occuring. Therefore there is no need for a crossover cause the bass blocker is protecting the tweeters. =) tis true?

In this thread:

dwhitley0381 suggests that there's a way to direct wire the existing steering wheel controls to the Z1 in a Ford F-150.

Here's my question: Do you know if and how can this be done in an F-350? I was going to try a Peripherals PEZWIX interface to do the job, but if it can be done directly then I might as well give it a shot. He intimated that Pioneer made the nav unit for the F-150 (NOT offered in the Super Duties - heaven only knows why not) and that that made the job doable.

So, if you can help, please let me know - specifics are always nice.
Thanks in advance.

The only way to directly wire the steering wheel controls would be to use an interface. I beleive the pac swi-ps will work for your application.

Thanks for that. I'll look into it and swap it for my PESWIX.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be to install the AVIC-Z1 into a 06 civic. I read that the VSS wire is on the harness due to the fact that the stock radio has a speed sensitive volume control. But when I went to a local installer, I was told that ther speed wire is hard to locate so the installation would be more than normal. If that wire is on the harness, could someone please verify that. That way I can do the install myself and save some cash!!
Thank

I have been trolling around on here for some time now mostly getting info so i could install the Z1 in my 04 Avalanche, and have everything hooked up but the reverse sensor.
I know that i can just tap into the reverse lights, but was looking for some connection in the cab.

2004 Chevy Avalanche

Reverse Light lt. green + BCM, black plug, pin F
Notes: The BCM (Body Control Module) is under the driver side dash. It has 6 plugs in it, the purple plug is on the back.

Ok so what about the VSS and reverse sensor on a 2001 Chevy Silverado? And how do most people run their gps antenna in a crew cab Silverado? I was thinking up the front pillar and through the headliner and out the 3rd brake light. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

2001 Silverado

Speed Sense dk. green/white ECM
Notes: ECM is located near the battery, down low, between the fender and the fan under the black plastic cover. On the 4.3L, the VSS wire is at pin 3 in the connector labeled black. On the 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L, the VSS wire is located in pin 50 of the red connector.

You also may be able to get it at the radio harness, same color. The reverse wire is light green in the drivers kick if I remember correctly.

First of all, thank you for doing this service to the community.

I installed the Z1 on my 1997 Infiniti Q45, but have not hooked up to the speed sensor. Also, I don't have a backup camera yet, but would like to hook that as well.

Can you please help me point to the sensor wire for tapping the speed pulse? I heard somewhere that the speed sensor cannot be retrieved from the ECU.

Appreciate your help. Thanks a lot!

1997 Infiniti q45

I'm getting either yellow/green or white/yellow at the ecu for vss. Nothing is listing the reverse wire color though. Sorry, maybe jimmy303 might know.
