  1. Another possible explanation: I have seen (or, rather, heard) this happen on an embedded device which used a switching mode power converter to supply power to a daughterboard assembly. If we powered up the device without that daughterboard plugged in, the power supply would make that high-pitched whine because the power load was too low. Luckily (for me) my 8000NEX does not suffer from this issue.
  2. Anyone know if this update addresses any bugs in the AppRadio mode on the 8000NEX? Given that there are several known problems, I'm hesitant to just give this new version a try knowing there's no way to revert to the current version.
  3. Why would Pioneer (or Apple) delay until iOS 8 is released when Carplay on the NEX may not even support iOS 8? Based on my experience with AppRadio mode on the NEX, my bet is that Pioneer's Carplay implementation is being delayed due to showstopper bugs.
  4. The exact same thing happened to me yesterday on my 8000 NEX. Like the other poster, the problem went away after turning the car off and back on. Unnerving, to say the least.
  5. And therein lies the rub. Pioneer's track record with adding support for new phones to the AppRadio has been piss-poor. Example: the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was released last September and has sold upwards of 15 million units. To put that into perspective, that's almost half as many sales as all models of iPhone combined, and yet this phone, the Galaxy S5, and other popular phones running the latest versions of Android are still not on the "supported" list and do not work correctly with AppRadio mode on the NEX. Now maybe they have all their software developers focused on CarPlay and don
  6. That is precisely what I did on my AVIC-8000NEX. It's been a couple of weeks now and a) the bypass is still working just fine, and the nag screens I was getting when my parking brake input was tied to ground have not reappeared.
  7. Try connecting the reverse gear input wire directly to a +12V source and check the diagnostic screen - if it doesn't show "high" then I'd say the reverse gear input on your 8000NEX is blown.
  8. The AVIC-8000NEX and/or AppRadio 2.6.0 has a problem with KitKat on the Galaxy Note 3 (earlier versions of Andoid appear to work fine). Lots of complaints in the Google Play Store comments for the AppRadio app about things breaking after the KitKat update.
  9. So while I had the console apart this morning to run some other wiring I went back and corrected the parking brake wiring also (i.e. instead of simply grounding it I hooked it up to the actual parking brake lead, just as Pioneer intended). After powering the unit back up and re-applying the nanny bypass, I threw in a DVD to play while I drove over to the Post Office. I'm happy to report that the nanny bypass still works and the "your parking brake is miswired" nag screens are gone!! WooHoo!!!! Now if I could just get these AppRadio mode bugs fixed...
  10. When I installed my 8000NEX I permanantly grounded the parking brake input wire and then did the bypass. The bypass is working fine but every trip I have to click past an annoying message which says my parking brake input is not properly wired. I guess the bypass doesn't bypass the annoying nag screens. If I go back in there and wire the parking brake input properly I assume it will a) get rid of the nag screen, and have no effect on the operation of the bypass. Am I right?
  11. Yes, and it's especially annoying because it interrups whatever music is playing to scold you in a loud, stern female voice. I get enough of that crap from my wife, I don't need it from my car stereo, too.
  12. I have the same issue with my 8000NEX (iPod starts playing the first song in its database after an ignition cycle). I have an original 60GB video iPod - still woring after all these years. Like yours, this iPod will pick up right where it left off when used in a different car (with a different brand of iPod interface).
  13. Boy howdy, that's an understatement! I was actually motivated to read the owner's manual to find out how to shut that nagging bitch off.
  14. On my 8000NEX there is a diagnostic screen that shows the status of the VSS input. Assuming the 5000 also has this screen, if you're moving and you see the pulse counter increasing then your VSS wire is hooked up correctly.
  15. I don't think it's too much to ask to have Pioneer's $1400 flagship actually work the way it was designed to work. Since this model is still new I'm hopeful they will address these issues and get it all working right in time. I haven't given up hope yet.
  16. Yep, AppRadio mode has lots of bugs. But what makes you guys think that CarPlay will be any better? Most likely the same bunch of engineers who implemented AppRadio mode are going to implement the CarPlay mode, and the same QA department who approved AppRadio for release is going to work their magic on CarPlay as well.
  17. FWIW, I saw similar behavior when the NEX was attempting to draw more current than the power supply could provide to it. When the current draw steps up (e.g. when initiating some new function in the hardware like answering a call) the voltage sags and a brownout detector and/or a circuit breaker kicks in and shuts off the power. In newer cars the power to the head unit is fed through a third party wiring harness that talks to the vehicle communication bus and turns power to the aftermarket head unit on and off; it's possible that this adapter is not able to supply enough current to properl
  18. While waiting for all the parts needed for my insyall to arrive, I have been playing with my 8000NEX on the bench and aleady run into an issue: there is an apparent bug in the AppRadio mode as illustrated here. In a nutshell, most of the apps running in AppRadio mode have horrible display glitches whih make those apps unusable. The Waze app is the only exception I have found so far, as it appears to be working just as intended. I already found one other person who is experiencing this same issue on an AppRadio 2, so I'm guessing the bug is in the AppRadio app as opposed to the firmware in
  19. I successfully thwarted the will of the gods. My local shop got more units in stock and this time I was able to snag one. Didn't have the wiring harness so my install will have to wait, but at least I got the unit.
  20. My Samsung MHL adapter arrived yesterday so I just tried it out and it worked - no need for the Pioneer CD-AH200C at all. The USB port on the back of the 8000NEX even charges the phone (albeit slowly).
  21. I would imagine that buying a $1400 car stereo is not normal for anyone's spending habits.
  22. Why shouldn't it work? On my OEM car stereo I can play music while I use the nav system. On my desktop PC I can play music in the background in Winamp while I use Microsoft Word in the foreground. Nowadays computers are kinda expected to multitask.
  23. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and am planning to buy an AVIC 8000NEX. The generic instructions say I need a Pioneer CD-AH200C Android adapter as well as the Samsung MHL-to-HDMI adapter. That's a big honkin' rat's nest of wires and plugs to stuff under your dash or in your center console. Call me naive, but why do I even need the CD-AH200C? Can't I just connect a standard HDMI cable and a standard USB cable from the Samsung adapter box to the corresponding ports on the back of the 8000NEX? The only thing I can think of is the 8000NEX does not provide charging current to charge the phone v
  24. I may end up going that route, but I was hoping to buy from an authorized dealer and have a warranty on the unit.
  25. Kudos to the OP for scanning this in and making it available! As others have noted, the Owner's manual is easy to find, but this is the first Installation manual I have found.
